What if the one of the best skating events of the year isn’t about the fastest skaters at all? I sat down with Lacey and Brian to break down the second annual Nash Bash, where the real goal is simple: make every skater feel seen, connected, and like the star of the floor.Brentwood Skate Center sets the scene for a weekend that is equal parts culture, music, and community… and if you think you know what a roller event looks like, this one is built to surprise you. The crew talks about why they renamed their creators from VIPs to paparazzi, how they’re designing the event around joy instead of ego, and why the vibe matters just as much as the skating. You’ll discover:1. Why Nash Bash is deliberately built for connection, not just performance. 2. The exact session schedule for Thursday through Sunday, including early arrival details and wristband access.3. Why the floor will never feel like a racetrack all night long. 4. How the event is keeping the energy high with a mix of music, pacing, and surprises.5. What’s changing this year with raffles, group photos, merch, and vendor support.Lacey shares the bigger mission behind the event and why the people having the most fun are the ones worth filming. Brian adds the musical perspective, including how the session will move between tempos so the night feels alive from start to finish. Together, they explain why Brentwood’s culture, cleanliness, lighting, and community make it one of the most unique rinks in the country. We also get into the practical stuff that matters if you’re planning a trip: Friday through Sunday session timing, Thursday’s adult night, the host hotel situation, and why Nashville makes this more than just a skate weekend. If you want a skating experience that feels different in the best possible way, this is the one to circle on your calendar.Perfect for skaters who love event culture, road trip weekends, and the kind of roller rink experience that turns strangers into your people. Nashville is calling, and Nash Bash is the reason to answer.Lacey is one of the organizers behind Nash Bash and a driving force behind the event’s connection-first vision. Brian helps shape the music and energy of the weekend, making sure the skating never feels one-note.

Two days. One rink. Generations of skaters. And the kind of energy you cannot fake.SK8LIKE NO BRAKES was not just an event. It was history, community, style and personality colliding on the same floor. This episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast takes you straight inside the weekend with interviews, reactions and highlights recorded during and immediately after the event. You will hear from author Jack Dieteman, Morgan Weske of DanceSkate, Rob McGSkates, Lacey Skates, Juicy, Jackie Cusmano and more as we capture what was happening in real time. The music. The workshops. The history. The personalities. The conversations happening between sessions. The reactions after it was all over. This was old school and new school sharing the same floor. Different styles, different generations and different stories all connected by the same thing.Skating.Some interviews happened while the event was still moving around us. Others happened after the final song, when everyone finally had a chance to look back at what we had just experienced. This episode is SK8LIKE NO BRAKES as it happened. The people who built it. The people pushing it forward. And a weekend built around exactly what we believe in. Passion not Popularity. Community Over Style.Honor the Past. SK8 the Present. From Lacey: When Mark asked me to interview him, I told him I would…but only if he was willing to be completely vulnerable and transparent. He was almost shocked that I even asked. In his mind, he had already been incredibly vulnerable through SkateLikeYou.Just wait…because he went even deeper. We laughed. We cried. We both got emotional. Mark opened up about some really difficult parts of his life and, with very few exceptions, almost everything was on the table. We talked for 2 hours and 45 minutes and honestly could’ve kept going. His life is WILD, his stories are so inspirational and there were so many moments where I was thinking, “Wait…WHAT?!” 😂But more than anything, these stories are incredibly inspiring. The things he’s lived through, the choices he’s made, the lessons he’s learned and the way he’s kept moving forward…I truly believe there are pieces of this conversation that could change someone’s life. This isn’t just the story of SkateLikeYou. It’s the story of the life that led to it…the experiences, struggles, not-so-great choices, and moments that shaped the person behind the podcast. If you think you know Mark from watching SkateLikeYou, you may be surprised by what you hear. This one is personal, vulnerable, and DEEP. There were moments when he left me completely speechless…and that is not easy to do. 😂You’ll have to tune in for the rest. ❤️From Mark, Host of the Sk8LikeYou Podcast:I’ve spent nearly 140 episodes sitting on one side of the microphones, asking the questions and giving other people the space to tell their stories. This time, Lacey sat in my chair and I sat in the guest’s.And it was surreal. In a strange way, it felt a lot like recording the very first episode of SK8LIKEYOU. When we finished, I had that same immediate panic. Did I say too much? Did I give too much of myself? Should I have held something back? But I stayed steadfast to the same rule I’ve had from the beginning: just say it all naturally and decide later. We talked about growing up in the rink, why that place became so much more than somewhere I went skating, what happened when skating disappeared from my life and eventually finding my way back. We talked about some of the lowest points, rebuilding my life, finding my confidence again and how all of that ultimately became part of the reason SK8LIKEYOU exists. There were things I expected Lacey to ask. There were things I didn’t. And there were answers that came out differently than they probably would have if I had time to prepare. That’s exactly why I didn’t want to prepare. What hit me immediately after we stopped recording was that the anxiety I was feeling was actually proof of something that has mattered to me from the very first episode to now.I will never expect anything from a guest that I’m not willing to do myself. If I’m asking somebody to trust me enough to be vulnerable, tell the uncomfortable parts, forget the microphones are there and just have an honest conversation, then I have to be willing to sit in that chair and do exactly the same thing. So I did. For one episode, I gave up my chair. Lacey asked the questions. I just said it all.#SK8LIKEYOU #RollerSkating #RollerSkatingPodcast #SkateCulture #SkateCommunity #SkateLife #RollerSkaters #SkateFamily #SkatingStories #SkatePodcast #PodcastInterview #HostInterview #LifePodcast #SkateYourWay #PassionNotPopularity #CommunityOverStyle
Sometimes we make skate gear way more complicated than it needs to be.I sat down with Jamie Ogle from Lone Star Skate Designs to talk about the Peter Peng wheels I’ve been skating, the set he donated for the SK8LIKE NO BRAKES giveaway, and why I’ve been so impressed by what these wheels offer for the money.Jamie knows his gear. We get into the differences between the 65s and 70s, durometer, weight, grooves, hubs, different setups and why properly prepping a wheel can completely change how it feels on the floor. But the bigger conversation for me is about value. Not everybody can or wants to spend $400 or $500 on a set of wheels. That doesn’t mean you can’t have something that looks good, rolls good, grips good and gives you confidence when you step onto the floor.I’ve actually skated these wheels. I’ve put them through what I do on the floor, and I liked them enough that I’m taking one set to SK8LIKE NO BRAKES and trusting them for the entire weekend. That probably says more than any review I could give.We also talk about the special set Jamie donated for this weekend’s giveaway, why he personally works on the grooves before they go out, and what someone can expect if they decide to give Peter Peng wheels a shot. And whoever walks away with that purple and black set at SK8LIKE NO BRAKES?I want you to put them on your skates and skate them. Then come tell me what YOU think.Because at the end of the day, that’s what matters.#SK8LIKEYOU #RollerSkating #RollerSkates #SkateGear #SkateWheels #PeterPengWheels #JamieOgle #LoneStarSkateDesigns #RollerSkateWheels #SkateSetup #SkateLife #SkateCommunity #SK8LIKENOBRAKES #ShuffleSkating #RinkSkating

