Hood discussed Sean Burke rebounded very nicely tonight in Houston, allowing 1 hit with 6 strikeouts over 5.2 innings, but walks continued to be a bit of an issue. Regardless, does it feel like he is the White Sox game 1 starter again?

Hour 1:  Kap & J. Hood discussed Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles was very honest about Kyler Gordon today, saying "I don't know" if he will play for the Bears this season. How many games do you expect Kyler to play? I'm firmly at zero.  Without Gordon, who was a key piece of Dennis Allen's scheme ostensibly, are you concerned the defense will hold the Bears back from repeating as division champions?

Any issues with the sanctity of the game when a position player comes to the mound in the 7th?  Cubs are now at 62 homers in the month of August their most in franchise history in a month, the most of any MLB team this season in a month, and just the 4th team in MLB history to hit 60+ homers in a calendar month, it's the second most in a single month of all time, and are the 4th team in the history of the game with multiple 8-HR games.

This Sox pitching staff feels like it is really in tatters right now, with about three starters total and a selection of matchup openers and middle relief arms, and it does beg the question with about 30 games to play: Do the Sox have the pitching to get across the finish line and hoist a division championship banner?

Hood discussed The Walk-Off Sox put on an entertaining, if stressful weekend set with the Mets, with two walk-off home runs in taking the series. They now have a 3.5 game lead in the division, and this thing is starting to feel like it's wrapped up.  Are we all set on what we need to see in the NL MVP race? PCA's turnaround from the first month and a half of the season has been completely unbelievable, and he is only staying hot. It has to be his award to lose, now.

Hood reacted to the Bears 2nd preseason game against the Bengals as the lose 27-9.  Caleb Williams on joint practice with Bengals.  NBA on NFL:  If Joe Burrow wants out of Cincinnati, what's the best trade destinations?  Is the secondary becoming a bigger concern than even the defensive line? All the space they were giving up on the 3rd and long was a bit surprising to me, and the injuries they are dealing with will bleed into the regular season.

Hour 2:   J. Hood & Tyler discussed the Chicago Cubs 74-54, second in the NL Central vs. Seattle Mariners 60-68, third in the AL West, Matthew Boyd 8-2, 4.02 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 68 strikeouts; Mariners: Emerson Hancock 7-7, 3.30 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 119 strikeouts. Seattle has a 60-68 record overall and a 33-29 record at home. Mariners' pitchers have a collective 4.01 ERA, which ranks seventh in the AL.  The teams meet Friday for the first time this season.  Tyler Aki was in for Kap.

Hour 1: Kap & J. Hood discussed the bad news from yesterday: Coby Bryant having surgery, out 4-6 months. After a week or two of 'how do you get by for a month of the season' it turns into 'how do you replace him for the whole season,' Who can step up in his place?  The practice yesterday was an important one in Head Coach Ben's eyes, often referred to it as a 'big' or 'important' practice and said a lot of it is about evidence for many of the players when speaking. Swift with another monster day, and the offense once again looked great. The LT battle continued.

Hood discussed MLB is back in action the White sox host the Reds; The sox are -168 favorites in the game (as of now), it's just the second time this season they've been favorites of -145 or greater, and their second most favored odds of the season. Pope day at Rate tomorrow; in the 5th inning, they'll be doing 'peace be with you' across the stadium.  Cubs in the nation's capital for three with the Nationals. These series are always "must-wins" when playing with an inferior team, but what are you looking for out of the Cubs to conclude the road trip?

Tyrique Stevenson battled through injury, Cam Lewis, Montez Sweat, Braxton Jones, Jaylon Jones, D'Marco Jackson, Terell Smith and of course Coby Bryant and Kyler Gordon all missing from practice. Silvy's Notebook: Downtown Dean update, Caleb Williams and Bears Camp News, should the Bears play Caleb Williams in the pre-season? Silvy was in for J. Hood. 

