Many believers have been taught the phrase, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” For some, that idea has brought comfort. For others, it has quietly added pressure, especially in seasons where life feels overwhelming, heavy, or unrelenting. If you’ve ever wondered why things still feel like too much even while trying to trust God, this episode is for you. Today’s conversation explores where that belief comes from, how Scripture is often misunderstood, and how overwhelm can become less about what you’re carrying and more about the meaning you’ve attached to it. If you’ve been following God, doing the right things, trying to renew your mind, and yet you still feel anxious or worn down - this episode is for you. For a long time, I thought growth meant pushing forward no matter what - staying disciplined, strong, and productive. On the outside, it looked healthy; spiritually, it sounded right. But underneath, I was ignoring how rushed my soul felt and how heavy my body was carrying everything. And I didn’t realize it then, but I wasn’t always “pressing on” because I was free. Sometimes I was just afraid to stop. That’s what I want to slow down and talk about today. I want to start today with something that might feel uncomfortably familiar - you finally get a quiet moment, and almost immediately, your thoughts show up. Something you replay from earlier and before you realize it, your body feels tense, and your mind is off and running. If quiet moments tend to make your thoughts louder instead of calmer, if stillness feels more stressful than restful, or if you usually reach for noise, distraction, or productivity to avoid what might come up, this episode is for you. Because the issue isn’t that you can’t be still, it’s that no one ever showed you how to stay present without getting pulled into the spiral. Many of us know the “what if” loop all too well. "What if I made the wrong decision?" "What if this situation gets worse?" "What if I missed what God was telling me?" Suddenly, your mind is ten steps ahead, trying to predict or control every possible outcome. It’s exhausting mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, even when you’re trying to trust God. If you’ve ever found yourself replaying scenarios, rehearsing conversations, or bracing for the next “what if,” this episode is for you. I'm unpacking why your mind keeps spinning and how noticing the loop can be the first step toward stepping out of it. Does this sound familiar? It’s late, you’re exhausted, but your mind won’t slow down. You’re replaying what was said, what you chose, what you wish you could still change - and somewhere in that loop, a well-meaning thought shows up: “Just give it to God.” You try to sit with that idea, but instead of calm, everything inside you tightens. Because letting go sounds spiritual, but holding on feels safer. If you’ve ever wondered why surrender feels more stressful than control, this conversation is for you. We’re going to talk about why “giving it to God” isn’t always as simple as it sounds, and what might actually be happening inside you when your mind refuses to let go. Have you ever gone through a season where you were sincerely trying to follow God - praying, seeking Him, doing what you believed was right - and yet the situation you were in still felt painful or unresolved? When that happens, it can create a quiet inner tension. Part of you wants to keep trusting, but another part starts scanning for what might have gone wrong. Questions begin to surface: Did I misunderstand something? Did I miss God somewhere along the way? If you’ve ever wrestled with those thoughts during a hard season, today’s conversation is for you. Have you ever been told, “Just trust God,” and instead of relief, you felt tension or even guilt? Like if you could really trust Him, you wouldn’t be replaying decisions, bracing for what’s next, or second-guessing every step. If that resonates, you’re not alone. This episode is about why those words, even when well-meaning, often land like pressure instead of peace and what’s really happening beneath the surface when your mind, emotions, and body aren’t yet aligned with trust. Have you ever read the words “Do not be afraid” and felt a quiet disconnect inside? You want to trust them, but your body hasn’t caught up yet. So many women carry this unspoken tension: a genuine belief in God’s goodness alongside a nervous system that still feels braced, alert, or unsettled. If you’ve ever thought, "I believe this is true, so why doesn’t it feel true?" this episode is for you. Today we’re going to talk about that gap, not with pressure to fix it, but with space to understand what’s really happening when faith is present, but fear still shows up. Today I want to ask a question that might feel uncomfortable at first, but it matters more than we realize. When you think about God, do you feel drawn in or do you tense up a little inside? A lot of believers say they “fear the Lord,” but what they’re actually carrying is fear of God - fear of disappointing Him, mishearing Him, or getting something wrong. Those two experiences may sound similar on the surface, but they lead to very different fruit in your life. And if your relationship with God has felt more anxious than secure, this episode is going to help you understand why. Today, I'm stepping into a topic that a lot of people carry quietly, often with more fear and shame than they ever say out loud - intrusive thoughts. Those sudden thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere, feel unsettling, and immediately make you question yourself. What makes them so distressing isn’t just that they appear, but how convincing they feel in the moment. If you’ve