What does it actually take to bring a roller rink back to a community that has gone years without one? In this episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Eric Hanspard, the man behind Skate America Roller Rink and his mission to bring a new skating facility to Hammond, Indiana. Eric may be relatively new to skating, but he brings decades of business experience to a project he has now spent years trying to make a reality. We talk about financing, fundraising, working with local government, finding the right property, applying for grants and some of the resistance he has encountered along the way. But Eric’s vision goes far beyond opening another place to skate. He wants Skate America Roller Rink to become part of the community through youth programs, education, senior fitness programs, field trips, partnerships with schools and organizations, and a commitment to diversity in both music and skating styles. We also have a bigger conversation about what communities lose when roller rinks disappear. These buildings are more than skating floors. They are places where generations connect, young people find mentors, cultures interact and traditions get passed forward. Eric has heard no plenty of times. He is still going. And sometimes keeping skate culture alive starts with somebody deciding that if their community does not have a rink, they are going to try to build one. #SK8LIKEYOU #RollerSkating #RollerRink #SkateAmericaRollerRink #SkateCulture #SkateCommunity #HammondIndiana #NorthwestIndiana #IndianaSkating #SkateLife #RollerSkaters #SupportRollerSkating #SkatingCommunity #KeepRinksAlive #RollerSkatingCulture
In Episode 135 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Jack Dieteman, author of the new book As the Wheels Turn: Skating, Dating, and Long Distance Love. What started with two shoeboxes full of decades old letters eventually became a deeply personal coming of age story built around roller skating, first love, long distance relationships, music, and growing up in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Jack takes me through how those letters helped him reconstruct a period of his life that never really left him, and how sharing a few stories with a small Facebook group unexpectedly put him on the path toward becoming a published author. We go back to Jack's first time on skates in Minnesota in 1979, when he could barely make his way around the rink, and then to the opening of a brand new rink near his New Jersey home just months later. That rink quickly became his world. We talk about the hundreds of teenagers who packed the building, becoming a rink rat, finding confidence, standing out in a crowd, dating at the rink, and how that environment helped shape the person he was becoming. But this conversation goes much deeper than remembering the good old days. Jack and I talk about the difference between nostalgia and actually examining who you were at a particular moment in your life. We get into memory, perception, the internal dialogue we carry with us, and why some experiences from our teenage years remain incredibly vivid decades later. Jack calls the letters he saved not simply nostalgia, but "proof," physical evidence of relationships and emotions that existed long before texts, DMs and social media. We also talk about the honesty required to tell your own story. Jack made a commitment not to sugarcoat his behavior, even when that meant putting himself in a bad light, while also making sure the women from his past were treated honestly and fairly. That honesty is a big part of what made the book connect with me. The skating is there, but so are the insecurity, excitement, rejection, relationships, mistakes and constant inner questioning that make the story relatable even if you have never put on a pair of skates. Jack also shares what it was like returning to roller skating decades later and discovering just how much the culture had changed. We compare the rink world he remembers with today's interconnected skate community, adult sessions, traveling skate events, social media, phones on the floor and even silent skate sessions. And of course, we talk about the music. More than 150 songs are referenced throughout the book, creating a soundtrack that runs alongside Jack's story and the era that produced it. As the Wheels Turn: Skating, Dating, and Long Distance Love is published by Koehler Books and releases September 22. Jack also talks about his upcoming book signings and what he ultimately hopes happens with the book. It isn't simply about selling copies. He hopes people finish it remembering not only where they were back then, but who they were. This one is about skating, but it is also about first love, memory, identity, growing up and looking back at the experiences that quietly helped make us who we are. Skater or not, Jack has a story worth hearing. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #RollerSkating #RollerSkatingHistory #SkateHistory #SkateCulture #SkateLife #RinkLife #RinkRat #RollerRink #SkatingStories #AsTheWheelsTurn #JackDieteman #KoehlerBooks #ComingOfAge #FirstLove #LongDistanceLove #1970s #1980s #SkateMemories #RollerSkatingCommunity #SkateCommunity #SkatingPodcast #Podcast #RollerSkaters
What happens when a skating rink becomes something much bigger than a place to skate? On Episode 134, I sit down with Rhonda and returning guest Bionic Billy, who are both at the Skate Haus in St. Charles, Missouri, to talk about the mission behind Giant Rocket’s Foundation. The story behind Giant Rocket’s Foundation is deeply personal. After Rhonda’s son Rocket was diagnosed with autism in 2025, the mission of the Skate Haus changed. What began as an adult skating lounge evolved into a sensory focused space dedicated to serving autistic and neurodivergent children and adults through skating, STEM, gardening, music, arts and programs designed to build confidence, social skills and independence. And nobody ages out.@TheSkateHaus #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #BionicBilly #GiantRocketsFoundation #RocketSkateLab #RollerSkating #RollerSkatingCommunity #SkateCommunity #SkateCulture #StLouisSkating #AutismAcceptance #AutismAwareness #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent #SensoryInclusive #AdaptiveSkating #InclusiveSkating #SkatingForEveryone #CommunityThroughSkating #SkateInstructor #RollerSkaters #SkateLife #SkatingChangesLives

This was a super fun conversation with Allison Nyberg aka DJ Space Cakes! She’s basically a walking Google machine for music in so many different ways — genres, eras, deep cuts, you name it, she’s got the encyclopedia in her head and the turntables to back it up.We dig into her move into becoming a skate DJ, combining her love for all things music with her love for all things roller skating. It’s a perfect merge of two passions, and hearing how she brought them together is honestly inspiring. On top of that, it’s obvious that when she wants to do something… it’s gonna happen. We talk about how she built her name as a DJ, what it takes to actually turn “I’m gonna do this” into a reality, and the mindset that keeps her moving forward instead of just talking about it.I pay attention to the way people communicate, and when I hear things like “of course I’m gonna do it” or “that’s gonna change,” I know she means it. How do I know? Because she’s already doing it. This conversation is proof that intention plus action is a hell of a combination.Tune in for a conversation about music knowledge, DJ culture, skate culture, and the kind of follow-through that turns big talk into real results.#Sk8LikeYouPodcast #Episode133 #DJSpaceCakes #AllisonNyberg#RollerSkating #SkateDJ #SkateCulture #RollerSkate #SkateLife #RollerDisco #SkateCommunity #SkateSkills #RollerSkatingLife #SkateVibes#DJLife #MusicKnowledge #DJCulture #TurntableSkills #MusicLover #DJSet #VinylCulture #MusicHistory #WomenInMusic #WomenDJs#MakeItHappen #FollowThrough #IntentionToAction #Manifestation #TurnTalkIntoAction #HustleMindset #GoGetter#PodcastEpisode #NewEpisode #PodcastInterview #ListenNow #PodcastLife #IndiePodcast

