Retirement is supposed to be the reward for a life well lived—freedom, travel, hobbies, and time for ourselves. But there’s a part of retirement that often goes unspoken: loneliness. In this video, I open up about the quiet moments that caught me off guard. Even with a full schedule and plenty of people around, I’ve felt an emptiness I didn’t expect. And for some, that loneliness comes after a life-changing event—like the loss of a partner through death or divorce. After sharing your days, your stories, your plans with someone, the silence can feel overwhelming. It’s not just about missing their presence; it’s about re-learning how to exist in your world without them. That type of loneliness is deep, and it takes time, patience, and compassion to navigate. Other times, loneliness is less emotional and more situational—you’re simply bored. After decades of being busy with work, kids, deadlines, or responsibilities, the sudden freedom can leave a strange void. You wake up with time on your hands, but no clear plan or motivation to fill it. Boredom can quietly evolve into disconnection, and it’s often overlooked as a source of loneliness. Whether you’re newly retired, years into it, or still thinking about what life will look like after work, this conversation matters. Loneliness in retirement can sneak up on anyone—especially after we lose daily routines, structured social connections, or a strong sense of purpose. And while it can feel isolating, you’re not alone in feeling this way. I’ll share some personal insights, and a few small tips that have helped me reconnect—with others, and with myself. If this video resonates with you, I hope you’ll leave a comment. Let's build a community where we can talk about the hard stuff—because no one should feel alone in retirement.

Welcome to a very personal episode of my retirement journey — one that doesn't include beaches, books, and bucket lists. Not yet, anyway. This video dives into the emotional reality of being part of the "Sandwich Generation," but in my case, it's more like a triple-decker. I’m pulled in three directions: my six grandkids (ranging from 2 to 19), my aging parents — including a father with severe dementia — and my own retired husband who’s eager to travel and explore. Sound familiar? You're not alone. In this heartfelt video, I share the guilt, the pressure, and the constant balancing act that defines this phase of life for so many of us. Retirement was supposed to be freedom — but for many, it's a season of caregiving, decision-making, and emotional overwhelm. I talk about the heartbreak of watching my father’s decline, the worry of not being present enough for my grandkids, and the mental tug-of-war between duty and desire. It's raw, it's honest, and it’s a conversation we don’t have often enough. If you're navigating retirement while caring for aging parents and supporting younger generations, this video is for you. Whether you're feeling torn, tired, or just need to hear someone say, "me too," I hope this message brings you comfort, validation, and maybe even a little clarity. Retirement is a dream for many, but the question of financial readiness looms large. In fact it THE most asked question I get. With rising costs and uncertain economic times, it's natural to wonder if you've saved enough. In this video, we'll break down the key factors to consider when determining your retirement readiness. We'll explore essential calculations, potential pitfalls, and strategies to help you gain clarity and confidence in your financial future. First, we'll dive into calculating your retirement needs. Understanding how much money you'll need is the foundation of retirement planning. We then look at your expenses and debt. Estimating your retirement income is crucial. Factor in all potential income sources, including pensions, Social Security, investments, and part-time work. Use online calculators and financial planning tools to create projections. Remember to consider inflation and potential tax implications to get a more accurate estimate. And always remember, while DIY financial planning can be empowering, seeking advice from a qualified financial advisor can provide invaluable insights. They can help you create a personalized retirement plan, optimize your investments, and address any specific concerns you may have. Remember, professional guidance can make a significant difference in achieving your retirement goals. DISCLAIMER - I am not a financial planner, this is NOT Financial advice! Rightfully so, many people are nervous to retire. They have been working for 40ish years and the thought of retiring sends shivers down their spine. Others are excited and can't wait to pull the plug. No matter which one you are, don't let anyone tell you the RIGHT way for you to retire. My best advice is there isn't ONE way to retire. There are many, many ways and what is right for one person may not be right for another. Take the time to research, ask questions, listen to podcasts and video's but make the BEST decision for you and your circumstances. And don't be scared to say "this isn't what I expected" and try something new. Don't be scared to go back to work! Don't be scared to say I wasn't ready and don't be scared to say this is GREAT! In today's video I talk about the 3 phases a person will go through during their retirmenet. They are, the GO-GO phase, the SLOW-GO phase and the NO-GO phase. Typically when a person first retires, they want to enjoy as much as they can, they travel, do new things, try new activities and enjoy life to the fullest. As their retirement moves on and as they get older they begin to slow down and enter a different stage. As they continue to age, they move into the NO-GO phase where travel isn't an option any longer. This video whole heartedly encourages you to enjoy life to the fullest while you can. Go, do thing, try new things and have fun. Make your RETIREMENT REMARKABLE.
