In the recent HBO Harry Potter trailer we got to see something we’ve never seen before- our first glimpse at Harry’s grandparents on his mother’s side. They appear standing alongside Vernon & Petunia Dursley in their wedding photo, with (presumably) Vernon’s parents on one side, and Petunia’s parents (aka, LILY’s parents) on the other. And with this new bit of info, it got me thinking- what DID happen to the rest of Harry’s family? Cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, second-cousins..What happened to them all? Were they casualties of war? And why did Harry HAVE to live with the Dursleys? Did he really not have one other blood relative? Not even..ONE? Let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to discuss 50 MORE events after the Harry Potter story came to an end..If you haven’t seen part 1 already, go and watch that after! Link in the pinned comment and description. Like I mentioned in my first video, each section covers multiple points which amounts to around 50 bits of info altogether. And as with the first video, these details come from canon sources like the epilogue, interviews, and extended Pottermore writings from J.K. Rowling. And if you’re more curious about what happened to specific individual characters after the war, then be sure to check out my other video: What Happened to These 100 Characters After the War. Anyway, let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
After the Battle of Hogwarts, the wizarding world was finally able to celebrate the defeat of Lord Voldemort and the end of the Second Wizarding War- ushering in a new era of peace. For the first time in years, witches and wizards were no longer living under open tyranny, and the institutions that had been corrupted by Voldemort’s regime could finally begin to recover. Hogwarts needed to be rebuilt, the Ministry needed to be reformed, and countless lives needed to be pieced back together. But while Voldemort’s defeat effectively marked the end of the series, it also created a large gap in the story. After the books and films ended, we’re really only given scattered pieces of information about what happened next. A painfully short epilogue shows us one moment nineteen years later, but outside of that, we sort of had to piece together what happened on our own through interviews and extended publications. Which is why today I’m going to be doing just that- finally piecing that information together and taking a closer (and more importantly, comprehensive) look at what Hermione’s life looked like after the Deathly Hallows. I don’t want to spoil anything in the intro, so let’s just dive in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be taking a look at everything that happened after the main Harry Potter story came to an end. After the Deathly Hallows, once Voldemort was defeated and the Battle of Hogwarts was over. Although this video is organized into larger sections, many of those sections actually contain multiple developments, so while we’ll be moving through this in a structured way, we’re really covering around 50 major post-war events in total. This is also just part 1 of a 2 part series as it was a bit much to cover it all at once. Most of these come directly from canon epilogues, interviews and extended Pottermore publications from Rowling. And if you’re more curious about what happened to specific individual characters after the war, then be sure to check out my other video: What Happened to These 100 Characters After the War. That one focuses much more on individual fates, whereas today we’re looking at the bigger picture of the wizarding world as a whole. Anway, let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. If magic can mend bones overnight, clean houses instantly, and teleport people across the country…Then why are some wizards still poor, hungry, unemployed, and struggling? Why can’t this spectacular (and regenerative) phenomenon with SO FEW limitations solve such basic everyday problems? Let’s dive in to it. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter theory. Now, if you've been anywhere near the internet lately you already know that a brand new Harry Potter series is coming to HBO. It's set to premiere Christmas 2026, with each of the seven books getting its own season. If you somehow missed all of this, quite frankly I’m amazed. The hype is still building and the teaser trailer alone has amassed a whopping 10 million views so far. But there's one thing I want to explore above everything else, and that’s whether or not we’ll get the proper Voldemort. The teaser showed us quite a bit of the series, and with a Dec release date it’s obviously fully underway, but one character we still know nothing about is Voldemort. The soul. You can split it, you can curse it, you can even anchor it to the living world through dark and forbidden magic. The soul, in the wizarding world, is more than just a metaphysical concept; it is a tangible, manipulable force that reflects the very essence of a person's being. But what happens it when someone moves on to the next plane of existence? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It’s been a couple of weeks now since the official release of the first teaser trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot and that means we’ve finally gotten a glimpse at what the show has to offer. No more speculation, it’s all there in plain sight (at least, a lot of it). If I’m honest I have to say that while the show will never (at least for me) match up to the original films, I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of what we saw. I have been cautiously optimistic throughout this entire process, and I think that the trailer (on the whole) made me feel a bit better about things. But one thing the internet cannot seem to reconcile is the new Snape casting. After the trailer dropped I did a number of videos breaking it down and pointing out small details, and the one comment I kept getting above ALL OTHERS was that I failed to mention black Snape- with a few even accusing me of strategically avoiding it. I didn’t bring it up because it’s obvious. I’ve also already made a number of dedicated videos on this topic and in all honesty it’s starting to feel a bit like kicking a dead horse. I’ve maintained throughout the entirety of the HBO reboot hype that I don’t necessarily agree with the casting, but it’s also not enough to put me off the show entirely. That’s just how I feel. He’s a good actor, but in all truthfulness I don’t think he fits the book description one iota. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Murder or KILLING splits the soul. This is reinforced time and time again. But despite this fact, we see it happen again and again throughout the Harry Potter series, and not just by the bad guys. It makes sense for Death Eaters to kill..It’s clear where their moral compass lies and I would presume that KILLING (and the subsequent impact on their soul) is the price they’re willing to pay to achieve their cause. But this topic also raises a much bigger question. Because if there are such serious consequences tied to taking a life… How do the good guys do it? Molly Weasley does it, Dumbledore does it, and even Neville Longbottom does it. Today we’ll be diving into all of that and more as we discuss the implications of MURDER in the Wizarding World- specifically, in the context of the ‘good’ guys. Learn more about your ad choices. Before we get into it I just want to acknowledge that I was a bit late to the party on watching Finding Harry as I had Easter plans PRIOR to the documentary even being announced, but I finally got around to watching it earlier today and wanted to do a quick breakdown for you guys. For those unaware ‘Finding Harry’ is a behind-the-scenes doc released on April 5 that takes a closer look at the inner workings of the HBO Harry Potter series. There’s a LOT to unpack so I’m going to try and keep it fairly high level and just focus on the most important stuff. Also, who else thought that Dominic (playing Harry) would have a Scottish accent? I guess I should have known by the name, but it still caught me off guard. I’m assuming he will tone it down for the show, but interested to see what happens there. Learn more about your ad choices. Snape is praised for inventing spells like Sectumsempra, Levicorpus and the Muffliato Charm. And during his lifetime, Voldemort pushed these limits even further- eclipsing him by creating entirely unique (and never before seen) pieces of magic like Unsupported Flight, the protection orb spell (the one he used on Nagini), and the infamous DADA curse. And Dumbledore! Well.... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we got our first UNEXPECTED glimpse at the trailer for the behind-the-scenes documentary centred on HBO’s Harry Potter reboot. The documentary, titled: Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic is set to debut on HBO April 5th. I already made a video announcing and discussing my THOUGHTS on the documentary in general, so if you haven’t seen that already go and check it out, HOWEVER- I didn’t really break it down…And there’s a LOT to unpack here. Also- quick note to my regular viewers- I know we’ve been covering a lot of HBO stuff lately- but rest assured I’ll be posting some regular lore videos shortly. Anyway, hidden inside this “BTS” trailer are some of the clearest looks we’ve had yet at the series. So let’s break it down (in NO particular order). Learn more about your ad choices. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. It’s safe to say the Harry Potter world is more alive than ever after the recent trailer drop for HBO’s new Harry Potter series. And since then, I’ve been working away on breakdowns and all kinds of other stuff. It was originally advertised as a ‘teaser’ so it was quite a pleasant surprise when we ended up getting 2 minutes, but that also means there’s a LOT to unpack. If you haven’t seen my trailer breakdown video, previous easter egg video, or video on HOW the trailer breaks canon, then check out one or all of those videos after this one. Anyway, like I just mentioned- I covered 10 easter eggs from the trailer in a previous video, but unsurprisingly, there are a bunch that I missed, so today I’m going to be covering some more. Some of these I got from your comments in the last video, and others I noticed independently. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. The first thing that I want to get out of the way here is that I DID actually enjoy the trailer. I don’t know what I expected, but it exceeded those expectations, so I just want to make it clear that these are OBJECTIVE criticisms. I’ve already done a breakdown video as well as a video full of some fun easter eggs, so make sure to check those out if you haven’t already. Alright, on to the things that were ‘wrong’. Before we go any further, I do feel the need to clarify what “wrong” actually means. Because not everything that’s different from the books is automatically wrong. There are a few different ways something can fall into this category. First, you have direct contradictions—things that are described a certain way in the books, and the show does completely different. Then we’ve got missing details—smaller things that are clearly established in the books, but just don’t show up (at least from what we can tell). And finally, we have additions—things that were never in the books at all, that the show has decided to introduce. Now, again—none of this necessarily ruins anything. Some of these changes might even end up being improvements. But if they’re going to advertise as book-accurate, we might as well hold them accountable by pointing out a couple of shortcomings. Again, on the whole I think they did a good job, but these are the things that stood out to me. Starting with… Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. So—I already did a full breakdown of the brand new HBO Harry Potter trailer. In that video I included my thoughts about the show, broke down each part of the trailer, and even included a few easter eggs. But after going back and watching it a few more times I realized that there are a TON of small details and even more Easter eggs that I missed I barely scratched the surface. And while I’m sure there are even MORE easter eggs than what I’ve been able to spot, let me present to you what I’ve got so far. If you see one that I missed, let me know down in the comment section below. In case you live under a rock, The HBO Harry Potter series just dropped its first trailer—and honestly…It gave us A LOT. I was expecting a 25 second long teaser trailer with a few frames, but we got a LOT more than that. It was announced just over a year ago now that Paapa Essiedu would be taking on the role of Snape in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series. Aaand it’s been a pretty controversial casting to say the least. In fact, it’s gotten to the point where you really can’t have a discussion about any aspect of the series without people bringing it up. And up until now, Essiedu himself hadn’t actually addressed the backlash. But in a recent interview, he finally spoke out about what he’s been experiencing. Today I want to talk about what he said…But also—why this situation has gotten so out of control. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
House elf slaves. Goblins BANNED from using wands. Werewolves shunned. Is it just me..Or are wizards, pretty awful? Voldemort is widely known for his strong hatred of MUGGLES, essentially believing that any human with non-magical, impure blood is effectively ‘beneath him’. But that prejudice extends beyond Muggles. Voldemort is so committed to this doctrine that he also rejects half-bloods—viewing them as lesser despite their magical ability. And it’s primarily due to this belief system that he set his sights on world domination, believing that the superior species- wizardkind- should rule over everyone else. And while he didn’t share this exact sentiment, Grindelwald believed something similar. While he didn’t outright HATE muggles, he did firmly believe that they were ‘inferior’ - necessitating his own belief that wizarding dominion would be for ‘the greater good’. And while this quote from his rally is somewhat giftwrapped in manipulation, it does mostly echo his philosophy: “You came because you crave something new. Something different. It is said that I hate le Non-magiques. The Muggle. The No-Maj. The Can't-Spells. I do not hate them; I do not. For I do not fight out of hatred. I believe that the Muggles are not lesser, but other. Not worthless, but of other value. Not disposable, but of different disposition. Magic blooms only in rare souls.” Anyway, my point is this: both of these men were hellbent on wizarding dominance because they genuinely believed that wizards were superior. It pushed them to do unspeakable things in the name of what they believed was “right”—and, more importantly, to convince others of the same. And while Voldemort was a little more crass in his presentation, and Grindelwald a little more refined and persuasive, the messaging was still the same. They were spreading hatred. In response, the wizarding world pushed back, condemned it, and assumed a distinctly holier-than-thou position. But what’s interesting about this is that Wizardkind, the same people who (with the exception of the Death Eaters and Grindelwald’s acolytes), fought against these prejudiced causes..Are a bunch of pompous hypocrites. And while the average witch or wizard LOVES to act morally superior to Voldemort—]when you actually look at their treatment of other beings, it becomes clear that in many ways- they are no better. By the time the Harry Potter story takes place, there’s already a lot of magic floating around the wizarding world. And in many instances, because this magic already exists when we’re introduced to it… It doesn’t really stand out. But the truth is that much of this magic only exists because of Voldemort. And if we consider that he died at just 71 years old, that means some of the most inventive magic in history was actually created pretty recently. Which is why today we’re going to be taking a look at all of the magic - good and evil- produced by Voldemort in his lifetime. I’ll start with the CONFIRMED spells, and then get into a few theories. Let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