In Episode 131 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, we head from Marion, Indiana, to Kissimmee, Florida, to hear the inspiring story of eleven year old roller skater Carson and his journey into the world of shuffle skating. Carson's love for skating started at a young age, even though his first experience on wheels wasn't exactly love at first sight. After discovering the skating community, making new friends, and finding inspiration from skaters online, everything changed. Before long, Carson was practicing his shuffle skating, working on skating backwards, and pushing himself to become a better skater. In this episode, Carson talks about discovering his skating inspiration, Rink Rat Noah, how his mom introduced him to the Little Shufflers event at Skate Reflections in Kissimmee, and what it was like competing alongside some of the skaters he looked up to. From being unsure about skating as a young kid to stepping onto the floor at a major shuffle skating event, Carson's story is a great reminder of how quickly a passion can grow when you find the right people, the right inspiration, and a community that makes you want to keep rolling. Episode 131 is all about inspiration, family, friendship, competition, and the next generation of roller skaters. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #RollerSkating #ShuffleSkating #LittleShufflers #RollerSkater #Episode131 #RollerSkaters #ShuffleSkater #ShuffleSkaters #RollerDance #DanceSkating #RhythmSkating #RhythmSkater #ArtisticRollerSkating #QuadSkates #QuadSkating #RollerSkateLife #RollerSkatingLife #RollerSkatingCommunity #RollerSkatingCulture #RollerSkatingFamily #RollerSkatingKids #YoungSkater #NextGeneration #FutureOfSkating #SkateLife #SkateFamily #SkateCommunity #SkateCulture #SkateEveryDay #SkateJourney #SkateInspiration #SkatingInspiration #SkatingGoals #SkatingDreams #SkatingStory #SkatingLife #SkatingPassion #SkateTogether #RollTogether #RollerRink #RinkLife #RinkRat #SkateReflections #KissimmeeSkating #IndianaSkating #FloridaSkating #MarionIndiana #RollerSkatePodcast #SkatingPodcast #PodcastEpisode #PodcastLife #SkatePodcast #SkaterStory #NextGenSkaters #KidsWhoSkate #SkatersOfInstagram #RollerSkatersOfInstagram #RollerSkatingIsForEveryone
This week's Cheap Date LIVE was a day late but NOT a dollar short. As the podcast continues to evolve, I'm looking back at not only the first episodes, but also the first conversations I had with skaters about my goals. Nobody, including myself, had any reason to think this would become what it has but here we are. Also on the agenda was news about the 2nd annual SK8LIKE NO BRAKES happening September 26 & 27. I also give some insights into the awesome guests in upcoming episode. The LIVE finishes up with some fun as I breakdown my personal top 10 of the cheesiest love ballads from the 80s & early 90s that were also staple couple skate songs. #sk8likeyou #80smusic #90smusic #bryanadams #berlin #steeldragon #starship #mrbig #poison #nelson #nirvana #extreme #morethanwords #richardmarx #warrant #heaven #nothingsgonnastopusnow #everyrosehasitsthorn #loveballads #genx #nostalgia #throwback #podcast #rollerskating #livepodcast #cheapdatelive #sk8likeyoupodcast
The Cheap Date LIVE from August 10, 2026 was all about the wrap up of the Heart 2 Shuffle event that went down in Georgia. This was the 3rd year for the event & it just keeps getting better. On this episode of The SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with the one and only Kim Manning aka Spacequeen. Kim is a national-champion artistic roller skater, entertainer, stunt performer, singer, choreographer, circus artist, and skating educator whose journey on wheels began when she was just three years old. We talk about the path behind her decades-long career: competing as a young artistic skater, touring with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, bringing skating into Hollywood, and more. Kim also shares the story of creating Sk8 Like a Pro, her progressive online training system designed to help skaters build confidence, control, flow, and artistry at their own pace. But this episode goes well beyond skating. Kim and we get into what it means to bet on yourself, perseverance, creativity, reinvention, and what it really takes to turn a childhood passion into a meaningful life. #SK8LikeYou #KimManning #Spacequeen #RollerSkating #RollerSkater #ArtisticRollerSkating #ProSkater #SkatePodcast #RollerSkatePodcast #SkateCommunity #SkateCulture #SkateLife #SkateInspiration #WomenWhoSkate #SkateLikeAPro #RoyalRollers #HollywoodSkater #StuntSkater #RollerDance #SkateEducation #CreativeJourney #PodcastInterview #SkaterStories #KeepRolling #LiveYourPassion
This episode is live from Cortland Roller Rink, co-hosted by Liz Brown of Rink Rat Chat. We’re talking everything you need to know about the 2nd Annual SK8LIKE NO BRAKES going down September 26 & 27 at Whitehall SKATEAWAY in the Lehigh Valley. Coming off the energy of the inaugural 2025 event that had skaters across the country talking, this year’s edition promises to raise the bar even further with two full nights of skating, music, and community. We dive into how the event came to be, the growing lineup of features being rolled out, and what makes this year’s SK8LIKE NO BRAKES a must-attend for the skate community. A big highlight of this conversation is the addition of Dance Skate workshops led by @MorganWeske a professional dancer, skater, and choreographer with 15 years of experience teaching skaters worldwide. We talk about what skaters can expect from both of her workshops and how her approach helps build confidence, creativity, technique, and flow on wheels. Register at https://danceskate.com/workshops/p/ewnbskateparty2026 I also took some time to talk to a Cortland local derby player, getting their perspective on the local skate scene, as well as the Manager of Cortland Roller Rink, Shannon Hudspeth, about some exciting new things happening there and what it takes to keep a rink thriving. It’s a jam-packed episode full of event details, rink culture, and real conversations straight from the floor. #SK8LIKEYOU#Sk8LikeYouPodcast#SK8LIKENOBRAKES#WhitehallSkateaway#LehighValley#DanceSkate#MorganWeske#RollerSkating#RollerDerby#CortlandRollerRink#RinkRatChat#RollerSkateCulture#SkateCommunity#WeAreTheConversation#VoicesAmplified#SkatePodcast

On Episode 121 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I had the opportunity to sit down with Ebony, better known throughout the skating community as Coach E, founder of Step & Skate. Coach E shares her skating journey, how she found her passion for teaching, and what inspired her to create Step & Skate. Since launching the movement in 2022, she has helped countless skaters build confidence, improve their skills, and find their place within the skating community. We talk about the importance of quality skate instruction, the challenges and rewards of building a brand in the skating world, and how skating continues to impact lives both on and off the floor. Coach E also shares stories from her travels, her experiences teaching across the country, and her vision for the future of Step & Skate. This was a great conversation about growth, leadership, community, and the power of roller skating to bring people together. On this episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I’m joined by Tim Arnold for a conversation that goes far beyond skating. March 15, 2026 would become a date that changed everything for Tim and his partner Megan. While traveling home from one of the biggest shuffle skating events in the country, the two were involved in a devastating car accident that left Megan with catastrophic injuries. What happened next says everything about the skating community. Tim explains that he has only been seriously skating for about five years, but in the middle of one of the hardest moments of their lives, none of that mattered. Support immediately began pouring in from skaters and supporters around the world. Messages, encouragement, prayers, and even real financial help came from people who understood how overwhelming the toll of something like this can become. The skate community showed up for Tim and Megan in a way they never could have imagined. Despite everything they continue to face, their spirits remain unbelievably strong. Tim wanted to make sure everyone who reached out knows just how grateful they truly are as Megan continues her healing journey. This is a powerful episode about resilience, perspective, community, and the people who show up when life changes in an instant. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #RollerSkating #ShuffleSkating #SkateCommunity #RhythmSkating #RollerSkateCommunity #SkatersSupportingSkaters #SkateLife #RollerSkaters #CommunityOverEverything #StrongerTogether #HealingJourney #KeepRolling #LifePodcast #SkateCulture #SupportSystem #Inspiration #Resilience #RollerSkateLove #PassionNotPopularity #VoicesAmplified #CraftedWithoutCompromise #MeganStrong #skatefamily
This month on the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast Topic Show, I’m joined by co-host Liz Brown of Rink Rat Chat and special guest Brad Armstrong, owner of multiple roller skating rinks across the United States including Roller Kingdom in Reno, Nevada, The Rink in Sacramento, California, Top Gun Skate Center in Fallon, Nevada, and Cortland Roller Rink in Cortland, Ohio. In this episode, we sit down and talk about what actually makes a roller rink successful. Brad gives real insight from the owner’s perspective about why some rinks thrive while others struggle to survive. We talk about the biggest mistakes rink owners make, how skating culture has changed over the years, what skaters expect from a modern rink experience, and what it really takes behind the scenes to keep a rink operating successfully. This conversation goes far beyond just business. We talk about community, music, culture, leadership, consistency, and the responsibility that rink owners have in helping keep roller skating alive for future generations. If you’ve ever wondered why some rinks become legendary while others disappear, this is an episode you don’t want to miss. New episodes every Sunday. This bonus episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast was recorded live on location at the legendary Cortland Roller Rink during Spring Bling 2026. From skating legends who helped shape the culture, to the regulars who keep these sessions alive every week, to the next generation already carving out their own lane, this episode is all about the people who make roller skating what it is. Throughout the night I grabbed conversations with skaters from every era and every style to talk about what keeps them rolling, how the culture continues to evolve, and why events like Spring Bling still matter. Different perspectives, different stories, but the same love for skating that connects everybody in the building. This is the kind of episode that captures the energy you can only get inside a packed rink during a major event. The music, the stories, the history, the laughs, the generations all sharing the same floor together. Episode 116 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast features a content creator in the skating world that is probably making frequent appearances in your social media feeds lately… Greggo (instagram.com/thatsgregg0) This was actually Greggo’s very first official podcast appearance and from the second we started talking, I knew this conversation was going somewhere completely different than I expected. What started as a discussion about skating and content creation quickly turned into one of the deepest conversations I’ve had yet about internet culture, trolling, cancel culture, comedy, social media psychology and what it really means to create content in today’s world. Greggo opens up about how his page evolved from simply posting skate clips into becoming a full blown content platform, how he connected with creators like Ant Banks and why so many people completely misunderstand the difference between trolling and actual malicious intent. We also get into the role comedy plays in exposing uncomfortable truths and talk about everything from Howard Stern and Druski to Shane Gillis, Kevin Hart roasts and how internet outrage has completely changed the way people interact online. A lot of this conversation honestly felt bigger than skating itself because so much of what we discussed applies to culture as a whole right now. Of course, we also dug deep into skating. Greggo talks about growing up skating Sundays at Roller Dome in Virginia with his mom, the moment his entire perspective changed after discovering real skate culture at Greenbriar, and how traveling to national events made him realize just how massive and connected the skating world really is. We also had a really honest conversation about regional styles, shuffle skating, East Coast skating influence and the deep history of roller skating in America including discussing a period in U.S. history where legally enforced segregation at roller rinks across the country was a very real thing. We talked about how those realities shaped rink culture, regional identities and skating communities in ways many people still do not fully realize today. This episode honestly turned into one of the most thought provoking conversations I’ve had on the podcast in a long time and I think a lot of people are going to take something from it whether they agree with everything said or not. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #Greggo #RollerSkating #QuadSkating #SkateCulture #SkateCommunity #ShuffleSkating #JamSkating #SkateLife #RollerRink #ContentCreator #SkatingPodcast #Podcast #SkateHistory #RollerSkateCulture #AdultSkateNight #EastCoastSkating #SkateConversation #InternetCulture #ComedyCulture #Trolling #SocialMediaCulture #Druski #AntBanks #GreenbriarSkating #VirginiaSkating #SkatersOfInstagram #SkateTok #VoicesAmplified
At just 11 years old and on the verge of turning 12, Ty VanHoose, better known online as “TyOn8s”, is already turning heads in the skating world. And the craziest part? He’s only been skating for about 7 to 8 months as of today. But if you’ve ever seen him roll, you’d never believe it. Whether it’s adult nights or major events, Ty has already been holding his own alongside seasoned speed and shuffle skaters from all over the country. I first met Ty at the HeartBreak event earlier this year, and one thing was immediately obvious… this kid is ALL IN. From day one on skates, Ty has been completely obsessed with improving and finding every possible opportunity to practice. And when it comes to practice, who even needs a rink? Whether it’s sessions in the garage or the basement where his dad, Joshua VanHoose, literally cleared space for him to skate, Ty is constantly putting in work. In fact, that basement practice is where he taught himself how to skate backwards. Ty’s father Josh has been skating for years, and now skating has become an even deeper way for their family to connect, bond, and spend time together. Recently, Ty started Facebook and TikTok pages simply so extended family around the country could watch his skating journey. But unexpectedly, those videos have started inspiring and encouraging skaters of all ages. Ty’s parents credit skating as one of the most positive influences in his life, not just at the rink but in school and everyday life as well. And while Ty clearly has natural ability on eight wheels, don’t get it twisted… his rapid progression comes from relentless practice, consistency, and an attitude that refuses to stop improving. Ty’s positivity, work ethic, and passion for skating