Are you ready to turn your life into your dream RETIREMENT? Me too!! But what I didn't anticipate were these 3 challenges. When I pictured my retirement I saw fun, travel, excitement and enjoyment. The concept of the "Go Go, Slow Go, and No Go" phases of retirement is a helpful framework for understanding the changing financial dynamics retirees experience over time. These phases reflect the evolving lifestyle and financial needs during retirement. In the "Go Go" phase, which typically occurs during the early years of retirement, retirees are often eager to fulfill their long-held dreams and desires. This is the time for travel, hobbies, and pursuing activities they didn't have time for during their working years. While this phase can be exhilarating, it often comes with increased spending. Retirees may find themselves dipping into their savings or investment portfolios more aggressively. It's important to budget and plan for these years carefully to avoid overspending, as doing so can impact the sustainability of retirement assets in the later phases. The "Slow Go" phase follows the initial exuberance and tends to happen in the later part of retirement. During this period, retirees may gradually reduce their spending on activities and travel, settling into a quieter, more predictable routine. While expenses may decrease, healthcare costs can rise during this phase, so it's essential to have a plan in place for potential medical expenses. Careful financial management and a sustainable withdrawal strategy from retirement accounts become crucial in the Slow Go phase to ensure that one's savings last throughout retirement. Finally, the "No Go" phase refers to the later years of retirement when health concerns and reduced mobility may limit a retiree's ability to engage in expensive activities or travel extensively. During this phase, healthcare expenses can become a significant financial burden. It's essential to have a well-structured retirement income plan, including considerations for long-term care and medical expenses. Estate planning also becomes a priority during this time to ensure that one's assets are distributed according to their wishes. In summary, understanding the Go Go, Slow Go, and No Go phases of retirement is essential for effective financial planning. Each phase comes with its unique financial challenges and opportunities, and being prepared for these transitions can help retirees maintain their financial security and peace of mind throughout their retirement years. If you Google the word retirement you'll get thousands and thousands of websites all focused on money. What to invest in, where to put your money and how to spend it. But "health is wealth" really takes on a profound significance the older you get. As we transition from our active working years into a phase of life characterized by leisure and relaxation, the value of good health becomes abundantly clear. Health serves as the foundational pillar upon which the entirety of one's retirement experience rests. The ability to savor newfound freedom, explore personal interests, and spend quality time with loved ones hinges upon the state of one's physical and mental well-being. In the absence of good health, the financial savings amassed over a lifetime often lose much of their luster. A healthy body and mind enables us to engage in the activities we love, travel to new destinations, and create cherished memories with family and friends. In this sense, the concept of wealth extends beyond mere money, encompassing the invaluable richness of experiences made possible by a robust state of health. The vitality that comes with being in good health could open the doors to part-time work or volunteer opportunities, augmenting retirement income and enjoying the benefit of having a new purpose and passion. In essence, the correlation between health and wealth in retirement go hand in hand. I guess the moral of this video is to ENJOY your life to the fullest while you can and to make your retirement REMARKABLE! Retiree's often find themselves feeling tired due to a combination of factors. After years of working, the sudden shift to a more relaxed lifestyle can lead to a loss of structure and routine, resulting in fatigue. Additionally, the natural aging process may contribute to decreased energy levels. However, there are ways to overcome this tiredness and regain vitality. In this video, we'll explore some strategies that retirees can implement to combat fatigue and boost their energy levels. One common reason retirees experience tiredness is the lack of physical activity. During their working years, individuals may have been more active, either through job-related tasks or simply having a more active lifestyle. Upon retiring, the reduced activity level can lead to decreased stamina. Incorporating regular exercise into your routine, such as walking, cycling, or swimming, can help combat fatigue and increase energy levels. Sleep disturbances can also contribute to tiredness among retirees. Changes in daily routines, increased free time, or underlying health conditions can disrupt sleep patterns. Establishing a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and ensuring a comfortable sleep environment can help improve sleep quality. Adequate restful sleep is essential for recharging the body and combating fatigue. Social isolation and lack of social engagement can lead to feelings of tiredness and fatigue in retirees. After retiring, individuals may lose the social connections and interactions they had in the workplace. It's important to actively seek out social opportunities, such as joining clubs, attending community events, or participating in group activities. By fostering social connections, retirees can combat feelings of tiredness and gain emotional support, which can have a positive impact on overall energy levels.