I’ve done a lot of spell videos. The most powerful, the most dangerous, the hardest to cast, but one I’ve always wanted to make involves taking a look at the most… Messed up. Not the deadliest. Not the flashiest. But the kind of spell that makes you question why someone would even invent it in the first place. Fortunately I’ve gone down the spell rabbit hole pretty deep- I’ve even made an entire video covering every single spell in the Wizarding World. So I’ve got a pretty solid grasp on the full spellbook. Which is why today, we’re shining a light on the most messed up, demented spells the Wizarding World has to offer—spells that exist to inflict pain, humiliation, and sometimes just pure, senseless suffering. Imagine this: You’re losing the war. Your followers are dropping off like flies. And one by one, the objects that keep you alive—your Horcruxes—are being destroyed. Your NOLONGER-so-secret key to eternal life…is failing. Now—correct me if I’m wrong—but there seems to be a pretty obvious solution here… Just make…more. So…Why didn’t he? Why didn’t Voldemort, the moment he realized his soul fragments were being destroyed, simply create more Horcruxes? Two more? Four more? Forty more? He knew the magic, and he knew the consequences. So what stood in his way? Today we’ll be diving into all of this and MORE as we unpack the convoluted topic of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Global Wizarding War. The First Wizarding War. The Goblin Rebellions. The Second Wizarding War. These are all conflicts most Harry Potter fans are familiar with. But what if I told you that there was another war in Hary Potter history (that’s established in canon, I might add) that almost nobody talks about? The show’s being made too soon. The casting’s all wrong. The writers haven’t read the books. These are just a few of the overwhelming number of controversies surrounding the new HBO series. Today I want to give you guys my honest opinion. Right now there’s a lot of information floating around—some facts, some opinions—but whichever way you slice it, the fandom is obviously pretty divided. Spoiler alert before we start: Harry ends up BEATING Voldemort. Also please Subscribe I’m begging you Anyway, with that out of the way: I don’t think many would argue that the Harry Potter novels give our dearest Harry ‘Plot Armour’. It feels like no matter what he does, or where he ends up, he always has the upper hand over Voldemort. I get it, Harry can’t just die- he’s the main character, but still- sometimes it feels like EVERYTHING is going against him but he STILL comes out on top. In particular, over Voldemort. When you actually go back through the books, there are several points where the Dark Lord is winning. He has control. He has the numbers. He has the advantage. And then - almost inexplicably- he gives it away. Which is exactly why today I want to examine the books with a little more scrutiny, and extract 5 very plausible ways that Voldemort could have actually WON. These aren’t far-fetched explanations or over-the-top theories, these are very real, and most importantly very CANON-CONSISTENT moments where a single decision would have changed the entire outcome of the war. In the world of Harry Potter there are a few witches and wizards that are just..A cut above the rest. You know who I’m talking about.. Dumbledore Grindelwald Voldemort And while they are all undeniably UNIQUE in a multitude of ways, what truly sets them apart from the rest is their IMMENSE magical power The ultimate currency among witches and wizards. In a past video I discussed WHY I think that these powerful few ARE the way that they are..Whether it’s attributed to their natural ability, their intelligence, their drive, or in some cases - the trauma that shaped them. But regardless of how they achieved it, these witches and wizards reached the very peak of the magical spectrum. Which is why today I want to approach this from a slightly different angle- taking a closer look at the witches and wizards who never reached their full potential. To clarify, I’m talking about those who COULD HAVE been among the most powerful, but fell short for some reason. Full transparency: When I came up with this topic I had NO IDEA what the final list was going to look like. Of course a few names popped in to my head, but constructing a final 5 wasn’t an easy task as there are SO MANY deserving characters. I think at least one of them will be a surprise. I’m also sure that your opinions will vary from mine, so comment YOUR TOP 5 down below before we start. Anyway, let’s dive in to it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This is going to be a bit of a world shatterer. Wouldn’t it be a cruel and tragic twist if the one witch whose love was powerful enough to defeat Voldemort… Was herself the victim of a love potion? And that the purest act of love in the entire wizarding world came from someone who never truly understood her love for her own husband? What if, beneath the surface of their famous love story, there lurked something much more…Sinister? What if James, desperate to win over the witch who repeatedly rejected him, resorted to the most drastic — and frankly, pathetic — of measures? Join me today as we unpeel the difficult reality surrounding one of the Wizarding World’s most well-known love stories, as well as the far reaching implications it may have caused. A while back I made a video called ‘Why Didn't Voldemort Try to RECRUIT Grindelwald?’, and basically- the focus of that video was why Voldemort never made any attempts to recruit an imprisoned Grindelwald at Nurmengard. On both occasions that Voldemort rose to power, Grindelwald was sitting in a locked tower, so it always felt a bit peculiar to me that he wouldn’t have tried to recruit the most powerful resource at his disposal..Especially at times when things weren’t looking particularly good for him. Ultimately, I concluded that the two men were simply too different to ever form a real alliance — at least at this stage in each of their lives. Voldemort never sought Grindelwald’s help because he didn’t believe he needed it. By the time he rose to power, he saw himself as the apex of magical evolution—immortal, unstoppable, and unrivaled. The very idea of reaching out to another powerful dark wizard, particularly one who had already been publicly defeated, would have felt beneath him. His obsession with control and dominance also wouldn’t have left any room for shared power or rival influence. And the truth here is that Grindelwald, despite having been beaten decades prior, still carried influence—and it’s entirely possible that his name, his ideology, and his ability to inspire loyalty could have easily disrupted the fragile obedience Voldemort maintained through fear. To recruit Grindelwald would be to risk dissent within his ranks and this was simply not the kind of risk that Voldemort would have been willing to take But I think that even IF Voldemort had reached out, Grindelwald would have refused. The man we see in Nurmengard is no longer the revolutionary of his youth. He is reflective, burdened by the weight of his past, and—at least in part—repentant. Grindelwald may have been a dark wizard, but he was also a thinker, and most importantly a man with a cause—however flawed. I fully stand behind the idea that an old Voldemort and an old Grindelwald just wouldn’t have worked out. But in today’s video, I want to explore a different timeline that I FEEL has entirely different dynamics, one in which Grindelwald, at the height of his power, recruited a young Tom Riddle. I think this arrangement is far more likely, far more plausible and far more dangerous. I’d also like to put forth a bold statement: the version of Voldemort that we got in the existing timeline Is NOT the most dangerous version. Let’s dive in to it. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. In today’s video we’ll be briefly touching on a few bits of news related to the much-anticipated HBO Harry Potter TV Series. If you don’t know what this show is by now then I don’t really know what to say..Other than it’s impressive that you’ve managed to avoid it somehow. The show has been a talking point on this channel for years now — and what once felt like a far-fetched rumor has slowly become an undeniable reality. And in the most recent update from HBO’s chairman Casey Bloys, it looks like we’ve even got a fairly definitive release date. “We’ve been saying 2027, I would say, to narrow it down to some extent, early 2027. And now you’re going to ask, does that mean January, February, March, April, that we’re not ready to say. I’ll say early 2027.“ It’s always to tell hard how ‘firm’ these release dates given to us by TV execs truly are, but in the context of the Harry Potter show, this does feel very ‘real’ as they’ve only been able to narrow it down further as time goes on. It feels weird to say, but I guess that means the show is coming out in about a year. To get even more excited, let’s take a look at some of the other updates on the show. Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Over the many years that I’ve done YouTube, I see variations of the same comment pop up on my videos all the time — “Where does all this extra information come from?” And to be honest, this is a fair thing to ask, because very often I go BEYOND the 7 books and pull information from things like extended publications, interviews and most pertinent to today’s video: TWEETS from JK Rowling herself. Some of these secondary sources are an absolute goldmine for digging deeper into Potter lore, and while they sometimes just reveal fairly innocuous things like character birthdays… There’s also lots of good stuff in there that will change not just how you see a character, but also how you interpret major moments in the story. And because a lot of these factoids came from quick, casual replies Rowling posted on Twitter…They would have been pretty easy to miss. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In my last video I discussed how the Harry Potter film franchise effectively butchered Voldemort’s character by omitting huge portions of his backstory. I then went on to argue that WITHOUT these character tidbits (well, tidbits if they were massive..what’s the MASSIVE version of a tidbit?) it’s nearly impossible to properly understand Voldemort’s motivations as a villain. Why is he obsessed with immortality? Who were his parents? Why does he feel like he’s got so much to prove? In the films, Voldemort is essentially reduced to “he’s evil… because he’s evil.” Scary dark wizard do bad thing. And while this was certainly less than ideal, we do still get the gist of his—albeit much flatter—character. But for a character like Dumbledore, who has far more moral ambiguity (especially in his earlier years) the omission of these foundational pieces of his story becomes even more problematic. And like Voldemort, Dumbledore’s origins are BARELY touched on in the films. From the films and the films alone we SORT OF get that he’s got some brother drama, some father drama, some mother drama and even some sister drama (if potentially killing her counts as that). But we never see how those events shaped him in to the wise old headmaster of present day. We never see the guilt. The fear of power. The self-imposed restraint that defines who Dumbledore becomes. And perhaps most importantly, his relationship with Grindelwald—the single most consequential relationship of his life—is almost entirely omitted. Today we’ll be diving into territory that the films DIDN’T cover and taking a closer look at the Albus Dumbledore film fans never got the chance to see. Learn more about your ad choices. Bold statement here, but if you never read the books- then I’m not sure you understand Voldemort’s character as well as you might think. Because interestingly, despite Voldemort being the primary antagonist in the books and films, as well as arguably the second most important character (next to Harry, of course)- a lot of his origin story actually never made it onto the big screen. Sure, we get some bits and pieces as the films progress, and we get a few flashbacks in the Half-Blood Prince, but honestly, if I hadn’t read the books- I really don’t think that I would have properly understood many of the key components that relate back to his family … In The Half-Blood Prince novel especially, Dumbledore spends a significant amount of time guiding Harry through Tom Riddle’s past using Pensieve memories. They are the blueprint for understanding Voldemort—how he thinks, what he values, and why he made the choices he did. But in the movie adaptation, most of these memories never appear. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
A couple of months ago I made a video discussing the fate of Voldemort’s AFTER his final defeat in the Deathly Hallows. And although Voldemort’s death looks fairly different from book to film- DISINTEGRATING into a thousand pieces in the films and simply falling to the ground with mundane finality in the books- one thing remained the same: Voldemort’s soul was completely and utterly destroyed. And unquestionably this was due to his pursuit of Horcruxes. By repeatedly tearing his soul apart—splitting it again and again in the name of immortality—Voldemort ensured that when death finally came for him, there was simply nothing whole left to survive it. And his soul, repeatedly mutilated beyond recognition, was incapable of moving on- forcing him to remain a broken fragment trapped in a state of eternal limbo. But here’s the thing.. Although creating Horcruxes is a sure fire way to destroy the state of your soul, it’s important to remember that it’s not the ONLY way. And this brings into the question the fate of some of the other characters in the series.. In particular, a character with a fairly dubious past: Albus Dumbledore. Learn more about your ad choices. What if Snape Never Switched Sides? This one’s going to be a doozy. Severus Snape is perhaps one of the most important characters in the Harry Potter series. He was the man who first delivered the prophecy to Voldemort. He was the man trusted with secrets powerful enough to decide the outcome of the war. He was the man who protected the son of the woman he loved, even when that boy hated him. And perhaps most importantly, he was the man who chose the mission over redemption, knowing history would never forgive him. In fact, Snape’s role in Harry Potter is so deep that it’s hard to imagine the story without him. Neatly every driving plot point and every major turning moment hinges on Snape’s involvement in some way, shape, or form. And all of this just makes the question of him NEVER switching sides even more fascinating. Because if Severus Snape never made that choice—if he never turned against Voldemort—then the story we know simply couldn’t exist. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