are exactly what make this episode so special. Angie shares the inspiration behind the event and her mission of bringing the skating community together while raising awareness and support for the American Heart Association. Ron Murray also joins the conversation to talk about his continued support of the culture and his passion for outdoor skating. During Heart 2 Shuffle 2026, Ron is giving back in a major way by offering TWO opportunities for skaters to win sets of his amazing outdoor wheels, giving attendees even more reasons to pull up for the weekend. On location at Midwest Jam Fest in Cincinnati, this one is straight from the floor. The energy, the music, the movement, everything that makes events like this special was on full display. I tapped in with skaters who are really outside putting in work and pushing the culture forward. Chopped it up with Rachael Mills, Rob McGSkates, DJ JAMZ, and Korn Kid, the JG Hubs SAFO winner, plus more voices from the session. From personal stories to what Midwest Jam Fest means to them, this episode captures the real-time heartbeat of the event. This is what SK8LIKEYOU is about. I sat down with Greg, Mike, Rich, and James of Roll’em Up, a crew that’s built on real connection, history, and a shared love for skating that never left them. We talked about how each of them got their start, what brought them together to form Roll’em Up, and the time they all spent away from the floor. But this one goes deeper than just the origin story. Months ago, something pulled them all back in at the same time. What started as a decision to link up again turned into something bigger. Now the only conversation isn’t if they’re skating, it’s where they’re skating next. And through it all, one thing has remained the same. Their original home rink, Christiana in Delaware, is still their home rink today. That foundation, that history, and that sense of place is a big part of what keeps the crew grounded. This episode is about loyalty, timing, and that feeling you can’t ignore when skating calls you back. And one thing is clear. Roll’em Up is back, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. #SK8LIKEYOU #RollEmUp #RollerSkating #SkateCrew #SkateLife #BackOnWheels #SkateCulture #RinkLife #SkateCommunity #AdultSkate #JamSkating #SkatePodcast #WheelsUp #SkatersOfInstagram #SkateEverywhere #delaware #christiana

Ron breaks down his brand new outdoor wheels and the latest updates, including the new options skaters have been waiting for. But this isn’t just another product drop. This is the result of an all-star collaboration. Ron teamed up with Jim Garrett of JG Hubs and Nathan Edwards of N.E.ThingMachined to make sure every detail hits at the highest level. We get into how these wheels were developed, what makes them different, and why this collaboration matters for the future of outdoor skating. From materials and performance to real skater feedback and testing, nothing was rushed and nothing was overlooked. I sat down with Devon Messer of the Ohio Rollers for Episode 109 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, and this one is all about community, consistency, and what it really takes to build something that lasts in the skate scene. Devon represents a crew that’s putting in real work. The Ohio Rollers aren’t just showing up… they’re creating a lane, building momentum, and bringing people together through skating. We got into how it all started, what drives the movement, and the responsibility that comes with representing something bigger than yourself. This conversation goes deeper than just skating. We talk about leadership, showing up for your people, and the difference between those who talk about it and those who actually do it. Devon breaks down the mindset behind staying consistent, elevating the scene around you, and making sure the culture keeps moving forward. I sat down with Marlo “FloJo” Jones for a special bonus episode and this one hits different. FloJo isn’t just part of the Pittsburgh skate scene. She’s one of the people who refused to let it fade. When a major skate spot was lost and hundreds of skaters were left without a home, most would’ve accepted it. FloJo didn’t. Alongside Liz Brown of Rink Rat Chat, we go deep into what it really takes to keep a culture alive. This is about resilience, pressure, and making something out of nothing when everything says it’s over. Contact FloJo for apparell at: facebook.com/marlo.d.jones.9 We talk about: • losing a skate space and what that actually did to the community • the behind-the-scenes grind of rebuilding momentum • how FloJo turned setbacks into fuel instead of excuses • what it takes to organize and sustain real events • the energy behind her annual event “Who Want Smoke” and why it keeps growing FloJo didn’t just bring something back. She leveled it up. Because she refused to quit, the adult skate scene in the 412 isn’t just surviving. It’s evolving. This is a conversation about standing on business, protecting the culture, and proving that if you don’t give up, you can shift an entire scene. If you skate, you need to hear this one. #SK8LIKEYOU #RollerSkating #PittsburghSkateScene #412Skate #WhoWantSmoke #SkateCulture #SkateCommunity #AdultSkate #RinkLife #SkateEvent #SkateFamily #KeepSkatingAlive #LevelUp #WeAreTheConversation #VoicesAmplified
I sat down with DJ Gemini and Favi of the 311 Sk8 Crew out of Cincinnati, and this conversation goes way deeper than just skating. For them, this isn’t just a crew it’s family. The way they move, the way they show up, and the way they support each other all comes back to one thing community. Everything they do is rooted in building something bigger than themselves. We talked about what it really means to grow not just as individual skaters, but as a sk8fam. Personal development matters, but so does making sure everyone around you is leveling up too. That balance between pushing yourself and pouring into your people is what makes 311 stand out. This one is about loyalty, growth, and what happens when a group of skaters truly move as one #SK8LIKEYOU #311Sk8Crew #SkateFamily #SkateCommunity #RollerSkating #Sk8Fam #CincinnatiSkaters #SkateCulture #LevelUpTogether #SkateLife
I sat down with Jim Larson who could only be described as a staple of the quad & inline speed skating world. His history in nearly every aspect of the sport has spanned over 50 years. Jim and I talk about what it really takes to move at a different level on wheels. From the mindset behind elite speed skating to the discipline, sacrifice, and precision it demands, Jim breaks down a side of skating that most people don’t fully understand. We get into how speed skating shaped his life, what separates good skaters from great ones, and how control, power, and consistency all come together when you’re pushing limits on the floor. This isn’t just about going fast, it’s about intention, preparation, and knowing exactly who you are as a skater. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to reach that next level, this episode gives you a real look behind the curtain. #SK8LIKEYOU #RollerSkating #SpeedSkating #SkateCulture #SkateLife #QuadSkating #SkateCommunity #SkatersOfInstagram #InlineSpeed #RollerSports #SkatePodcast #PodcastLife #ListenNow #SkateTalk #SkatingJourney #SkateMotivation #EliteSkaters #SkateTraining #SkateHard #SkateEveryday #SkateInfluence #WheelsUp #SkateFlow #SkateMindset #NextLevelSkating