ever found yourself spiraling, wondering what it says about you, your faith, or your heart because of a thought you never asked for, this episode is for you. You are safe. You are not broken. And you don’t have to fight your mind to walk with God. The Bible tells us to forgive, and many of us truly want to. We agree with it, we believe it, and we’ve even made the intentional choice to forgive. But what happens when your heart says you’ve forgiven, but your body still reacts? Too often, Scripture gets used to rush people past pain instead of walking them through healing. In this episode, I'm talking honestly about why forgiveness can be sincere while the pain still lives in your body, and why that doesn’t mean you’re doing faith wrong. Have you ever heard the phrase “be still and let the Lord fight for you” and felt an immediate knot in your chest because you genuinely don’t know how to do that? You want to trust God, but your mind keeps racing, your body stays tense, and everything in you feels like it needs to stay alert, just in case. Stillness sounds spiritual, but when you’re overwhelmed, pressured, or uncertain, it can feel unrealistic or even unsafe. In this episode, we’re slowing down to look at what Exodus 14:14 actually invites us into and why “being still” is often the most confronting part of faith. Have you ever been told (or told yourself) that if you truly trusted God, fear wouldn’t keep showing up? That peace would come more naturally, your thoughts would settle faster, and your body wouldn’t feel so tense all the time? But instead, you feel worn down. Mentally alert but physically tired. Spiritually anchored, yet internally unsettled. And when fear surfaces, it doesn’t feel like rebellion; it feels like your system is overwhelmed. What if that fear isn’t evidence of weak faith, but a signal from a body that has learned to stay protective to survive? Trust feels spiritual, but so often it’s physical. When life starts to feel unpredictable, our bodies are usually the first to react through tight shoulders, racing thoughts, or a constant urge to stay one step ahead of what might happen. Struggling to trust God in an uncertain season doesn’t mean your faith is weak; it often means your body remembers what it felt like when things fell apart before. I often hear my coaching clients say, “I know God is good, but I don’t feel safe.” And that gap - the one between what you believe and what your body feels - is where trust often gets complicated. If you want to trust God even though everything in you wants control, this episode is for you. The stretch from late 2024 into 2025 marked one of the most significant seasons of loss I’ve ever walked through - loss of people, roles, income, rhythms, and even parts of my identity that had defined me for years. At the same time, my body was quietly telling a story I could no longer ignore. I wasn’t collapsing or falling apart on the outside, but inside, I felt tired, disconnected, and unsure of how to want things again. This episode isn’t just about weight loss or strength training, it’s about what happens when a body that’s been in survival for a long time finally asks for kindness, patience, and a slower way forward. Maybe you worry about disappointing God, choosing the wrong path, or mishearing what He wants, and that fear keeps you from moving forward at all. Sometimes the holidays feel less like a celebration and more like emotional survival. For me, it’s been a tender season. It's been one year since my mom passed, and the emotions still run deep. Maybe you’ve felt that too - sadness surfacing when you were expecting joy, or overwhelm sneaking in while you try to stay present. If that resonates, I want you to know something that can help. This week, my course Untangle Your Thoughts is 50% off for Black Friday, giving you tools to regulate your emotions, quiet spiraling thoughts, and experience real peace with God in the middle of the holiday chaos. Remember, the goal isn’t to avoid holiday emotions; it’s to move through them with awareness, grace, and a calm heart, even when the season stirs up more than you expected. There was a season where I kept thinking, “If I could just hold everything together, maybe I wouldn’t fall apart.” But when things didn’t go the way I wanted - when someone pulled away, when life got messy - it broke something in me. For the longest time, I thought my anxiety was intuition. I could always spot what might go wrong, so I assumed it meant I was being careful. But what I’ve learned is that the brain confuses hypervigilance for safety - it’s working overtime to avoid pain that’s already in the past. Do you ever pray and feel like your words are bouncing off the ceiling? You pour out your heart, ask for help, for relief, or even just a sign, and it feels like silence. The days drag on, the questions keep piling up, and you start wondering, “God, do You even see me?” That tension - the ache of feeling unseen while storms rage around you - is something I’ve wrestled with more times than I can count. In this episode, we’ll explore what it really means when God seems silent, why His quiet presence is actually evidence of His care, and how to anchor your heart in the truth that He is with you even in the storm. Do you ever catch yourself saying things in your head that you would never say to a friend? Things like, “Why can’t you just get it together?” or “You should be over this by now.” For a long time, I thought that kind of self-talk was motivating me to grow, but really, it just kept me stuck in shame. In this episode, we’ll talk about the difference between self-criticism and self-compassion in Christ, why the critic in your head is not the same as God’s voice, and how to