I sat down with two of the best up and coming team ropers in the game, Tyler Tryan and Nicky Northcott. We talked about what their first experiences out on the rodeo trail and how it has prepared them for this up and coming year where they have their sights set on qualifiing for their first NFR. They both come from legendary bloodlines with world champions on both sides, so the may seem like rookies to the average person but they are far from it, and their knowlege of team roping reaches far beyond their years. It was really cool to have the next generation on to see what their mind set is and how they prepare. I see big thing in both of these guys future and excited to see what they achieve in the years to come. The Charly Crawford Podcast is proud to be a partner with NRS. In this episode, I sat down with rodeo legend Bobby 'Big Money' Harris to talk about the story behind his nickname, his journey to a world title, and the mindset it took to get there. We dug into the influence of his dad’s tough love, the discipline and structure that shaped his career, and how those lessons still apply to competitors today. Hearing how he built his edge in and out of the arena was a powerful reminder that championships are earned long before the spotlight hits. We also talked about how team roping has evolved—the rising level of competition, the importance of partnership chemistry, and the challenges young athletes face in the modern era. What stood out most to me was Bobby’s passion for coaching and preserving rodeo’s culture of accountability, community, and grit. It wasn’t just a conversation about winning—it was about legacy, growth, and what truly defines success in this sport. This episode is brought to you by Ryan Studdard with Oak & Ash Realty. In this episode, I sit down with Ross and we dive into what makes the rodeo community so special—the grit, the camaraderie, and the constant pursuit of getting better. We talk about building new teams, dialing in timing and setups in the arena, and what it really takes to compete at a high level. Ross shares his journey to the NFR, the financial and emotional sacrifices along the way, and how stepping into new seasons of life and family shifts your perspective on competing and chasing big goals. We also spend time talking about the Live Like Ace Foundation, which honors Ross’s late brother and supports families facing difficult seasons. It’s a powerful reminder that rodeo is bigger than the arena. At the end of the day, it’s about community—showing up for each other, mentoring the next generation, and making an impact that goes far beyond winning. Today I sat down with Alfalfa Feddersen, and we spent most of our time digging into the real nuts and bolts of hazing and bulldogging at the highest level. He talked about what it’s actually like hazing at the NFR, working with different horses, and how much preparation and feel goes into making those runs work. We also got into his background in steer wrestling, the influence of his family, and the impact of riding a horse like Catfish, who was as dominant as they come. We wrapped things up talking mindset and the bigger picture — everything from bulldogging technique and rodeo strategy to the legacy of guys like Sid Steiner and that winning mentality the Steiner family is known for. Alfalfa shared some great perspective on how rodeo has evolved, where it’s headed as an entertainment sport, and what the future could look like if it continues to grow the right way. In this episode, I sit down with Rhen Richard and we get into the weeds on roping, horsemanship, and what it actually takes to stay competitive while balancing family life. We talk about the transition from heeling to heading, how roping techniques have evolved over the years, and the mental shifts that separate guys who last from guys who burn out. We dig into horse selection, breeding, and managing young horses, plus the influence of good mentors and why solid fundamentals still matter—maybe more now than ever. Rhen shares his road to the NFR, how preparation plays a bigger role than people like to admit, and what he’s seeing change in the industry. We also cover futurity events, judging standards, old-school vs. modern roping styles, and wrap it up with a conversation about the Old West Futurity and where horsemanship might be headed next. I sat down with steer wrestling legend Ote Berry for a conversation that covers a lifetime in rodeo. We talked about where it all started on a South Dakota ranch, the work and mindset it took to win four world titles, and the ups and downs that come with staying in the game at the highest level. Ote also shared what it meant to make it back to The American and why helping the next generation of bulldoggers is so important to him. Whether you’ve followed steer wrestling for years or you’re new to the sport, this episode is an inside look at the grit, brotherhood, and reality of life in rodeo. Steve Duhon is a true legend in the rodeo world. He captured the Steer Wrestling World Championship in 1986, 1987, and 1993, and also claimed average titles at the National Finals Rodeo in 1987 and 1993. Steve still holds the arena record at the Thomas & Mack Center with a blazing 3.0-second run. His accomplishments earned him induction into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2003, followed by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. Throughout his career, Steve famously butted heads with other legends of the sport, including John W. Jones, Rod Lyman, and Ote Berry, among others. He credits much of his success to his father, a racehorse trainer and devoted student of competition, who played a major role in shaping his approach to the sport. It was incredible to hear about Steve’s illustrious career and to listen to some of the unforgettable stories from the road. This episode is brought to you by Ryan Studdard with Oak & Ash Realty. In this episode, I tackle a common struggle for beginners: is it your mindset or your technique that's holding you back? More often than not, it's a breakdown in the basics—poor technique can create problems with your horse, catching, and more. But if your fundamentals are solid in practice and things fall apart at the jackpot or rodeo, it might be time to work on the mental game. I share some of my go-to resources for those moments when mindset makes all the difference. The Charly Crawford Podcast is proud to be a partner with NRS. One of the best things you can do for your horse is to ride them somewhere other than inside the arena. Not only is it good for their body, it's good for their mind. There are still spots in my Champion's Level Clinic in November available for purchase on my website charlycrawford.training. With all the big rodeos and roping being live-streamed now, it's never been easier to watch the best guys in the world compete at a very high level. That said, for most ropers that should be for entertainment and not what you should be modeling your roping after. The best examples of a solid roping foundation can be found at the rope horse futurities and how those guys use their horses to get into position and set the run up so their heelers have the best opportunity to catch.
Brock Hanson is among the handiest guys ever to swing a rope. He is a National Finals Qualifier on the head side and is just as talented with a heel rope. In this episode, I explain my strategy of when and where I feel are the best scenarios to break out those green horses and let them taste live action at the jackpots. Getting those little wins on a horse you are bringing along doesn't always mean getting to the pay window, but rather boosting that horse's confidence so when their time comes to step into the spotlight they are ready to do their job.

While growing up riding horses but not roping, he had to figure it out all alone, but he enjoyed trying to make contacts through it, one of those contacts being Charly.

He started shoeing horses for a job to make a living, allowing him to stay around the best of the best. Charly was blessed to be surrounded by many individuals who helped him get to that first NFR.