In Part 2 of this Topic Show, I’m back with co-host Liz Brown of Rink Rat Chat and special guest Jackie Cusmano of EWNB as we continue our deep dive into Rink Etiquette, this time stepping off the floor as well and getting into everything happening around it. We’re talking about the side of skating that doesn’t always get called out but everybody sees. At what point does camerawork become too much? Are some skaters more focused on content than actually skating? We get into the rise of skating for the camera and what that does to the session. We also tackle entitlement in the culture, from skaters expecting freebies to how that mindset affects events, brands, and the community as a whole. Then we go deeper into the real conversations people avoid, the drama inside your Sk8fam, how it spills into the wider scene, and why it matters more than people think. On the floor, we address high risk activity, when expression crosses the line into recklessness and what responsibility skaters have to each other in shared spaces. And finally, we get into event culture, from planning etiquette to a question that keeps coming up more and more, are there too many skate events? This one is honest, unfiltered, and necessary. In this episode, I sit down with Marly, the face behind @skatewithmarly and someone who’s building something real in the roller skating world. Her story goes way deeper than skating. Marly immigrated from Lebanon to Canada, leaving behind a life that had the potential to become dangerous, in search of something better. That kind of move takes courage, and you can feel that same energy in everything she’s doing today. We get into her journey from working as a pharmacist to stepping fully into skating and turning it into her purpose. That transition alone says everything about what this culture can do when you fully commit to it. She’s not just skating, she’s creating community. Through her Roller Dance Company and the MTL Quad Squad, she’s bringing people together, teaching, inspiring, and giving people a space to grow both on and off the floor. What stands out to me is how intentional she is with everything she’s building. This isn’t about trends or clout. This is about impact, connection, and creating something that actually matters. We talk about: • Leaving Lebanon and starting over in a new country • How skating became more than just something to do • Building a community from the ground up • Creating safe, empowering spaces in skating • Turning passion into purpose This episode is about resilience, taking control of your story, and using skating as a vehicle to build a life on your own terms. #rollerskating #rollerskater #rollerskate #quadskating #rollerskatelife #rollerskatingcommunity #skatelife #skateculture #skateeveryday #skatejourney #sk8likeyou #sk8likeyoupodcast #podcastlife #podcastclips #newpodcast #spotifypodcast #applepodcasts #youtubepodcast #immigrantstory #resilience #purpose #chasingdreams #startover #findyourpurpose #motivationdaily #inspiration #growthmindset #rollerdance #rollerskatedance #skatedance #jamstyle #flowstate #freestyleskating #montrealskaters #canadaskaters #womensupportingwomen #creativecommunity #communityovercompetition
In this episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Shayne and Kayla Mote to talk about the upcoming Catch the Rhythm for Autism skating event taking place April 24, 25, and 26 at Sportsworld Skate Center in Cullman, Alabama. We break down everything skaters need to know about the event, including the full weekend schedule, what sessions and activities are planned, and what makes this event such a unique gathering for the skating community. But this conversation goes deeper than just the schedule. Shayne and Kayla share the personal story behind Catch the Rhythm for Autism and why creating this event means so much to them. What started as a passion project has grown into something that brings skaters together while raising awareness and support for autism. In Part 2 of my conversation with Hinton Covington, better known as QuadSkatingHinton, we keep the conversation rolling with some of the funniest and most relatable moments from rink life. If you’ve spent any time around roller skating, you already know the rink always has a story. Hinton and I get into some of the hilarious things that happen at rinks everywhere and the personalities that make up the sk8fam. We also talk about travel skating, visiting rinks in different cities, and how every rink has its own energy, style, and culture. These are the kinds of conversations that every skater can relate to because if you’ve been around skating long enough, you’ve probably seen some of the same things we’re talking about. Part 2 keeps the humor and honesty going as we talk about the culture, the community, and the moments that make roller skating what it is. Ask around the skate community and skaters will tell you the same thing. One day Hinton just started showing up in their feeds. With a quick wit and even quicker delivery, his commentary quickly caught the attention of the roller skating world. Blending humor with truth, Hinton has built a following by pointing out the things skaters see every weekend but rarely say out loud. From rink personalities to sk8fam dynamics, his content highlights the satire of rink life in a way that is both hilarious and relatable. In Part 1 of this two part conversation, we talk about how Hinton’s videos started gaining traction, the role humor plays in skating culture, and why sometimes the best way to say something real is through satire. Whether he is calling out the obvious or just making skaters laugh at themselves, Hinton brings a fresh voice to the conversation. If you have ever watched one of his videos and thought, “That is way too accurate,” this episode is for you. #SK8LIKEYOU #QuadSkatingHinton #HintonCovington #RollerSkating #SkateCulture #RinkLife #Sk8Fam #RollerSkatePodcast #SkateTalk #SkatersOfInstagram #RollerSkatingCommunity #SkateHumor #RinkStories
Every rink has its own rhythm, its own rules, and its own unspoken code. In Episode 103 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast Topic Show, we dive headfirst into one of the most important conversations in roller skating culture: rink etiquette. This episode also features special guest Jackie Cusmano of EWNB, who brings her perspective from the event and promotion side of skating. Together, the crew shares stories, opinions, and real-life situations that highlight how rink culture works when everyone respects the floor and what happens when they don’t. Joined as always by co-host Liz Brown of Rink Rat Chat, we break down the do’s, don’ts, and gray areas that every skater encounters on the floor. Whether you're a seasoned rink regular or someone just getting comfortable in the circle, understanding rink etiquette is key to keeping the session smooth, respectful, and fun for everyone. From floor traffic and lane awareness to respecting styles, space, and the vibe of different sessions, this conversation digs into the nuances that keep the skate community rolling. And because there’s a lot to unpack on this topic, this is Part 1 of a two-part episode. In this episode we discuss questions like: • Who really has the right of way on the floor? • How do different styles coexist in the same rink? • Should kids who can roll be allowed at adult sessions? • And much more! This episode starts the conversation. We are the conversation. Voices amplified. 🎧 SK8LIKEYOU Podcast – Amplifying the voices of roller skating, one story at a time. #SK8LIKEYOU #Sk8LikeYouPodcast #RinkEtiquette #RollerSkating #RollerSkateCulture #SkateCommunity #RinkLife #AdultSkateSession #SkateTalk #SkateDebate #SkateCulture #RinkRat #RinkRatChat #EWNB #RollerSkaters #SkateSession #SkateLife #WeAreTheConversation #VoicesAmplified #SkatePodcast
In Episode 102 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Doug Crabtree, better known as Caveman, and we really go there. Doug shares his early history in skating and how his home rink shaped his jam style. That rink hosted early members of the Break Skate crew, including Tony Zane and Diamond Walker, and being around that level of talent and innovation left a permanent imprint on him. You can hear how those early influences helped form his identity, creativity, and confidence on the floor. But this conversation goes deeper than skating. Doug opens up about his personal battle with depression and how stepping away from the rink impacted him. More importantly, he shares how returning to skating became a turning point in his life. The rink became therapy. It became community. It became fulfillment. This episode is about influence, resilience, and the power of roller skating to bring you back to yourself. If you’ve ever found healing at the rink, this one will hit home. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #Episode102 #DougCrabtree #CavemanSkates #JamSkating #BreakSkate #TonyZane #DiamondWalker #RollerSkating #RinkLife #SkateCommunity #SkateTherapy #MentalHealthAwareness #SkatingSavedMe #QuadSkating #RhythmSkating #SkateCulture #VoicesAmplified #WeAreTheConversation