Hour 1:  Kap & Silvy discussed the Cubs do their job, take two of three from the Royals. Unfortunately, Brewers stay in lockstep, and the division lead stays at 5.5. Both cubs and brewers are 7-3 in their last 10. Is it that important for the Cubs to come back and win the division or is your focus getting to October and winning there? White Sox give their fan base a sigh of relief, take the last two against the Guards--Davis Martin was kind of saved by the rain…Rest of the AL Central is on their tails as the Tigers seem to finally be what everyone thought they might be in March. Do the Sox have a consistency problem, or is it just a stretch where they haven't played their best? Silvy was in for J. Hood.

Hood discussed Jon Heyman says that PCA isn't worthy of MVP of Ohtani, because 'Somehow WAR is overrating centerfielders' and does NOT go on to explain why WAR would be overrating centerfielders. White Sox and Red Sox; the Chase Meidroth game or the Chase Meidroth game that never was? Game just went to the 11th, we'll find out what happens, but we'll recap. Luis Castillo neither gave the sox innings, nor good pitching. Bullpen failed as well, bad night for sox pitching. How concerned are you with the pitching as a whole?

PCA is the hero in the 11th. The Cubs have the second most comeback wins in the league, one behind the Dbacks, and the most 9th inning comebacks with 7. Cubs went 2-1 vs. Gerrit Cole, Tarik Skubal, and Dylan Cease this week.

Hour 1:  Kap & J. Hood discussed the Cubs and Dodgers game 2. Skubal deals, but it's not enough; Cubs score two on him, get the best of the Dodgers' pen and take game 2, 5-1 (and the series for that matter). It felt like a playoff game, but the Cubs care more about this series than the Dodgers—it's going to be different in October if it happens. Still, was it a good measuring stick?

Hour 2: MLB Insider ESPN Jesse Rogers joined Kap & J. Hood with updates on the White Sox, Cubs and the latest MLB storylines.  J. Hood was solo and discussed the beef between Silvy and Shea.  What's beef?  Beef is when you need two gats to go to sleep, Beef is when your moms isn't safe up in the street, Beef is when I see you guaranteed to be in I-C-U.  Can they squash it? Kap joined the show via his hospital bed during a colonoscopy. 

Hour 1:  J. Hood was solo; he discussed MLB Trade Deadline; Thoughts on both the Cubs and Sox and their efforts...Both Hoyer and Getz on their moves.  The Cubs come away with Kevin Gausman, Clay Holmes, Ryan Zeferjahn, Braxton Garret, and Tyrone Taylor. Firstly, does the return warrant the total price? Secondly, Is this enough to push them over the edge to be serious competition to the Dodgers? Is the roster, assuming they can be a little healthier in October, and with the additions, now a roster that can win the World Series.  Kap was out today.

Would you draft him on your team? The Chicago Bulls hire Tiago Splitter as their next head coach. Splitter, formerly the interim head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, is taking over to lead a new era for the franchise following the departure of Billy Donovan.

Hood discussed the White Sox are now in 1st place in the AL Central beating the Braves again 2-1, the Cubs are so broken and may not be fixable!  Losing again to the Rockies.

They are all alone at the top, after yet another gutty win, and they took the series from the Braves... When will you start to believe they are really going to do this and hang a division banner? The Cubs Ace Shota Imanaga shoved at Coors Field, as we all expected. Yet, the Cubs have only mustered 1 run and even a win wouldn't be all that inspiring with how this offense continues to scuffle along..

Hood discussed Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is currently allowed to play after a Texas district judge granted him a temporary injunction against the NCAA, which had initially ruled him permanently ineligible for gambling. Sorsby admitted to placing thousands of wagers totaling at least $90,000, including bets on his own team.

The bad news is another SP is gone down; the good news is Cubs fans didn't have to watch Jameson Taillon pitch.

Hour 1: Kap & J. Hood remembers Chicago Bulls broadcaster Stacey King, who died Sunday at the age of 59, the team announced in a statement. A three-time NBA champion during the first half of the 1990s Bulls dynasty, King was a beloved member of the Bulls organization who provided color commentary for the team’s local broadcast affiliate moving from CSN Chicago to NBC Sports Chicago and finally CHSN for the last two decades.