A while back I released ‘7 Major Events BEFORE The Harry Potter Story Started’ parts 1 and 2- segments of a series where I discuss events that took place PRIOR to the books and films. Harry Potter lore is WAY deeper than some people realize (maybe not tolkien level deep, but that’s asking a lot), so today we’re going to be winding the clocks back once again and exploring 7 more significant events in Harry Potter canon. The last video left us in the early parts of the 16th century, so today we’ll be picking things up in the latter half. Let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. Running a Harry Potter channel, I get to see a LOT of opinions. And I mean A LOT. Which means that at any given moment, I’ve got a pretty good idea of where the fandom sits on a particular issue. For example: The Cursed Child is FAIRLY universally hated among Harry Potter purists, enjoyable to casuals, and probably the best thing they’ve ever seen to people unfamiliar with the story altogether. OF COURSE there’s nuance here, as I for example can appreciate the Cursed Child as a separate entity, but basically my point is this: I’ve got a fairly clear understanding of the landscape. And in a time when (let’s be honest) fan expectations for the Harry Potter TV Show are a little glim, it looks we’ve been delivered a great equalizer- something that will appease pretty much anyone that’s been keeping up with the show’s progress. Peter Pettigrew is remembered..Almost exclusively as a coward and a traitor. A man who betrayed his closest friends, sold out an innocent family, and aligned himself with Voldemort purely out of fear. And after Voldemort’s first downfall, he faked his own death, framed a childhood friend for his crimes, and spent over a decade hiding in the shadows—quite literally—rather than face the consequences of his choices. And yet… Peter Pettigrew was sorted into Gryffindor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
"Did you know, sir? Then?..." "Did I know that I had just met the most dangerous Dark wizard of all-time? No." These were the words exchanged by Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore after taking a glance in to the Pensieve and observing Dumbledore’s first encounter with a young Tom Riddle. And it’s these words that clarify WHY Dumbledore saved Tom, invited him to Hogwarts, and gave him a magical education. Because you see, Dumbledore, despite a few signs here and there, could never have known that this young troubled boy would go on to cause so much death and destruction. I mean, how could he? But the exchange does make me wonder: what would have happened IF Dumbledore HAD known what young Tom Riddle’s TRUE capabilities were? What if he knew just how many lives he’d claim, and how much destruction he’d cause? Would things have been different? Would he have attended Hogwarts? Just how different would the magical world have been had Dumbledore obtained that singular (albeit, MASSIVE) piece of information. Today we’re going to be answering all of that and more as we discuss a scenario in which Dumbledore WAS aware of Voldemort’s true capabilities. Learn more about your ad choices. “How come you’re not in Ravenclaw?” he demanded, staring at Hermione with something close to wonder. “With brains like yours?” Ravenclaw student Terry Boot asks Hermione this directly in Order of the Phoenix, during the DA’s first meeting in the Hog’s Head. And, unsurprisingly, Terry Boot is not the only person to have ever thought about this. In fact, since the Harry Potter books first came out, one of the most pervasive questions surrounding the series is WHY Hermione Granger, one of Hogwarts’ smartest students, WASN’T sorted into its most studious house. Today we’re going to be tackling a question that has long divided fans- Was Hermione Granger truly a Gryffindor— or was she actually meant for Ravenclaw? Learn more about your ad choices. What if I told you that there was a witch from Harry Potter lore that, despite possessing levels of power similar to the founders of Hogwarts..No one really talks about. This witch, known more commonly for her title as a ‘sorceress’ was known for her extraordinary magical abilities—so much so that her name became legend, even beyond the wizarding world. Her mastery over spells and enchantments rivaled that of the most powerful sorcerers in history, yet for some reason, she remains overlooked in most discussions of magic. But who was this witch? And why has her legacy faded into obscurity? Today we’ll be discussing all of that and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
What if Muggles KNEW about magic? About witches, wizards, wands, spells and flying broomsticks. And what would they say if they knew that some of these magical folk could teleport across the country in seconds… erase memories with a flick of the wrist… and kill without leaving a trace? Today we’ll be answering a question that the foundation of the Wizarding World was built to avoid: What would happen if the muggles found out about magic? Let’s dive in to it. Today we’ve got a bit of an interesting one. Earlier this year, I made two separate videos—one ranking the most powerful wizards, and the other ranking the most powerful witches. In those videos, I covered ten of each. And today, just over 10 months later, we’re going to pitting them against each other and taking a closer look at what the top 20 most powerful looks like..When both groups are ranked together. Before you watch, make sure to comment YOUR top 20 down below, then check back at the end to see how your list differed from mine. It took some editing trickery to mesh this all together, so forgive me if anything’s a little off. Anyway, let’s dive in to it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
If we go strictly by canon, then the only elves that we’re ever made privy to in the Harry Potter universe are house-elves—beings bound to magical servitude, owned by wizarding families, and expected to obey without question. But in one of my previous videos—The History of House-Elves—I introduced the idea that house-elves are likely not a natural, original species at all, but rather the end result of something that happened to elves long ago. I think that there was a time when elves were not bound to masters… A time when they existed independently, outside of wizarding households. And while the books never confirm this outright, the broader context of the Wizarding World makes the idea surprisingly reasonable. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This video is one part of a multi-part series. We left part 1 at the conclusion of the battle of the astronomy tower. Except, in this version of events... things went very differently. Dumbledore’s death was one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire series, a turning point that shattered the illusion of safety Harry had always relied on. But not only that, it represented a distinct shift in innocence in the series- a moment that made it clear that no one, not even the greatest wizard alive, was beyond Voldemort’s reach. It also left things looking pretty bleak for the good guys, with Death Eaters taking over Hogwarts, Voldemort’s power growing, and Harry running out of options. And while Dumbledore’s death doesn’t actually happen until the Half-Blood Prince, what many fans may not realize is that it was hinted at as early as Prisoner of Azkaban. Today we’re talking about the Death of Albus Dumbledore—and what might have happened if he’d survived the night atop the Astronomy Tower. In the past I made a wand documentary that covered all of the wand materials- woods, cores, the lot. I even discussed wand FLEXIBILITY and SIZE, and how those things can be indicative of the type of wizard wielding the wand. But what I strangely never touched on…Was wand CREATION. Or rather, construction. How are wands actually..Made? And what makes this question increasingly interesting is just how few wandmakers there are in the Wizarding World. Sure, it’s possible that we only see a handful of wandmakers in the series, but among the ones we do encounter, it almost feels as though they hold a kind of monopoly. And if they’re truly skilled enough to command that level of dominance, then it only makes me even more curious about what exactly it is they’re doing behind the scenes. Today we’ll be discussing the enigmatic process of WAND making, and (hopefully) unpacking what it is that makes wandmakers like Ollivander so special. Let’s dive in to it. It’s that time again. NEWS. Sorry for the voice, I’m sick. There’s been lots going on in the Wizarding World as of late, and that’s an exciting prospect because for a little while the Harry Potter buzz seemed to have died off a bit. Did it die? Absolutely not. But am I excited that there’s some new LIFE being injected into it across a number of different areas? Absolutely. You probably remember Sirius Black’s death in Order of the Phoenix—a tragic moment amidst the Battle of the Department of Mysteries that seemed to instantly shift the entire tone of the story. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. When a young witch or wizard has no understanding of magic, they rely entirely on the way that it’s taught to them. They copy sounds. They mimic gestures, and they perform rituals they barely understand. At Hogwarts, students mostly imitate what their professors demonstrate, and long before that, in magical homes, young witches and wizards often pick up bits of magic just by watching their parents. And by doing these things, they learn the shape of magic, but not the rules beneath it. They don’t know why a wand must move a certain way, or why emotion matters just as much as language. They’re taught how to do magic, but it’s rarely explained why it works. But here’s the thing about magic: it’s wildly unpredictable. It isn’t patient with mistakes, and it certainly doesn’t forgive misunderstandings. Which means that sometimes, when the spell isn’t quite right- it doesn’t just NOT WORK- it actively pushes back. And when magic pushes back, there are consequences. Of course, not every spell fits this criteria. Some spells will just fizzle out or do nothing at all. But the focus of today’s video will be on the spells that DO push back- sometimes with DIRE..Even HORRIFIC consequences. Let’s dive into it. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Many..In fact, most corners of the Harry Potter fandom are wholesome, creative, and endlessly imaginative… …but there’s one corner — a slightly strange, often bewildering corner — that sometimes even longtime fans tiptoe around. It’s a world where canon, logic, ethics and timelines are seemingly out the window. A world where a simple pairing can ignite hundred-page debates and some truly unhinged works of fanfiction. And at the very center of this storm lies one pairing so infamous, so controversial, so chronically discussed that even mentioning it makes longtime fans flinch. When Voldemort dies in the films, he disintegrates into thousands of pieces and blows away in the wind. And when he dies in the books, his body falls with a mundane finality—revealing something far more fitting. In the end, there is nothing grand or mythic about his death at all. He simply… dies. But in the end, neither depiction of his death answers the real question. His body might fall or crumble, but that tells us nothing about what truly became of him. Not the man, not the flesh… but the part he tried hardest to protect. The part he mutilated in his quest for immortality. His soul. Today we’re going to be unpacking this further and taking a closer look at what may have happened to the most mutilated soul in wizarding history. We know Voldemort pursued one of the Deathly Hallows — the Elder Wand — said to be the most powerful wand in all of existence. And the reasons for that seem fairly self-explanatory. Voldemort craved power, and the wand would have been the perfect tool he needed for domination, supremacy, control. And from the moment he became aware of the wand’s existence, his pursuit was relentless. To Voldemort, it was the weapon that would finally secure his victory, the final piece needed to end the boy who lived. But what’s interesting is that he stopped there. The Elder Wand was just one of the three Deathly Hallows — a triad of objects that, when united, were said to make their possessor the Master of Death. And if Voldemort feared death more than anyone who ever lived… If he built his entire life around conquering mortality… Then why didn’t he go after the other Hallows? Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. It’s been nearly a decade and a half since the Harry Potter film saga came to an end. And now, for the first time in ages, we’ve got a show on the horizon- set to debut sometime in 2027. But since the announcement of the show last year, we’ve been through an absolute whirlwind of new information. And that whirlwind doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. From casting updates to production rumors, every tiny development surrounding the show seems to set the fandom alight with speculation. And one particular report that came out last week seems to suggest that the show will have something never before seen in a Harry Potter production See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. There are few witches in the wizarding world who can silence a room quite like Rita Skeeter. Not with a curse — but with a quill. With a quick scribble from her Quick-Quotes Quill, reputations trembled. Careers ended. Truth blurred. And somewhere, behind a thick layer of lipstick and lime-green fingernails, Rita Skeeter smiled with satisfaction. Hermione was certainly never shy in sharing what she thought of her: “You horrible woman. You don’t care, do you? Anything for a story, and anyone will do, won’t they?” But before the headlines, before The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore and her smear campaigns against Harry Potter..Who WAS Rita Skeeter? How did an ambitious Hogwarts student turn into the most reviled journalist of her age? Today we’ll dive in to all of that (AND MORE) as we look at the Life and Lies of Rita Skeeter. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing how ordinary Muggles react when they find out that their child is magical. The majority of Muggle-born witches and wizards do not discover that they are magical until they are invited to come study magic as a child. In the United Kingdom, this momentous occasion takes place the year of a child’s eleventh birthday by way of mail. Each young witch or wizard receives their letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sometime over the summer months before the start of term in the fall. In the case of Muggleborns, Hogwarts dispatches a member of staff to travel to the home of said muggle-born student so that the letter can be properly introduced and explained. The trembling stutter of a nervous man. A turban concealing a horrifying secret. And behind it all: the face of the Dark Lord himself. Quirinus Quirrell is often remembered as the timid, stuttering Defence Against the Dark Arts professor from Harry Potter’s first year at Hogwarts. Nervous, soft-spoken, and constantly hiding behind that signature purple turban — he appeared (at least at first) to be one of the least threatening figures Harry could have encountered. But as we later find out, appearances can be deceiving. By the time Quirrell stood in front of Harry in the Great Hall, the man he once was had already begun to disappear. His brilliant mind, once shaped by academic curiosity, had been twisted by ambition and fear. And in pursuit of recognition he didn’t believe he could achieve on his own, he turned to the darkest source of power imaginable. During the 1991–92 school year, Quirrell became one of the most consequential figures in modern wizarding history — not because of who he was, but because of who he allowed himself to serve. Today, we’re going to explore the full life of Quirinus Quirrell — from his overlooked beginnings as a brilliant Ravenclaw scholar, to the fateful journey that led him into Voldemort’s grasp, and the horrifying transformation that followed. The show hasn't even aired yet, but between unexpected casting choices, creative reinterpretations, and the ongoing debate over J.K. Rowling’s involvement, the series has already managed to polarize the Harry Potter fandom — especially amid rumors of a gender-swapped Dark Lord and questions about how “faithful” this adaptation will actually be. Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In today’s video, we’re exploring a theory that challenges one of the series’ core assumptions: the belief that Albus Dumbledore was the Elder Wand’s rightful owner. Because according to some fans — and a closer reading of the events themselves — the wand’s true allegiance may not have been with Dumbledore at all. If we trace the origins of the most powerful magical artifacts in history — the Deathly Hallows — the trail always leads back to one family: the Peverells. Three brothers whose story exists somewhere between myth and memory — remembered in children’s tales, but also immortalized in wizarding history. To begin to unravel their story, we have to separate myth from memory — and uncover the truth buried beneath a thousand years of legend. And there’s no better place to start than the story every wizard knows by heart — first written down by Beedle the Bard in the fifteenth century: The Tale of the Three Brothers. Before he was a name whispered in fear — before Nurmengard, before the Elder Wand, before Dumbledore — there was simply a boy. A brilliant, golden-haired boy, born in Eastern Europe in the late nineteenth century — whose name was Gellert Grindelwald. Little is recorded about Grindelwald’s family or childhood, but what fragments survive describe a wizard of exceptional promise from the very beginning. His ancestry is believed to have been of northern European descent, possibly linked to an old wizarding line with strong magical blood. Whether or not that family shared his views, however, is another question entirely. From a young age, Grindelwald displayed a kind of brilliance that unsettled those around him. He was curious about everything — but especially the boundaries of magic. Most children who show magical ability experiment with simple enchantments or charms. Grindelwald experimented with control — the art of bending will, power, and fate to his own design. Even as a boy, he possessed what Dumbledore would later call “a dangerous gift, the power to make others see what he wanted them to see, to make his lies sound like truth.” See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. In the past, I made a couple of videos covering WHAT HAPPENS to all of the major Harry Potter characters AFTER the books end. In fact, one such video covers the fates of 100 separate characters- exploring what they got up to when Voldemort was defeated and the dust had settled at Hogwarts. But while making those videos, there were a number of characters I encountered whose fates (in the books, films, or both) were left…Pretty unclear. In some instances Rowling left THREADS of what may or may not have happened to them, but overall- their ultimate destinies remain a mystery. Today we’re picking up right where we left off — looking at more familiar faces and uncovering what J.K. Rowling has revealed (or hinted at) about their fates in a post-Voldemort era. The title of Master of Death is whispered in the wizarding world with awe and fear. It’s said to belong to whoever unites the three Deathly Hallows — the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility — a collection of artifacts so legendary that even the most brilliant witches and wizards have spent lifetimes chasing them. To hold all three is to hold power beyond measure: the unbeatable wand, the ability to summon the dead, and the means to evade death itself. And ever since Death (or perhaps an unknown powerful wizard) created these artifacts..Few have ever come close to possessing all three. But there is one wizard in particular who WAS close.. Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory When Warner Bros. announced that the Harry Potter series would be rebooted as a full HBO production, fans were promised something bold: a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven books. More detail, more nuance, more of the cut material the films couldn’t fit. And since it’s announcement, the series has been making headlines on a regular basis, with the latest rumor being the most controversial yet. And it all began with Daniel Richtman, a well-known Hollywood scooper, who recently reported that HBO’s Harry Potter production is auditioning both men and women for the role of Voldemort. “They’re auditioning both men and women for Voldemort so it’s possible we could see a female Voldemort in the Harry Potter series!” You heard that right: Lord Voldemort, the Dark Lord himself, might be played by a woman. When a new student arrives at Hogwarts for the first time, one of the first things they’ll experience is the Sorting Ceremony- a right of passage in which you are allocated to one of the Four Hogwarts Houses- Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. And on some level, your House is meant to define the type of person that you are. Gryffindors are brave. Hufflepuffs are loyal. Ravenclaws are smart, and Slytherins are ambitious. At least…that’s what everybody says. But where do these ideas actually come from? Today, we’ll be taking a look at the work that Barty Crouch Jr. did in his capacity as Hogwart’s Defense Against the Darks Arts Professor during Harry’s fourth year at school—and whether or not it was actually a better job than the REAL Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody could have done. Before we dive in, I will admit that this may not be the…uhh…HOTTEST take. Across the Internet, from reddit to Facebook, fans of the Wizarding World have posted similar questions and had discussions about this very topic. And yet, I still think it worth our time in analyzing…because despite all that we feel we may know of Alastor Moody, the most amount of time spent with this character is in The Goblet of Fire…and, well, for most of that book/movie, it’s not really him that we’re spending time with but a Death Eater in disguise. As a result, fans of the series may FEEL like they know Mad-Eye…but it was actually Barty Crouch Jr. who they got to know. A creature that can’t be reasoned with, can’t be bribed, and whose presence alone makes human beings relive their worst moments. Alright, now imagine THOUSANDS of them. Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Over the years I’ve done a few videos taking a look at major differences between the book and film versions of different characters, but the focal point in the past has always been more of a “spot the difference” angle. This time, the angle is different, and this video will serve as the first in a series of videos examining adaptation injustices: not just what was altered, but who got shortchanged and how those choices warped the character that we grew to love on the page. Today, I’m making the case that the films failed Ron Weasley—consistently sanding off his courage, wit, and heart until only a comic outline remained. Basically, Ron got nerfed. Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. It’s been an exciting week for Harry Potter-in particular the upcoming show, with a wave of new updates hitting the internet. In today’s video, we’ll be breaking it all down — from comments by Chris Columbus, director of the original film series, to intriguing remarks from the show’s producer Mark Mylod, plus a first look at the newly-cast Weasley family, and even some fresh set leaks from the past 48 hours. Albus Percival Wulfric BRIAN Dumbledore is perhaps the greatest Wizard in history. This much is the truth, and it’s also something that even a stubborn dark wizard like Voldemort would have to admit (although perhaps not openly). Far from a one trick pony, by the time Dumbledore reached the tender age of 115 he had mastered nearly every branch of magic—from charms and transfiguration to potions, alchemy, and beyond. And this mastery wasn’t just theoretical—it was proven time and time again in the real world. In 1945 he famously defeated Gellert Grindelwald, ending one of the darkest chapters in wizarding history and claiming the Elder Wand in the process. And many decades later, Dumbledore duelled the next big dark Wizard with ease- effortlessly standing toe to toe with Voldemort in the MInistry atrium in 1996. But Dumbledore’s brilliance extended far beyond combat—he was a skilled Legilimens and Occlumens, capable of reading and shielding minds; a master of wandless and nonverbal casting, performing feats most wizards wouldn’t dare attempt; and a gifted inventor, credited with magical creations like the Deluminator. He even collaborated with Nicolas Flamel, gaining insights into the mysteries of alchemy. Time and again, Dumbledore demonstrated that his power wasn’t rooted in a single specialty but in a boundless command of magic itself. Which begs the question: how did he become such a beacon of knowledge and power? And even more specifically- who taught the man that knew everything? Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re diving into part 2 of the moments in the Harry Potter universe that everyone remembers… but remembers wrong- a major contributor to this being the FILMS. In adapting the books to the big screen, the filmmakers took plenty of creative liberties...Personalities were altered, entirely new scenes were invented, character roles were switched and whole sections of the books were simply cut And over time, some of these changes have blurred the lines between book and film so much that, for many fans, they’ve fused into a single version of the story. One of the strangest things about Lavender Brown’s character is that she was portrayed by not one, not two, but three different actresses over the course of the films — changing between Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and finally Half-Blood Prince. But what’s the reason behind all of this? Why was she played by 3 different people? By the time we’ve finished Prisoner of Azkaban we’re meant to believe that Sirius Black was INNOCENT of the crimes for which he was accused. For those who might be a little fuzzy on the details, Sirius wasn’t just some random fugitive — he was Harry’s godfather, a loyal member of the Order of the Phoenix, and once the closest friend of Harry’s father, James Potter. And as we get closer to the end of the book/film, it’s finally revealed to Harry that the true traitor was Peter Pettigrew, not Sirius. It was Pettigrew who had betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort. It was Pettigrew who had faked his own death. And it was Pettigrew who had framed Sirius for the murder of twelve Muggles in broad daylight. Before we as readers — or Harry — learned the truth, the version of Sirius we were given was that of a dangerous, half-mad fugitive: the first wizard to ever escape from Azkaban, a man believed to have murdered thirteen people with a single curse, and someone whose very name could strike fear into the Wizarding population. And after these initial revelations of Sirius’ innocence come to light, Harry’s relationship with Sirius blossoms almost overnight — I’d argue, a little too quickly. In a matter of pages, Sirius goes from “the man who betrayed my parents” to “the godfather I never had,” with Harry seemingly almost immediately ready to drop the Dursleys behind and go and live with him (although we know, he couldn’t do that). But here’s my question: if Sirius was truly innocent, why didn’t he act like it? Why did so many of his choices — from the moment of his arrest to his escape and eventual return — seem to confirm the image of a dangerous, unstable man? If we consider the darkest wizards in history, two names rise above the rest: Gellert Grindelwald and Lord Voldemort. And depending on the time period, both of these dark wizards brought the wizarding world to its knees at one point or another—Grindelwald through manipulation and ideology, Voldemort through fear and destruction. Both men were brilliant, ruthless, and obsessed with power, and while both of their tyrannical regimes eventually fell at the hands of the good guys, I do often wonder what could have happened if they had teamed up. I mean..Voldemort AND Grindelwald..Together? That’s probably an unstoppable duo, even for team Dumbledore. In the Wizarding World, spells can be cast in many different ways. With wands. Without wands. Verbally. Nonverbally. We also know that things like wand loyalty can affect how well a witch or wizard is able to channel his or her magic. And depending on which combination of these things a wizard uses- nonverbal with a wand, verbal without a wand, verbal with a wand etc. I imagine that we’re going to see some pretty varied results. So my question today is: Does speaking the spell out loud actually make it stronger? And while we’re at it, I’ll also be diving into whether magic performed with a wand is inherently more powerful than wandless casting. Let’s dive in to it. Today we’re discussing Harry Potter, Lord Voldemort, and the final installment of the Deathly Hallows. In my one of my previous videos, I discussed WHY Harry’s Expelliarmus beat Voldemort’s Avada Kedavra during both the battle in the graveyard as well as during the battle of Hogwarts. But one question that I noticed lingering in the comments was - why did Harry never feel pain from Voldemort’s Cruciatus Curse? Why was Harry also able to resist..CRUCIO? An unforgivable curse. While Voldemort, ethics aside, had one of the greatest minds the Wizarding World had ever seen…He also had many flaws. He was arrogant, shortsighted, and unreasonably obsessed with the pursuit of immortality. But one thing he WASN’T was someone who would shy away from MURDERING those who got in his way. He murdered Burbage mid-meal, order the murder of Cedric Diggory for standing in the wrong place at the wrong time, and ordered countless other deaths without hesitation. And even when his closest followers failed him-even slightly, he was quick to dispose of them..And simply move on. Just look at what happened to Wormtail, strangled by his own silver hand for showing a moment of mercy. Or Severus Snape, killed not for betrayal, but simply because Voldemort believed it would grant him mastery of the Elder Wand. But with all of this in mind, there’s one person Voldemort left alive that I still can’t make sense of: Horace Slughorn. Today we’re going to be discussing WHY Voldemort, more trigger-happy than perhaps ANYONE ELSE, made the unusual decision to leave Slughorn alive. Was it calculated? Merciful? The Harry Potter story...Continued. This video is an unofficial fan project created for entertainment purposes only. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros., or any official Harry Potter rights holders. The story featured in this video was generated using AI and is intended as speculative, fan-made fiction that builds upon the world established in the original Harry Potter books. All names, characters, and settings from the Harry Potter series remain the intellectual property of their respective copyright holders. This content is transformative in nature and is protected under fair use. Last week I posted a video where I used AI to attempt to continue writing the Harry Potter story IMMEDIATELY after the fall of Voldemort. And the response was overwhelming to say the least. In fact, I got over 650 comments asking me to keep going, so today I’m going to deliver. Using my parameters, AI actually did a pretty good job at getting the story going again, and I know from the comments that a lot of you feel the same way. In order to keep all of this in the same video, I’m going to be reposting the first couple of sections from the last video, so if you’ve seen that already then you can skip ahead to the TIMESTAMP on screen. And if you’re curious about all of the parameters that I set, then check out the previous video ‘I Asked AI to Continue the Harry Potter Story (What Happens AFTER Deathly Hallows’. If you’re a true Harry Potter fan, then I suspect that you, like me, had an impending sense of dread as you neared the final pages of the final book. After it all, it was the end of an era- and as far as I could tell at the time, there wasn’t much new Harry Potter content on the horizon (besides a few movies, of course). These books were released over a 10 year period spanning my entire adolescence, and needless to say- they were pretty important to me. Every release felt like a cultural event, and every chapter felt like stepping back into a world that- at times- felt more real than reality itself. So when I turned that final page of Deathly Hallows, I couldn’t help but feel… hollow. Not because the ending was bad — far from it. But because I wasn’t ready to leave. And sure, over the years we got more content — the Fantastic Beasts films, the Cursed Child play, and various other things — but none of it quite scratched that same itch. None of it picked up where Deathly Hallows left off in a way that felt fully satisfying. But what if there was ANOTHER book? A book that gave us REAL clarity on the aftermath of Voldemort’s downfall. A story that didn’t skip ahead nineteen years to a peaceful train station, but instead started in the rubble of Hogwarts — when the war was over. A story that could replace the words ‘All was well’ — not to placate us, but to finally show us what came next. That’s the story I want to explore. Dumbledore’s a complex character. When he’s first introduced to us, he’s hyped up like some sort of Wizarding prodigy. As a boy, his magical brilliance turned heads — and as an adult, he defeated the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, became headmaster of Hogwarts, and was said to be the only wizard Voldemort ever truly feared. He’s also known for his intellect — famously discovering the twelve uses of dragon’s blood, publishing groundbreaking magical research, and earning countless awards and honors. To most, Dumbledore is the perfect blend of power and wisdom. A paragon of good. But the truth? Beneath all of the glory, the reality is far murkier. Because Behind the half-moon glasses and whimsical quirks is a man haunted by guilt — a man with a past so dark, he spent the rest of his life trying to bury it. And while many of his past deeds have since been exposed, there’s a lot to Dumbledore that people still don’t think about..And I think it’s quite possible that his hands aren’t quite as clean as we give him credit for. Which is why today, we’re going to uncover the three secrets he hoped no one would ever find out. He mastered the Dark Arts. Split his soul. Cheated death. He could bend others to his will, kill with a flick of his wand, and strike fear into the heart of the wizarding world. But for all his power… there was one kind of magic Lord Voldemort could never learn. Not because he lacked talent — he was one of the most gifted wizards of his age. Not because it was too complex — he solved the secrets of Horcruxes, after all. But because something inside him was broken. Something human. Who is Minister for Magic? Who’s is Headmaster of Hogwarts? Is blood status STILL a controversial issue? And most importantly: are there any other NEW dark wizards on the rise? Lately, the Harry Potter world has been… a little chaotic. Sure, there’s been plenty of exciting news — a brand new HBO series in the works, major casting announcements, and the promise of finally getting a longer, more detailed adaptation of the books. But not all of the news has been met with open arms. And one casting decision in particular — the choice for Snape — has been all over my news feed for months, seemingly sparking nonstop debate and dividing the fandom in a way I haven’t seen in years. And here’s the thing: it’s not a standalone issue. People don’t have a problem with Essiedu as a person or as an actor, they have a problem with how HBO have chosen to conduct business..Advertising a show as a book-faithful, and then turning their back on this claim the second casting starts. With filming just around the corner, today I’m breaking down the good, the bad, and the ugly — and making the case for why this series may (or may not) be redeemable. Let’s dive in to it. As HBO trudges ahead with its high-profile reboot of the Harry Potter series, most major roles have now been cast, including the announcement of 9 major roles just this week However, one decision continues to dominate online discourse: the casting of Papa Essiedu as Severus Snape. From the moment the announcement went public, the backlash has been unrelenting. While other casting choices have sparked minor debates—such as the updated portrayal of Hermione Granger—Essiedu's selection as Snape has received disproportionately heated responses across all platforms. And now, a new rumor is throwing more fuel on the fire: that HBO may be preparing to recast Snape altogether. Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. A couple of weeks back it was reported that Tom Felton would be officially returning to the Wizarding World. But despite the whispers and speculation, nothing concrete was ever confirmed. All we knew was that a familiar face was returning, and for most fans, that seemed like enough. However, in a recent development, we’ve now got some clarity on Tom Felton’s return to the magical world. Voldemort was the most dangerous Dark wizard in history. Capable of splitting his soul, flying without a broom, and leading an army of Death Eaters that would kill on his command. But one person he could never kill, no matter how powerful he seemed to get, was Harry. Of course, this was largely circumstantial. Harry was protected — first by his mother’s sacrifice, and then by the blood wards at Privet Drive. Not to mention the twin wand cores, piece of Voldemort’s soul inside of Harry, and the fact that Voldemort used Harry's blood to rebuild his body. They were, to some extent, inextricably tied to each other- and as the prophecy so aptly put it: “either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives” But if we consider for a second that every failed attempt at killing Harry was MAGICAL in nature, it does reveal a slightly more obvious solution: the NON magical alternatives. In the wizarding world, few magical objects spark as many ‘what if’ debates as the Time-Turner. If it could be used to save both Buckbeak and Sirius, why didn’t anyone just spin it a little further? Why not go back and stop Cedric Diggory’s death? Or warn Lily and James before Voldemort arrived? Why not save Dumbledore, or even stop Voldemort’s rise altogether by sabotaging Tom Riddle’s past? At a glance, it feels like the Time-Turner is the ultimate fix-it tool, a magical loophole that should’ve solved everything. But as always in the wizarding world, things aren’t that simple. Today, we’ll be diving deep into why the Time-Turner wasn’t used to rewrite history, fix every tragedy, and (among other things) put a stop to Voldemort before his reign of terror could even begin. Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today I’ve got a bunch of news stories that I want to cover which are centered around the upcoming HBO show. I know there’s been a lot of news-style videos lately, but I’ll aim to space these out more going forward — I don’t want to stray too far from the core focus of this channel: the lore. Let me know if you think this is the right call. Anyway, it’s no secret that the upcoming series has sparked a lot of conversation — not just about casting or storylines, but also about J.K. Rowling’s involvement. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at what Rowling’s role actually is in the new series (including addressing some rumors around her allegedly SUING HBO), how HBO and Warner Bros. are handling the production, and what this all means for the future of the Wizarding World. We’ll also be taking a look at some exciting updates on the show’s production. Starting with... Voldemort was considered the most dangerous Dark wizard of all time, and for a while he was feared by the entire wizarding world- even by those who followed him. But after his initial downfall at the hands of baby Harry, he was little more than a shadow—weak, powerless, and holding onto life by a thread (well, seven threads). But eventually, after a brief stint in the forests of Albania..He does come back. He regains his strength, rebuilds his body through dark and ancient magic, regains his followers and..Eventually reclaims his place as the Dark Lord. So… My question is: why didn’t anyone finish the job the first time around? Why didn’t Dumbledore, the Ministry of Magic, or anyone else track down what was left of Voldemort and destroy him before he had the chance to return? Could the Second Wizarding War have been avoided altogether? Let’s take a look. The name ‘Bellatrix Lestrange’ would send shivers down the spines of even the bravest of witches and wizards. And this reputation was well-deserved, as her terrifying perspectives and bloodthirsty nature propelled her to commit numerous unthinkable acts over the 46 years that she terrorized the greater Wizarding community. Widely considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous witches of her time, Bellatrix is perhaps best known as Voldemort’s ‘right-hand’ woman, occupying a high-up role in the Death Eater hierarchy. But beyond all of this, there was actually a lot more to Bellatrix than some realize. Today we’re going to be diving into her history, peeling back the layers of her character and uncovering what may have motivated her to become the woman that she did. I recently came across a clip on YouTube where author Brandon Sanderson and his podcast guest Dan Well were discussing Voldemort’s character. Aaand things got pretty controversial pretty quickly, as shortly after posing the question, “Is he a good character?”—they both came to the same conclusion: he wasn’t. Naturally my first inclination was to feel ANGER because HOW DARE THEY insult the main antagonist from the series that I love. But then I began to wonder….Is he a good character? Or do I just like him because I like the Harry Potter story as a whole? Is he compelling in his own right? Is he actually interesting? And..Can a book even be good if a CORE character is bad? All of this got me really thinking about what makes a good character. Is it depth? Motivation? Backstory? Complexity? Yes, he’s powerful. Yes, he’s terrifying. But is he relatable? Does he evolve? So today, I want to dig deeper into whether or not Voldemort is actually a well-written character, or if he’s just been heavily propped up by the strength of the narrative around him. Given that I have a Harry Potter YouTube channel, you might not be too surprised to hear that most of my recommended content on YouTube is..*SHOCKER* Harry Potter related. But every so often, I see something in the same realm, but just a little bit different..which in this case was a video of Jordan Peterson analyzing the series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYedNVMB2YQ 0:50-1:20 Now, it’s not often that mainstream figures discuss Harry Potter. It’s 2025 and nearly 3 decades have passed since the first book came out. So naturally, I was curious- and I decided to see what he was talking about. But what exactly is the connection between Jordan Peterson and the Wizarding World? And why does he seem to think it’s so important? Is it possible that he’s just bending the Harry Potter story to his philosophical will? Or are there elements to the story that perhaps many of us have never considered. Today I’m going to be breaking it down, clip by clip, and seeing if I can make some sense of it all. Don’t worry, none of this is political- we’re strictly staying on the topic of Harry Potter. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today I’m going to be bringing you up to speed with everything that is Harry Potter as of May 2025. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Ghost Plots. You might not be too surprised to hear that Rowling, who wrote the 7 Harry Potter books in a 10 year timespan, generated a fair bit of information (storylines, plots, characters) that simply never made it in to the final versions of the beloved books. And in time, these secondary pieces of information have come to be known as ‘Ghost Plots’. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be taking a look at aspects of the Harry Potter universe that everyone seems to remember…The wrong way. And partly to blame for all of this is the fact that the Harry Potter books were adapted to film. The short answer for WHY all of this happened is that in transforming the beloved book series into movies, a lot of liberties were taken. Characters personalities were changed Scenes that NEVER occurred were added Character roles were switched And in many cases, aspects of the books were outright omitted But now that so many years have passed, a lot of these movie misconceptions have become so ingrained that they've completely overwritten how we remember the original Harry Potter books. How you perceive this video will depend entirely on how you engaged with the series. For some, the films were too frustrating to finish — filled with inaccuracies that clashed with the books- and by going down this path their memory of the books (and more importantly, accurate information) remained intact. But for many others, the books and movies have blended together into one seamless version of the story. Harry Potter as a whole became an amalgamation of both book and film — with the lines between them increasingly blurred. And in many instances these changes became so pervasive that they overwrote how nearly everyone remembered the source material. After you’ve watched the video, let me know how many of these things YOU remembered the wrong way. Be honest. When we’re first exposed to the Harry Potter story, Gryffindor are introduced as the ‘good’ guys. They can’t do any wrong, can they? Slytherin Bad. Gryffindor good. But, it’s not really that simple, is it? Because when you actually look past the golden glow of Gryffindor House — past the roaring lion mascot, the impressive Quidditch performances, and the constant rule-breaking that somehow always gets rewarded 100 house points at the end of the year — what you start to see is a culture that’s not exactly representative of moral superiority or emotional maturity. Albus Dumbledore is widely regarded as the most powerful wizard of his time. Some may say Voldemort, or even Grindelwald, but in my opinion- Dumbledore had something special that the others didn't. He was truly one of a kind. Or...Was he? My question today is: was Dumbledore as special as we make him out to be? Does he deserve to be pedestalized to the extent that he is? Or is it possible that someone else could reach- or even surpass- his level of power? Surely SOMEONE has the potential to match him, right? And if so..Who? Boggarts, as we understand them, are essentially the manifestation of our deepest darkest fears. Amortal shape-shifting non-beings that transform themselves in to whatever it is that we fear most. No one knows what their true form looks like (except maybe Mad-Eye Moody), no one knows where they come from, and no one knows..WHY they exist. So today, we're going to be busting these questions wide open: exploring WHAT they are, WHERE they come from, and why they're one of the most terrifying creatures in all of Harry Potter lore. Today we’re going to be discussing James Potter..And why I think he was actually kind of…awful. Now, before you rush to the comments, hear me out. I know James is Harry’s father. I know he fought Voldemort. And I know he eventually became a good person who died protecting his family. But if we take a closer look at who James was during his years at Hogwarts, the picture we get is a lot less flattering. Quick video for you today on the most recent update from HBO which includes their finalized casting decisions for a number of the main actors in season 1 of the Harry Potter TV show, which will be an adaptation of the Philosopher's Stone. Many of these names have been thrown around over the past few months, but few had actually been confirmed. And interestingly, there are a few names and characters here that slipped through the cracks entirely. In total there are 6 names. I'll start with the ones that I didn't know about up until the announcement, then go into the others. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. I made a video a couple of weeks ago discussing the recent casting for Severus Snape in the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series..And let's just say there were some strong opinions... In fact, that video got over THREE THOUSAND COMMENTS- and the basic gist of the conversation was this: people really care about who plays Snape- and rightly so. As far as works of fiction go, the Harry Potter books are pretty mild. Sure, the books do get a LITTLE bit darker as the story goes on..But you’d never go so far as to deem it SATANIC or something..Right? Well, as it happens, many people DO think this way (I know, nuts), and ever since the first book hit the shelves in the late ‘90s, there have been waves of controversies surrounding the series—including some truly outrageous claims… Like Harry Potter being somehow synonymous with devil worship. And that’s just one of these flagrant claims. One asserts that the Harry Potter books act as an “open doorway that will put untold millions of kids into hell” Another claims that that the books are “worse than rat poison mixed with orange soda” And one religious figure even made the bold proclamation that: "Behind Harry Potter hides the signature of the king of the darkness, the devil.” These are REAL quotes. But..Now the question is: Are these assertions substantiated in ANY WAY? Today, we’re going to be tackling this topic head-on—unpacking why so many people believed Harry Potter served as a gateway to hell, what unfolded in the wake of these controversies, and why, despite all the backlash, the series not only survived…But became a global phenomenon. I've done a lot of spell videos. The most powerful, the most dangerous, the hardest to cast, but one I've always wanted to make involves taking a look at the most... Messed up. Not the deadliest. Not the flashiest. But the kind of spell that makes you question why someone would even invent it in the first place. Fortunately I've gone down the spell rabbit hole pretty deep- I've even made an entire video covering every single spell in the Wizarding World. So I've got a pretty solid grasp on the full spellbook. Which is why today, we're shining a light on the most messed up, demented spells the Wizarding World has to offer - spells that exist to inflict pain, humiliation, and sometimes just pure, senseless suffering. Instead of focusing on the obvious ones, my goal for this video will be to dig deeper into the cruel, obscure, and morally bankrupt curses, hexes, and jinxes that most of you probably haven't even heard of. But before we get stuck in, I do want to highlight one consideration: Sometimes, it's not about what the spell is inherently - it's about how it's used. Something that seems harmless on the outside - like a spell used to mend a broken teacup can quickly become a tool of torment in the wrong hands. Anyway.. Let's dive into it. What if I told you that there was a witch from Harry Potter lore that, despite possessing levels of power similar to the founders of Hogwarts..No one really talks about. This witch, known more commonly for her title as a 'sorceress' was known for her extraordinary magical abilities - so much so that her name became legend, even beyond the wizarding world. Her mastery over spells and enchantments rivaled that of the most powerful sorcerers in history, yet for some reason, she remains overlooked in most discussions of magic. But who was this witch? And why has her legacy faded into obscurity? Today we'll be discussing all of that and more. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. It's during the first book/film, the Philosopher's Stone, that Harry is first introduced to the Wizarding World. And upon his first discovery of this magical realm, he's filled with both excitement and confusion. "Harry - Yer a Wizard" "I'm a what?" Gasped Harry This was a boy who had, for all his waking years, endured a painfully DULL and oppressive life at 4 Privet drive alongside the Dursleys. And now, suddenly, in a single moment, an entire magical world seems to be calling his name. Potions. Spells. Magical Creatures. Magic Wands. All of it. And this sudden revelation of a hidden world offered not only a glimmer of hope - but also the promise of a life far beyond the ordinary. And what does Harry go and do? CAST absolutely no spells for the entire first film. No, really. Harry Potter, the BOY WHO LIVED, Voldemort SLAYER- doesn't cast ANYTHING. But.... What about when he.... And that time when they were... Nope. Nothing. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing fan theories regarding what people THINK Harry Potter did to Voldemort in order to defeat him, as well as what ACTUALLY took place during The Battle of Hogwarts. When navigating the Wizarding World through the perspective of a Muggle, there are a lot of things that might raise a few eyebrows. Some in a morally dubious sense - and others simply because of how unbelievably astonishing they are. But in my view, there is perhaps nothing more sinister or baffling than the notion of a love potion (and that's quite a statement given what's out there) Think about it: it's a potion that you give to someone... and it makes them fall INVOLUNTARILY in love with you. For just a second- consider the power you could have over someone with this- one sip from a potion and they're infatuated with you. And all of this only feels even more bizarre when you consider the fact that we're CONSTANTLY reminded of how POWERFUL the force of love truly is in the Wizarding World. Yet... somehow, love can be bottled and sold? Like a trinket on a shop shelf in Diagon Alley. Today we're going to be taking a closer look at LOVE potions in Harry Potter. HOW they're allowed to exist, HOW they work, and even a few theories on Why I think they might not be QUITE what we think they are- ONE of which involves the Weasley twins. Let's dive in. Since the books and films ended there really hasn't been much additional info published on the Wizarding World, which is why I felt the need to fill in that 27 year gap and provide some clarity on what sort of man Draco Malfoy became and what he did with his life. After the dust settled and the battle with Voldemort came to an end, the Wizarding world was finally able to finally celebrate the triumph of good over evil. However, it also marked the beginning of an uncharted chapter in wizarding world history. And because the books and films came to an end, we never gained much insight into what became of the places and characters that we grew to love. We were given a brief epilogue that offered a TINY snippet of what their lives looked like 19 years later- but besides that..Nothing. And this leaves a significant gap that remains largely unexplored, not to mention the many years that have passed since the epilogue. Today I'm going to fill you in on what became of the titular character, Harry Potter- taking a look at what transpired in his life, and what sort of man he became. Let's dive in. Dumbledore and Voldemort are widely regarded as the pinnacle of magical power, standing at the very top of the wizarding hierarchy. Their mastery of spells, dueling prowess, and profound understanding of magic set them apart from nearly all other witches and wizards in history. While still just a boy, Dumbledore performed magic that his professors "had never seen before,", and in adulthood, he cemented his place as the most powerful wizard of his time, mastering disciplines of magic that others could barely comprehend. Years later, Voldemort followed suit, displaying unnatural magical talent from a young age. Even before formal training, he could move objects, control animals, and manipulate the minds of others through sheer will. As an adult, Voldemort's magic became unmatched in both brutality and innovation. He pushed spellcraft to its limits and became the only known wizard to split his soul multiple times. It's fairly safe to say that these two were leaps and bounds ahead of their peers and entirely deserving of their reputations as two of the most powerful wizards in history. But what if I told you that another wizard - one just as powerful, if not more so, than both of these men - once walked the very same halls of Hogwarts that they did, but somehow doesn't get nearly the same recognition? Today we're going to be cracking this wide open and telling his story. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. The Sacred Twenty-Eight is a "Pure-Blood Directory" published in the first half of the twentieth century that outlines the wizarding world's most pure-blooded magical families – which is to say, the witches and wizards whose ancestors had not "muddied" their blood lines with Muggle integration. Within the wizarding society, blood purity has been a longstanding source of division and prejudice, and the assertion that some wizarding families were more "pure" than others (because their bloodline remained purely magical) is not received well by most in Wizarding Society. Regardless of this, pure-bloods believe they are somehow better - more powerful, more deserving - simply because their lineage has remained untouched by Muggle blood. And while many wizarding families (even some on the Sacred 28 list) reject this idea as outdated and elitist, many others, like the Malfoys and the Blacks, wear their pure-blood status like a badge of honour, ensuring that their family trees remain free of Muggle influence. And the same can be said for many others on this list. But if we dissect the Sacred Twenty-Eight more closely, there's something... odd about it, and it's the fact that the Weasleys are on the list. Unlike the Malfoys, who openly embraced their pure-blood superiority, the Weasleys are known for their progressive attitudes - welcoming half-bloods, Muggle-borns, and even Muggles themselves. They openly reject pure-blood supremacy, and yet... their family history, even as recent as Molly and Arthur, tells a different story. Is it possible that the Weasleys are simply no better than the families they claim to be so different from? Have they, for generations, quietly upheld the very same pure-blood traditions they claim to despise - just in a less obvious way? Today we're going to be unpacking the Weasley's dirty dark secret. Last week I made a video outlining the 10 most powerful wizards of all time. And that video followed a whole bunch of other power ranking videos I've done in the past- most powerful Death eaters, Aurors etc. Anyway, in the last video I noticed quite a few people commenting that they wanted me to do the SAME for witches. I left witches out of the last video intentionally because they deserve a dedicated ranking of their own. So today, we're going to be taking a look at the 10 most POWERFUL witches of all time, diving into the history books and seeing who is worthy of a spot on this list. Before we get started, why don't you comment YOUR top 10 down below. I've got some wild cards you probably won't be expecting.. Let's get in to it. One thing that's always dawned on me is how shocking it must be for the parents of muggleborns to receive news of the magical world. And as if coming to terms with the existence of an entire magical world isn't difficult enough already, they're then expected to entrust the safety of their children to a bunch of complete strangers in a world that they not only have no understanding of, but have also just been introduced to. Oh, and let's not forget the cherry on top: once your child leaves, you're expected to keep the whole thing a secret. Don't tell your friends, your neighbors, or anyone else - because the magical world doesn't exist as far as the rest of society is concerned. Given how difficult it must be for the parents of muggle-born students to come to terms with this reality, I'd be willing to bet that there has been more than one instance of parents REFUSING (at least, initially) to send their child to the school. After all, what GOOD parent wouldn't worry about sending their child off to an unfamiliar, hidden world filled with unknown dangers and rules they don't understand? I know my mum would take issue...At least, until she learns a bit more about it. Therefore, today I want to discuss the topic of parents REFUSING to send their children to Hogwarts: unpacking whether it's possible to actually refuse, and if they do, taking a look at the what the future might hold for their magical child. I don't know how I missed it, but today we're going to finally be putting this topic to rest- taking a look at the 10 most powerful wizards to have made their mark (whether good or bad) on Wizarding history. Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing The Philosopher's Stone, Hogwarts professor Quirinus Quirrell, Lord Voldemort, and of course- Harry Potter. After returning home from his trip, Quirrell didn't reprise his previous role of Muggle Studies professor; instead, he had been given the coveted position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor - a subject that had been notoriously cursed for years. And although Dumbledore, ever watchful, was wary of Quirrell's drastic transformation, he lacked concrete evidence and thus permitted the young professor to carry out his duties. And the year Quirrell assumed the role of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor coincidentally aligned with Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts. Very early on in Harry's magical adventures, he stops at the Leaky Cauldron with Hagrid, where he has his first encounter with Quirrell - a meeting that, at the time, seemed unremarkable but would later prove to be far more significant. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing Veritaserum- an incredibly powerful (and I feel, underutilized) potion that forces individuals to reveal the truth. "It is Veritaserum - a Truth Potion so powerful that three drops would have you spilling your innermost secrets for this entire class to hear. Now, the use of this potion is controlled by very strict Ministry guidelines. But unless you watch your step, you might just find that my hand slips - right over your evening pumpkin juice. And then, Potter... then we'll find out whether you've been in my office or not." Besides maybe Felix Felicis, Polyjuice Potion and Amortentia- I feel as though Veritaserum AKA 'Truth' Serum is one of the most powerful potions in the entire Wizarding World. And given this fact, I can't help but notice that it's ludicrously underutilized (at least in the series). Are we really supposed to believe that, over the course of wizarding history, only two dark wizards have created Horcruxes? Durmstrang's true 'claim to fame' or rather 'notorious hallmark' was one of its former pupils: Gellert Grindelwald. Grindelwald permanently stained the school's reputation by pushing the boundaries of dark magic even FURTHER than the school permitted, eventually being expelled for 'twisted, dark experiments' and 'near-fatal attacks' on students. But what exactly did Gellert Grindelwald do? Durmstrang was notorious for allowing its students to explore the darker side of magic..How far did he really push that boundary? As these attacks and experiments were never explored in detail, today I'm going to be taking a look at a few theories. According to Hermione's research, there are only 7 known Animagi from the last CENTURY. In fact, the ability is SO RARE that those who are able to successfully become an Animagus are required to register with the ministry. So..My question is: WHY are there so few? How is it that this powerful ability is so underutilized in wizarding society? And what happens to those who have tried and FAILED? But perhaps most importantly: Why haven't the most powerful and gifted wizards like Voldemort and Dumbledore attempted it? Or..Have they? The Killing Curse. Avada Kedavra. One of the three Unforgivable Curses, this dark spell is the ultimate symbol of disregard for life. Feared for its infamous reputation, the mere utterance of the words that comprise its incantation would send shockwaves of fear through the hearts of most in the Wizarding World. But my question is..Why isn't it used more often? NO, I don't WANT it to be used more often, but it does feel a little underutilized in the series given how powerful it truly is. Sure, it's an 'Unforgivable curse'- but what's REALLY stopping a Dark Wizard from using it? Especially one that's already been to Azkaban and embraced a life of crime? Why risk losing a duel when you can end it with one simple spell? I mean, it's unblockable and irreversible...The perfect weapon. Magical power. The ultimate currency among witches and wizards. With enough of it, you can dazzle your classmates, climb the wizarding hierarchy (social or economic), and perhaps - even dare to conquer the world. Whether it's used to protect, create, or destroy, magical power is the ultimate force that shapes the destinies of witches and wizards. But given its significance, what IS magical power, really? Is it simply raw strength - the ability to cast more powerful spells than anyone else? Or is it something deeper, something tied to intellect, skill, or even character? If that's the case, what sets the most powerful wizards - like Voldemort and Dumbledore - apart from others? And perhaps most importantly, what makes performing magic hard? What is it that separates a simple spell from a complex one? Today we'll be diving into 3 of my theories as we peel back the layers of magical POWER in Harry Potter. Let's dive in to it. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be taking a closer look at one of the many oddities of the wizarding world: How in Merlin's Beard Professor Albus Dumbledore was able to understand the language of snakes - Parseltongue. Yes, that's right, Dumbledore. The wizarding world's favourite headmaster, known for his defeat of Gellert Grindelwald, love of lemon sherbets, and ability to give cryptic life advice. This man somehow understood one of the rarest, most exclusive, and seemingly dark magical languages - a language that's supposed to be reserved for the descendants of Salazar Slytherin. Today, we're diving into a seriously WILD theory that might just have you rethinking everything you know about the fated romance of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. That's right - we're asking the question: Did Ron Weasley use the Imperius Curse on Hermione Granger to make her fall in love with him? Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today's video is PART 2 of a 4 part series where we'll be taking a closer look at the storylines left OUT of the Harry Potter films. These are the subplots and storylines from the books that didn't make it to the big screen due to time constraints. Apparently the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series, which has the goal of creating faithful adaptations of the novels, will allocate 8 HOURS per season, with each season dedicated to one book. With that sort of a runtime, we should be hopeful that all of these secondary storylines make it in. Anyway, let's get in to it. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. While the Harry Potter films were able to bring the Wizarding World's magic to the big screen (and in my opinion, did a good job at doing so) it's important to note that they were not without their limitations. The truth is that they had a LOT of information to convey, and a very limited amount of screen time to do it- inevitably leading to a fairly substantial amount of information - characters, subplots etc being left out of the films ENTIRELY. HOWEVER, today I'm going to be putting the spotlight on some of these omitted storylines (some big, some small) from the books, giving them the screen time they deserve. I've done a few videos in the style before, one taking a look at the DARKEST aspects removed from the films, and another looking at all of the characters removed from the films, but today I'll be focusing on storylines. Hopefully most of these will be included in the upcoming HBO series. Anyway, let's dive in. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing a well-known Hogwarts artefact known as the Mirror of Erised. Specifically, we're going to be getting in to a theory regarding it's dark and otherwise UNKNOWN history. This particular mirror also happens to be the inspiration behind the outro featured on every video I launch on this channel. On October 31st 1981, Lord Voldemort walked through the doors of the Potter cottage in Godric's Hollow for the first time. But what should have been a seemingly straightforward mission for a powerful wizard at the height of his power ended up being a catastrophic event for both parties. Harry lost his parents and Voldemort lost his corporeal form- effectively putting an end to the First Wizarding War, and changing the course of Harry's life forever. But I can't help but think that MOST of what occurred at the Potter cottage on that fateful night was avoidable altogether. A way that James, Lily and Harry would have been able to escape safely..And it involves Apparition.- Today we're going to be exploring all of this and more as we tackle the question of: WHY DIDN'T THE POTTERS DISAPPARATE to escape Voldemort? Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing RETCONS- specifically, all of the RETCONS made by JK Rowling after the Harry Potter series had ended. I should start off by making a clear distinction between what retcon USED to mean and what it means now, because somehow the term has evolved over time into something else altogether. Depending on which version of 'Retcon' you subscribe to, you're going to have very different expectations for this list. The ORIGINAL interpretation of Retcon, which stands for 'Retroactive Continuity', referred broadly to adding new information to previously told stories to expand or reinterpret the narrative. A good example of this would be JK Rowling revealing (through extended publications) that Witches and wizards VANISHED THEIR POOP via magic before the Hogwarts plumbing system came into effect.- And the more commonly understood modern definition of retcon refers specifically to changes that contradict previously established facts in the narrative, whether intentional or unintentional. The distinction here is that this interpretation places an emphasis on these new facts conflicting with existing canon. A third definition I found online seems to support either: 'a literary device in which facts in the world of a fictional work that have been established through the narrative itself are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work that recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former.' But for the sake of today's video, we're going to separate them, first placing our sights on works that CONTRADICT the source material, then shifting our perspective to more recently introduced content that SUPPLEMENTS the source material (but doesn't change it). Starting with the former. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to installment of Harry Potter Theory. I'm coming to you today with a bunch of updates on the Harry Potter franchise as a whole- including some very exciting news on the upcoming show, some casting rumours, and some highlights from an interview JK Rowling just did with the Sunday Times. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory.-Before we get started, let me clarify what we're diving into today: this video is all about the things we learn about the Harry Potter story after the series ended - little tidbits of info that Rowling shared outside of the books. These are the hidden nuggets of lore you'd only know if you kept up with interviews, Pottermore updates, or extended publications. Things like..Oh I don't know, the fact that Rowling very seriously considered killing off Ron Weasley. This video is NOT about what happens to the wizarding world or its characters after Voldemort's defeat. That's a whole different topic which I've covered extensively in the past. If you want to know about THAT kind of thing, check out my other videos. Without further ado, let's dive in to some of the most fascinating things we've learned about the Harry Potter series after it ended! Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, I've got a special compilation for you, featuring some of the darkest witches and wizards in wizarding history. Some of these names will be familiar, while others are much less well-known. However, one thing is certain: each of these witches and wizards has a rightful claim to the title of the darkest and most evil in wizarding history. So, if you want to be an expert on DARK WIZARDS then this is the video for you. With Christmas just around the corner, it's always nice to have Harry Potter content playing on repeat. But since there are only so many films, hopefully, this compilation helps pad out your playlist a little! These videos span 5 years on the channel so please be aware that there WILL BE some varied audio levels and a little bit of repeat information. Anyway, let's dive in. There are quite a few mistakes and plot holes in the Harry Potter books and films. In fact, there are enough for me to make several compilations of them. However, perhaps one of the most confusing and inconsistent elements of the Wizarding World is undoubtedly the 'Trace'- a fairly major plot component that is riddled with contradictions.- To the Harry Potter casual, these issues with the Trace probably went by relatively unnoticed, but for the die-hards, it was hard to ignore the glaringly obvious ways in which the trace was misrepresented. There are also many components of the trace that are never explained- like how it is actually applied to underage witches and wizards. Today, we'll be diving deep into the Trace - exploring what it is, how it's applied to children, and, through examples from the books and films, uncovering why this concept is essentially a total trainwreck. We'll also be looking at the trace from a more SINISTER perspective via one of my theories. Let's dive in. "A magic this powerful can do great harm in the wrong hands. It must be wielded by a select few." This fairly ominous quote of course refers to the phenomenon that is Ancient Magic - a primal, mysterious force that predates the more structured spellwork of the modern Wizarding World. Revered for its immense power yet feared for its unpredictability, ancient magic is woven into the tapestry of wizarding history, appearing in legends and the very foundations of wizarding society. Yet, in the modern day we hear very little of this 'ancient' and powerful force. Which raises an important question: how could something so integral to the Wizarding World's past have dwindled into what is effectively complete obscurity. In today's video, we'll delve into the mysteries of Ancient Magic - exploring what it truly is, where it went, and examining some examples of Ancient Magic that appear throughout the series, some of which you may not have even realized were ancient magic at all. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing some of the most important figures - both famous and infamous- from Wizarding History- names that are coupled with accomplishments and stories that make the Wizarding World what it is today. The Harry Potter books really only cover the time period that the books are SET IN, but there’s a lot more to Harry Potter lore than meets the eye and It’s always interesting taking a look back at the history books. There is a LOT of ground to cover and a LOT of names on this list, so this will just be PART 1 of a multi part series. Starting in alphabetical order, today we’re taking a look at the A’s and B’s. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. From the moment HBO's new Harry Potter TV Series was announced in April of 2023, fans of the series have been buzzing with questions and excitement. Questions like..What will the series be about? Will it stay true to the original books? And most importantly, who will be in charge of the project? And since then, a lot of these questions have been answered.- But perhaps the biggest lingering question mark surrounding the series pertains to casting. Because you see, so much of the Harry Potter films success was a direct result of the incredible casting decisions that were made.- For many of the roles it's almost impossible to imagine ANYONE else undertaking them. But..Showrunners for the upcoming series have the behemoth task of finding people anyway. Back in September an open casting call was announced for 3 of the most important characters in the series- Harry, Ron and Hermione. And for these roles, I can almost certainly tell you that it will be relatively unknown actors that end up taking on the characters. But besides these 3, there are a few other massively important roles that are central to the series..Like, oh I don't know- ALBUS DUMBLEDORE. And as it turns out, the studio already has someone in mind. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing exactly how the genetics of witches and wizards work, with a focus on where the heck SQUIBS come from. If you're a fan of Harry Potter and the works of fantasy fiction in general, you've likely asked yourself the question: Where does magic come from? In some universes it would seem that magic can be acquired or learned. But in others - like the wizarding world of Harry Potter - magic is explained as more of a natural talent or "gift" that a person is born with.- But how exactly does that magic get passed down from generation to generation? Why is it that some Muggles end up with magical abilities - while other children born into wizarding families are unable to perform even the simplest of spells? Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In what seems like just the last couple of years (but in reality has spanned nearly a DECADE), Warner Bros. has faced some challenges when releasing new Harry Potter IP- particularly the "Fantastic Beasts" film series. These high-budget films which dropped in 2016, 2018, and 2022 respectively struggled to find traction at the global box office and didn't quite hit the mark for most fans. And for these reasons, it's unlikely that the Fantastic Beasts films will ever continue, stopping 2 films shy of the 5 film projection originally provided.