begin shifting into a kinder, more Christ-centered way of speaking to yourself. Have you ever said “yes” when everything inside of you wanted to say “no”? Maybe it was helping out when you were already stretched thin, or agreeing to avoid letting someone down. That guilty tug you feel afterward isn’t proof you’re selfish - it’s often a sign you need healthier boundaries. In this episode, we’ll discuss how to set boundaries without guilt, how Jesus modeled them, and how they can actually strengthen your relationships instead of straining them. Do you ever feel like you’re moving through life on autopilot - exhausted, tense, or numb - and you can’t figure out why? You’re praying, showing up, doing all the “right” things, but your body still feels like it’s bracing for impact. That’s often what survival mode looks like - your nervous system stuck in protection mode long after the real threat has passed. In this episode, we’re going to talk about how to recognize the signs, why it’s not a faith failure, and how God wants to meet you right in the middle of it. We’ve all heard it - “renew your mind.” It’s one of those phrases that sounds powerful on Sunday, but feels impossible on Monday when negative thoughts won’t quit. I know that cycle personally: waking up already discouraged, fighting fear before the day even starts, and wondering if I was broken because I couldn’t just “think positive.” What I had to learn is that renewing your mind isn’t about ignoring your thoughts or stuffing them down; it’s about inviting God into the process of noticing, naming, and replacing what isn’t true. That’s what we’re unpacking in this episode.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Learn more about working with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.jessicahottle.com/mental-health-coachingOr book your free 20-minute consultation here!Check out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shopWork with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected] information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or clinical advice. So often we think healing is supposed to feel light and happy, but the reality is that it can be messy, repetitive, and downright uncomfortable. The church doesn’t always give us language for this, and social media usually skips the hard parts, showing only the highlight reel of freedom. But real healing often means sitting in emotions that don’t feel good, practicing rhythms that feel too simple, and learning to honor your body as the place where God Himself dwells. In this conversation, we’ll talk about what healing actually looks like and why not feeling “good” doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. Have you ever noticed how you can be praying, declaring truth, and reminding yourself of God’s promises, yet still feel fear sitting heavy in your chest? It’s easy to assume that means your faith is weak. But what if that fear isn’t failure, it’s simply your body’s way of saying, “I don’t feel safe right now”? In this episode, I'm unpacking how faith and fear can coexist, and why your nervous system often needs calm before your spirit can fully lean into trust.Rooting for you,Jessica Click here to get 30% off my Untangle Your Thoughts program today AND get access to my course Biblical Framework to Overcome Emotional Eating for FREE!Or book your free 20-minute consultation here!Email me at >> [email protected] information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or clinical advice. Ever had one of those days where you’re convinced you’re spiraling, only to realize hours later you haven’t had an actual meal? Maybe it’s not burnout or a character flaw - maybe it’s just that your body is running on fumes. The truth is, your mood, energy, and focus are all deeply tied to how (and when) you fuel yourself. In this episode, I'm breaking down how something as simple as blood sugar can shape your emotions and why even God built rhythms of eating and resting into the way we’re designed. I used to think peace was something I could force. If I just prayed harder, thought better, or pushed through, surely I’d feel normal again. But even in quiet rooms and calm moments, my body was buzzing. I couldn’t shake the edge, the restlessness, the sense that something was off. And for a while, I thought that meant I was the problem. But I’ve come to understand what felt like “too much” was actually my body asking for safety. In this episode, I'm talking about nervous system dysregulation, and why feeling overwhelmed doesn’t make you broken - it makes you a human who’s ready to heal. Some people can see their anxiety. For others, it’s invisible, but it’s there. In the clenched jaw. The afternoon exhaustion that doesn’t match your calendar. The sudden wave of overwhelm in the middle of a normal day. You’re not falling apart - you’re carrying something your body hasn’t had a chance to release yet. In this episode, I'm talking about the kind of anxiety that hides in plain sight and how to start listening to your body before it reaches a breaking point. Here’s the part we’re often afraid to say out loud: Sometimes the hardest part of pain isn’t the loss, it’s the way it shakes your view of God. You trusted Him. You prayed. You believed. And still, the relationship ended. The diagnosis came. The door closed. And deep down, a quiet question started forming: “God… where were You?” If you’ve ever felt that tension between faith and disappointment, you’re not alone. In fact, naming that wrestle may be the first step toward healing. Today, we’re going to gently uncover some of the hidden beliefs pain can plant about God—and invite His truth into those places. It’s easy to feel like you’re failing