This week on SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Zane Dixon to talk about the 2nd Annual Midwest Jam Fest going down May 1, 2, and 3, 2026. Last year, Zane organized the very first Jam Fest and it delivered. The energy was real. The culture showed up. It made noise. Now he is doing it again, only this time it is bigger, sharper, and even more intentional. But this conversation goes deeper than just an event. Zane comes from a true skating legacy. His family owns Castle Skateland in Loveland, Ohio, one of the most loved rinks in the country. He grew up inside this culture and inside the responsibility of preserving something that means everything to people. That gives him a perspective most promoters simply do not have. In this episode, I break down with Zane: The vision behind Midwest Jam Fest What makes year two different What it means to carry on a rink legacy The balance of being both a promoter and part of a rink family Exactly what you need to know before May 1, 2, and 3 If you are pulling up to Jam Fest, thinking about it, or just want to understand how events like this actually get built from the inside out, this episode is for you. For the 100th episode of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sat down with Tony Zane — someone who has truly helped shape roller skating culture through longevity, evolution, musicality, and power. This conversation meant more to me than just another episode. Tony represents foundation. He represents consistency. He represents what it looks like to build something that lasts. We talked about: • What it takes to stay relevant for decades • Reinventing yourself without losing your identity • Becoming a blueprint without even realizing it • The responsibility that comes with influence • How skating grows from passion into purpose As I closed out this episode, I realized something... hitting 100 isn’t about numbers. It’s about people. It’s about voices. It’s about the impact this culture has had on my life and on so many others. Thank you to every guest, every listener, and every skater who has made SK8LIKEYOU what it is today. #SK8LIKEYOU #SK8LIKEYOUPodcast #100VoicesLater #Episode100 #TonyZane #RollerSkating #RollerSkateCulture #SkateCulture #SkateLegacy #VoicesAmplified #Post100HitsDifferent #LongFormPodcast #SkateCommunity #PavedTheWay #Blueprint #SkateHistory #SkateInfluence #SkateStory #SkateInspiration #RollerSkateLife
Episode 99 of the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast features one of the most fascinating voices in roller skating today. Ginger Mathews, widely known as The Skate Critic, Ginger comes from a deep rooted skating family spanning every discipline, with direct ties to rink ownership and operations. That foundation turned into a lifelong mission. For more than 12 years, she has traveled the country visiting, reviewing, and rating roller rinks while documenting their history, culture, and condition. She maintains one of the most thorough and meticulously researched libraries of rink information anywhere, covering currently operating rinks across the world as well as rinks that have long since closed their doors. From floor quality and sound systems to management philosophy, regional styles, and preservation of skating culture, her knowledge goes far beyond surface level reviews. This conversation dives into the realities of rink ownership, what separates great rinks from forgettable ones, why history matters, and how skating spaces shape communities. It is thoughtful, honest, occasionally challenging, and easily one of the most compelling discussions to ever hit the podcast. There will absolutely be a part two. Season 7 begins with one of the most powerful and emotional stories we’ve ever shared on the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast. Our guest, Lauren Smyth, has been a lifelong skater whose love for roller skating has always been part of who she is. But six years ago, everything changed when she was diagnosed with late stage 3 ovarian cancer and since the diagnosis has progressed to stage 4. Since that day, Lauren has been fighting for her life with strength, courage, and an unshakable spirit that continues to inspire everyone who knows her. As devastating as this diagnosis was, what followed became something truly remarkable. During her fight, Lauren reconnected with her first love, Jimmy Bee — the same person she met years ago at the rink as a kid. What began as a childhood romance grew into something even deeper as adults. After living separate lives and building families of their own, fate brought them back together, reminding us that sometimes love really does come full circle. This episode is about more than just skating. It’s about love, resilience, and the way the rink can bring people together even in the hardest moments of life. Lauren’s journey is heartbreaking and inspiring all at once, and her courage represents the best of what our community stands for — strength, unity, and hope on eight wheels. There is also a way you can help. At this year’s Philly Fall Sk8 Bash, skaters from all over are coming together to support Lauren and her fight. Chase may be one of the youngest guests to ever join the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, but his talent knows no age limit. A dedicated skater since the age of five, he’s been rolling alongside skaters twice and older -but holding his own- for years. Already a regular at national events, Chase has attended more than I have, and he’s among a very select few his age trusted to skate at some of the fastest adult sessions happening today. This week on the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast, I sit down with Melanie Swadley aka MelanieATL, a lifelong skater in the ATL. Melanie has skated at every level of competition, but these days she embraces the rink simply for herself and as a gift she can pass on to her kids. After stepping away for a while, Melanie recently returned to skating, and her focus is all about fun: learning new styles, pushing herself in fresh ways, and skating purely for the joy of it - not trophies. What makes this episode so special (and hilarious) is that unlike so many of my guests, Melanie had no idea who I was before we hit record. Honestly, I loved it. Neither of us knew much about the other, and that made for one of the most genuine, funny, and authentic conversations I’ve had yet. From her Atlanta skating roots, to her honest perspective on competing, to her journey back to the floor in a social-media-heavy skate world—this conversation is full of laughs, realness, and that ATL skating spirit. Melanie is proof that once skating is in you, it never leaves. Jamie M. aka DJ JAMZ is one of the most sought-after Skate DJ’s in the event scene. Residing in Florida, his music roots are based in the freestyle genre that is synonymous with his home state & not to mention the Roller Skate scene too. Like many Skate DJ’s, JAMZ was a skater first but it was the DJ Booth that he eventually preferred over the rink floor. Through years of work he has honed his craft making him one of the most popular DJ’s among Florida skaters and event skaters from all over. JAMZ is a fixture at multiple rinks in the Orlando area as well as events like USA Shuffle Skate that takes place twice a year at Sparkles in Georgia. With a positive attitude he sincerely approaches every skate venue with the impossible goal of pleasing everyone. Using this goal as his compass, he has found great success and appreciation from skaters everywhere. I was really excited to sit down with him and hear firsthand what his journey has been like from beginning at a rink with zero experience to becoming one of the most respected DJ’s in the game. Enjoy!