- However, Warner Bros. found a bright spot in 2023 with the release of Hogwarts Legacy, which seemed to really strike a chord with Harry Potter fans worldwide. The game topped sales charts as the best-selling game of 2023 across ALL platforms and ALL genres- beating out Call of Duty, Madden, Zelda, Diablo and more. And since the game's release over 30 MILLION copies have been sold. Encouraged by this success, Warner Bros. Games released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions in August, remastered the Lego Harry Potter game collection, and granted licenses for several new mobile games. But the biggest bit of news is that a Hogwarts Legacy SEQUEL has apparently become a 'very big priority'. A grain of sand on a lost beach. A tiny pebble lying unnoticed on the ocean floor. A fallen acorn buried under years of autumn leaves. A faded seashell washed ashore on an uninhabited island. These are just a few examples of the kinds of objects that I would use if I was in the position to create my own Horcruxes...And I'm sure the same can be said for a lot of you. Why? Well.. They're small, hard-to-locate, and perhaps most important of all: meaningless. But somehow, Voldemort missed the memo here, and instead chose objects that were eventually linked back to him. So..The obvious questions here are...WHY was Voldemort so particular in his selection process for potential Horcruxes? And why didn't he choose things that would be virtually impossible to find? After all, had he done what seems so obvious, to pick meaningless inanimate objects, he may still be ruling over the Wizarding World. The introduction of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1692 marked a pivotal moment in Wizarding history.-It put a stop to the witch hunts and unjust persecution of witches and wizards. It ushered in an era of harmonious co-existence. And most importantly, it separated the two worlds: muggle and magical. But what IF there was a darker element to the statute that has never been properly explored?- an element that concerned the muggles beyond the primary separation of the two worlds? What if the statute, and the subsequent formation of the Ministry of Magic- marked the dawn of an era wherein wizardkind stealthily wielded control over the non-magical world, deftly manipulating it from the concealed depths of the shadows? Today we're going to be exploring all of that, and more, as we discuss wizardkind's *silent* control over the Muggle dominion. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. This is part 1 of a video series where I'll be diving in to the Harry Potter books and taking a look, chapter by chapter, at all of the mistakes that were made. Starting with book 1: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I'm going to be placing a particular focus on instances in which factual errors were made or canon was somehow contradicted. Trivial errors like typos / grammatical issues will not be focused on this video. I should also mention that I'm not making this video to CRITICIZE the books, but rather, take a look out of my own curiosity. Authors are only human and nearly every book series has mistakes like these made in them. Rowling has even addressed this topic herself: "As obsessive fans will tell you, I do slip up! Several classrooms move floors mysteriously between books and these are the least serious continuity errors! Most of the fansites will point you in the direction of my mistakes. But the essentials remain consistent from book to book because the story has been plotted for a long time and it is clear in my mind." In the interest of time, I'm also only going to briefly summarizing each mistake as there's quite a lot of ground to cover.- Starting...With the COVER of the very first book. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Now- we've all heard of the Unforgivable Curses - three of the most forbidden and dangerous spells in the wizarding world. Casting any of these, whether it's the Cruciatus Curse, the Imperius Curse, or the Killing Curse, is considered such a heinous crime that it's punishable by a life sentence in Azkaban. Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In my last video I discussed 7 Harry Potter theories that are so inconsequential and likewise plausible that they are hard to deny. Theories with such little evidence against them that, for the most part, we can all agree they likely have a basis in reality. In my last video, it seemed like many of you agreed with my picks, so today we're diving into 7 more of these theories..Pushing the envelope a little further. Within the theorydom, there are some pretty absurd Harry Potter theories out there. And I'll admit, I'm likely responsible for quite a few of them... However, even when I present more rational theories, they often face their fair share of scrutiny. There are usually a number of ways in which even a fairly IRONCLAD theory can be challenged. But every once in a while a theory comes along with so few holes that..For the most part, Potterheads actually AGREE. Theories so plausible (and with so little evidence pointing AGAINST them)..Or just, inconsequential and light-hearted that it's easier to just roll with them than to argue. Today we're going to be taking at look at 7 theories that fit exactly this criteria. Theories you hear and just think..."Why not?" Let's dive in. At the time of writing this, Ollivander's Wand Shop has been supplying the wizarding community with the finest wands money can buy for nearly 24 centuries, having first opened its doors as far back as 382 BC. I know I know, this date DOES seem a little far-fetched, but rest assured that it has been confirmed as canon. And it was during that year that the original 'Ollivander', the ancestor of Garrick Ollivander, was thought to have come from a Mediterranean country in Roman times and set up a stall in what would eventually become Diagon Alley.- The Ollivander family quickly revolutionized wand making when they publicly forsook the traditional wand-making process, which previously had witches and wizards procure their own wand core. Ollivander believed that this process produced wands that were 'inferior' in quality and performance, which led to the family procuring all wand components for future customers. At this point, the Ollivander of the time began his quest to discover the finest wand cores and the wand woods that best complemented them. And from this point onward, the purchaser would no longer select a wand of THEIR choosing- and instead began the tradition of the WAND choosing the wizard. In theory, this is a nice idea which ensures that each witch or wizard is paired with a wand perfect just for them. It also portrays the Ollivander family as genuinely caring for their customers' best interests in the name of passionate wand-making. But I think there's a lot more to this business model than meets the eye, and I think that I've got some compelling evidence to suggest that there are seriously dark undertones to the wand industry. Join me today as we dismantle the single longest-running business in Wizarding History. I question the Harry Potter books A LOT. But there's one thing in particular that I've always more or less accepted at face value with no regard for HOW it actually unfolds. And that THING is HOW the Ministry (and others) communicates with what are essentially amortal wraithlike spirits that (as far as I know) do NOT possess the ability to speak. I'm of course talking about DEMENTORS. Adding even more mystery to this question is the fact that underneath that hood of theirs the Dementors have a HOLE where their mouth is supposed to be (along with some black holes for eyes).- We know that the Ministry of Magic controls them (to some extent), but I suppose you could argue that this is an unspoken arrangement whereby Dementors are allowed to THRIVE at Azkaban Prison in exchange for relative 'peace' between the two factions. But as it happens, there are passages from the books which STRONGLY suggest Dementors relayed information to Fudge & The Ministry..In The form of WORDS strung together. Therefore, today I want to tackle the question of..CAN Dementors speak. And equally as important, HOW? Let's dive in. On the surface, Azkaban seems like a pretty good idea- mainly due to its effectiveness. It's on a far-off remote island, it has a fortress designed to keep the most dangerous criminals at bay, there are perpetual storms surrounding the island, AND there's an army of Dementors working as prison guards.- And that's just the PHYSICAL side of things. Mentally, the prison is an absolute nightmare. The crashing waves and howling winds serve as a natural barrier, isolating the inmates from the world they once terrorized. The Dementors, with their shadowy forms, siphon hope and happiness from every soul they encounter. And those who enter Azkaban often leave something behind - pieces of their sanity, their will to fight, and sometimes even their humanity. And all of this is just about borderline acceptable if we consider that it's meant to house murderers, dark wizards and those who have committed unspeakable acts against others. But the major issue here is that Azkaban is one of the ONLY Wizarding Prisons in Britain. And what this means is that perpetrators of more MINOR crimes, and in some cases those who have been wrongly convicted, are unjustly sent in to this hell-hole along with the rest of them.- It hardly seems appropriate that someone convicted for say, theft, would endure what is essentially the same punishment as someone who has murdered. This raises a whole plethora of questions about wizarding society as a whole, but the one we're going to start with is: WHY one gigantic horrible prison? Why not a network of smaller, more humane facilities that focus on rehabilitation rather than sheer punishment?- Today we're going to be diving in to all of that, and more, as we discuss the mess that is the wizarding justice system. Hey everyone, Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. I come to you with news regarding the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. I'll kick things off with the update and then I'll dive in to some more details of the project for those who are interested. Following the Emmy Awards last week, HBO's CEO and chairman, Casey Bloys, provided some fresh new details regarding the upcoming and highly anticipated series. Blood status has been a controversial and longstanding source of division and prejudice in the Wizarding World, and it all stems from the categorization of magical bloodlines into pure-bloods, half-bloods, and muggle-borns. And while I don't condone demonizing any of these groups and certainly don't want to contribute to further prejudice, I can't help but wonder if there are actual physiological differences between them - beyond just their blood, of course. Voldemort's stance on blood purity is an unusual one, as despite being a half-blood himself, he condemned anyone that wasn't pure of blood. This becomes increasingly confusing when considered in tandem with his own ego, as he hardly seems like the type of person to undermine his own identity. At first glance his hatred and prejudice towards other groups seems like completely blind and-baseless discrimination, but if we consider that his ultimate goal undermines his OWN identity, perhaps it tells us that he genuinely perceived qualities in pure-bloods that he felt were essential for true magical prowess.- Today we're going to be exploring all of that AND MORE as we attempt to identify differences between pure-bloods, half-bloods and muggleborns. Just recently I made a video on 7 things that occur after the Harry Potter story ended, that is, after the books and films concluded. This helped to introduce an element of closure to those who were wondering what may have happened next for Hogwarts, the trio, and the Wizarding World at large. And today we're going to be sticking to that same theme but flipping it on its head, exploring major events and wizarding conflicts that occured PRIOR to the first few iconic pages of the story that we've come to know and love.- This video marks the beginning of a 4-part series, during which we will explore nearly 30 major Wizarding World events in chronological order. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing the MOST powerful wandless magic within the wizarding world at large. Within the Harry Potter series, it's hard to imagine the majority of the scenes that focus on magic - WITHOUT wands. There are just SO many important and pivotal scenes that all revolve around these magical devices. From the more innocent scenes of The Philosopher's Stone when Harry Potter himself steps into Ollivanders wand shop for the first time and Hermione schools Ron and Harry on how to pronounce "Wingardium Leviosa" to the more ominous plotlines that deal with the whole twin core thing or Lord Voldemort's pursuit of the most powerful wand known to exist - the Elder Wand - these magic-wielding sticks are integral to the very heart of the books and the films. And yet - despite all the great and terrible things that witches and wizards are able to do using wands - there are also quite a few other forms of extremely powerful WANDLESS magic out there. The legend of the Deathly Hallows is one of the most well-known stories in the wizarding world. Passed down through generations, it tells the tale of three wizard brothers who encounter Death and are each granted a powerful magical artifact: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Invisibility Cloak.- And what all 3 of these powerful items have in common is that they are able to perform extraordinary feats far beyond what is typically seen in the Wizarding World. The Resurrection Stone is said to be able to bring the dead back to life. The Elder Wand has the ability to conquer all other wands, and The Invisibility Cloak is able to hide whatever - or whomever - is beneath it, even in circumstances in which typical invisibility charms do not work.- Together, these items make up the Deathly Hallows, often represented by a symbol that includes all three. These items DO exist, that much can be confirmed, but it's their backstory where things get a little foggy See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today discussing wizarding prisons. A few months back I broke down all of the known SCHOOLS in the international wizarding community, and today, similar to that, I'm going to be pivoting to international prisons. Everyone knows Azkaban, but do you know the other 7?- Let's dive in to it. With Back to Hogwarts Day fast approaching, I started thinking about all of the young witches and wizards that will experience the Wizarding World for the first time. For many of them, it'll be their first time at platform 9 ¾, first time on the Hogwarts Express, and first time walking through the front doors of Hogwarts school. But one key aspect of this integration process that got me thinking pertains to none other than the Sorting Hat. Shortly after entering the Great Hall, each of these new first year students will be required to place the fabled hat upon their head. And the Hat, which has the unique and essential task of assigning new students to one of the four houses, will place this new student in to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. For the most part, this process runs pretty smoothly, with students being sorted across the board. But what if for some strange reason, things didn't go quite as smoothly as they usually do? What if the Sorting process led to a completely disproportionate number of students in one house? Or better yet, what if one or more houses had no new students at all? Today we're tackling all of that (and more) as we dive (deeper) in to the Sorting Ceremony.