Rob Maxwell is a native of Maine and skater who grew up rolling primarily at one of the many Happy Wheels locations. I recently met Rob back in November 2024 while skating numerous rinks in New England. During my visit I had the chance to skate with Rob twice. First at Happy Wheels in Westrbrook, ME and then again the following night at Rollodrome in Auburn. It was at Rollodrome where I really got to talk with Rob and hear about his passion for skating firsthand. It was immediately apparent to me that I wanted to hear more & that I bet others would too. I am glad we just scratched the surface that night in Auburn. So join me now as we take an extra deep dive in this episode. Enjoy!
Connor English is a skater & DJ whose skating ability far exceeds the norm based on the actual number of years he’s been rolling. Connor currently DJ’s at Skateaway Whitehall as well as other events in the Tri-State Area. As a regular skater at Roller Jam USA before closing, he makes it no secret where much of his influence as a DJ comes from. In addition to his love for skating, his love for DJing for skaters seems to be even greater. He is forthright about wanting to elevate the culture overall & introduce different kinds of music at the rink to others. Connor has a true passion for what he does which results in passionate opinions and drive. He doesn’t mince words and I was glad to hear it all. This episode is very different and may even teeter on the edge of controversy for some. No matter what, it is real, and that’s exactly the kind of conversation I want to have!

Derek Fitzgerald is the owner & operator of Happy Wheels Skate Center in Westbrook, ME. Derek’s journey to become a rink owner is special to say the least. Happy Wheels was a staple of both Maine & New Hampshire for decades. Derek himself worked for the company for 25 years prior to owning his own rink. The last Happy Wheels location closed in 2019 & we actually recorded this episode exactly 5 years later. In that 5 years Derek has worked tirelessly, especially during COIVD, to resurrect Happy Wheels and he succeeded. Although the building is brand new, the brand is not & Derek made it his mission to replicate the signature Happy Wheels style & it couldn’t be better. As someone that grew up skating in Maine & Happy Wheels, it is like walking back in time for me and many others. The Maine skating community continues to show gratitude to Derek for re-igniting passion for skating and for returning a staple of childhood to thousands in New England. As a result of literally growing up surrounded by rink owners and operators from all over the state, Derek is also an encyclopedia of Maine skating history. This alone made this one of the most personal episodes for myself as he was able to share things that I had never known about my second family who happened to own the rink where I grew up. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed being a part of it!
Brandon Nix is a lifelong skater from Alabama that is one of the most beloved people in the national skate event scene. If you’re a regular listener of the podcast then you’ve heard me talk about him before. With a talent that is only outmatched by his humility, he is very much the example of what sk8fam is all about. The highlight of my first ever USA Shuffle event was skating with this guy. I was humbled when meeting him & he conveyed a similar message to me. Brandon & sat down & basically just had a conversation about passion for skating. It was an honor to have him on the podcast & I hope you enjoy this conversation.
This Bonus Episode is a collaborative effort between Skate Nerds instagram.com/skate_nrd & their Rink Rat Chat Series & Sk8LikeYou. You can also follow Skate Nerds on Facebook facebook.com/nevillerollerdrome After attending the 2024 Steel City Shuffle Skate, Liz Brown contacted me about doing an interview for their Rink Rat Chat Series with herself & JD Doptis. This would be a new segment for their series & the only long format segment to date. Although it would be different for me being the one answering the questions, their passion for skating overall made it a no-brainer. So after a couple months of coordinating schedules, I made the trip back to Pittsburgh to record this interview shot on-location at Neville RollerDrome. I hope you enjoy this unique addition to the Sk8LikeYou Podcast Series. The interview was the perfect balance of humor, emotion & passion for skating. Daniel Carlson is a lifelong skater with a story much like many of us. Dan found his passion for skating as a kid, skated for years, stepped away & found his way back. Dan is a Colorado native & although he travels further than most for skate events, I don't think I've personally been to an event on the east coast without seeing him. He is known as D-Vine to Sk8Fam & for good reason having mastered nearly every aspect of the Grapevine. Not only is a Dan an enthusiastic attendee of numerous skate events every year, but he also manufactures his own skate lights called D-Vine LED's which started simply when he decided he wanted to have a higher quality option than what he was able to find. In addition to D-Vine LED's, Dan has also created the only Colorado Skate Event that has become an annual staple. I sat down with Dan for one of the longest conversations I've had so far & enjoyed every minute. I'm sure you will too!

He is very open with his substantially large social media following about the positive impact skating has made & continues to make on his life. In a short time Rob has become widely known among the event skating world for his willingness to always offer a handshake to anyone that might have the same, "I'm new here" look that he knows he had at one point. Rob & I sat down to talk about our shared love of New England skate culture, the skate community & more.