spiritually, as if your faith just isn’t strong enough. But what if your struggle isn’t a spiritual weakness at all? What if your body’s just stuck in a survival loop and your mind can’t access the peace you already know in your spirit? Ever felt like your emotions are either locked in a vault or completely flooding the room? One moment you’re holding it all together and the next, you’re either shutting down or snapping. If you’ve been stuck in that all-or-nothing cycle, you’re not alone. Most of us were never taught how to befriend our emotions, only to control or avoid them. But emotional regulation isn’t about being cold or stoic, it’s about learning how to stay rooted when the storm inside starts to rise. I want to show you how to feel without falling apart and why God’s not asking you to suppress your emotions, but to bring them into His presence. You want to help. It feels noble - maybe even necessary. You’re the one who jumps in, figures it out, and holds it all together. And when someone you love is struggling? You can feel the pull in your chest, like you’re supposed to do something. But here’s the hard truth: sometimes our fixing isn’t actually compassion, it’s control dressed up like care. We’re not just trying to help… we’re trying to keep the peace, avoid the fallout, and prove we’re worthy of being needed. But that’s a weight your soul was never meant to carry. Do you ever find yourself stuck in the past, even when you’re trying to move on? Maybe you’ve forgiven, maybe you’ve prayed… but there’s a moment that keeps popping back up. A conversation, a betrayal, a memory you didn’t ask for, but it shows up anyway. Not because you’re dramatic or faithless, but because your heart is still holding the weight of it. That’s not weakness. That’s a signal. Healing doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t happen. It means learning how to revisit the memory, with God in it this time. Ever feel like you’re doing all the right things - praying, trying to trust God, maybe even journaling or setting goals - but you’re still stuck in the same place emotionally or spiritually? You’re not alone. A lot of us assume if we’re not moving forward, it must be a lack of faith. But sometimes, what’s actually keeping us stuck isn’t our faith at all - it’s a quiet belief under the surface that’s holding us back. Not something obvious, but something internal that needs a little more attention and a lot more grace. Today’s episode gets personal—and maybe a little uncomfortable. I'm talking about the lies we believe about ourselves—and the truth that sets us free. These aren’t just surface-level insecurities. They’re the quiet, unspoken beliefs that sneak into your mind when no one’s looking. Beliefs like “I’m too much,” “I’m not enough,” or “I’ll never get it right.” They don’t start as facts, but over time, they feel true—because they’ve been repeated in pain, shame, or silence. The way you see yourself isn’t just shaping your confidence—it’s shaping your choices, your relationships, and your faith. So today, let’s peel back the layers and start getting honest about the lies—and the freedom on the other side. Today’s topic is one that hits deep for so many: “How trauma affects your view of God—and how to heal it.” In this episode, I'm talking about the connection between what you’ve lived through and what you believe about God. Because here’s the hard truth: trauma doesn’t just live in your past—it can live in your theology. But the beautiful truth is this: Your view of God may have been shaped by pain, but it can be reshaped by truth. “Take every thought captive.” Sounds powerful, right? But let’s be real -what does that actually look like when you’re in the carpool line, the inbox is overflowing, or your inner critic is running wild before you even had your coffee? If your mind ever feels like a battlefield, this episode is for you. Because taking every thought captive isn’t about perfect mental control—it’s about gently, intentionally aligning your thoughts with God’s truth, one moment at a time. Ever catch yourself thinking, “Why can’t I just trust God already?” Like if you were more spiritual, more mature, or more faithful, this wouldn’t be so hard? If that’s you, you’re not alone. And you’re not failing. Here’s the truth I want you to carry into this episode: Sometimes your struggle to trust God isn’t a lack of faith - it’s a sign of a deeper wound. In this episode, we’re going to explore how your early relationships, past pain, and nervous system responses can impact your connection with God—and how healing trust is not only possible, it’s something God wants to walk with you through. Ever felt like you're doing all the right things—checking the boxes, showing up, pushing through—but deep down, you know you're running on empty? That’s not laziness, weakness, or failure. That’s survival mode. And God never meant for you to live stuck there. In this episode, I want to talk about what survival mode really is, how to recognize it in your everyday life, and—most importantly—how to step out of it with God. Because you weren’t created to just get through life. You were made to live it—fully, freely, and with Him. If you grew up being told to “stop crying,” “toughen up,” or “just be grateful,” you’re not alone. Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to mistrust our emotions or even feel ashamed for having them. But I want to shift that narrative today—because your emotions are not a spiritual failure or a sign of weakness. They are signals, not sins. Emotions are how God wired us, not something He’s asking us to overcome. Have you ever felt like God was distant—like no matter how much you prayed, you couldn’t hear Him? Maybe deep down, you’re carrying unspoken disappointment or even resentment toward Him. It’s not that you don’t believe He’s good, but a part of you wonders, "If He really loves me, why did He allow these things to happen?" Without realizing it, we can hold judgments against God, using our pain as evidence that He isn’t trustworthy. But here’s the thing—God isn’t the one who hurt you. And rebuilding trust with Him isn’t about pretending your wounds don’t exist. It’s about bringing them to Him, boldly and honestly, and allowing His truth to rewrite the story you’ve been telling yourself. Do you ever feel like you’re losing yourself while trying to keep everyone else happy? You’re not alone. People-pleasing is exhausting—it tricks us into thinking that if we can keep everyone else content, we’ll finally feel safe, accepted, or worthy. But the truth is, people-pleasing often comes at the cost of our own well-being. Whether it’s the fear of rejection, a need for approval, or the belief that loving others means ignoring yourself, this pattern slowly steals your peace. But here’s the good news: You don’t have to keep living that way. Let’s talk about what it really means to love others without losing yourself in the process.Rooting for you,JessicaResources:What Is the Fawn Response? Have you ever wrestled with the idea of denying yourself, wondering if it means you don’t matter? Many of us have been taught to put others before ourselves, but somewhere along the way, that message got distorted into believing our feelings, needs, and limits don’t count. When we internalize this misunderstanding, setting boundaries can feel wrong—almost as if we’re going against God. But what if denying ourselves doesn’t mean becoming invisible or neglecting our well-being? What if it actually means surrendering our will to God while still honoring the way He created us? Let’s explore what Jesus truly meant by self-denial and how it aligns with living a healthy, God-honoring life—one where boundaries and love coexist. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the weight of your responsibilities, struggling to say no even when you know you should? Many of us were never taught how to set boundaries, and as a result, we allow situations, people, and even our own expectations to push us beyond what is healthy. Setting boundaries isn’t about controlling others—it’s about taking responsibility for what we will and will not allow in our lives. It’s about recognizing our limits and having the courage to say, “This is too far.” Whether it’s with our time, our relationships, or ourselves, boundaries are a necessary part of living with wisdom and peace. But in order to set them well, we need to understand the key factors that shape them—what we value, our personal capacity, and the reality that sometimes, setting a boundary means letting go. Have you ever hesitated to come to God because you were afraid of His punishment? Maybe you’ve wondered if your struggles are proof that He’s angry with you. If so, you’re not alone. From childhood, many of us have been conditioned to fear punishment—it’s why we instinctively react with punishment rather than discipline when others fail. This fear leads us to hide our pain rather than confront it, convincing us that God responds to our failures the same way. But here’s the truth: there’s a difference between facing the consequences of sin and being punished for sinning. Understanding this difference changes how we see God—not as a harsh judge eager to condemn, but as a loving Father who corrects us for our good. Ever find yourself snapping at someone out of nowhere, feeling the urge to run from a situation, shutting down completely, or agreeing to things just to keep the peace? These are all ways our bodies respond to stress—and you’re not alone in experiencing them. In today’s episode, we’re diving into the fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses. We’ll explore how your nervous system reacts when it senses a threat (real or imagined) and, more importantly, how to reset when you feel stuck in survival mode.Whether you tend to lash out, shut down, run away, or people-please, there are practical tools to help you come back to a place of calm—and we’ll explore how biblical truths can guide us there too. Forgiveness—it’s one of the hardest things to talk about, let alone work through. Most of the people I work with don’t even touch the topic of forgiveness until several sessions in. And it’s no wonder—our pain tells us that forgiving means letting someone off the hook. But what if that’s not true? What if forgiveness isn’t about excusing what happened but about freeing ourselves from the weight of it? In this episode, I'm unpacking the complexities of forgiveness—why we struggle with it, the difference between decisional and emotional forgiveness, and the subtle signs that we might still be holding on to hurt. If you’ve ever found yourself replaying the past, avoiding certain people, or waiting for an apology that may never come, this conversation is for you. Have you ever wrestled with the question, “If God is good, then why did this painful thing happen to me?” When we’re deep in hurt, the idea of a loving God can feel impossible to reconcile with our suffering. It’s not about struggling with prayer or faith itself—it’s about wrestling with who God is in the midst of pain.In this episode, I'm opening up this conversation, not to offer quick-fix answers, but to create space for the real questions so many of us carry. We’ll explore what it means to hold both realities—a broken world and a loving God—without dismissing the weight of our experiences. Healing doesn’t come from clichés or easy answers, but from being heard, understood, and reminded of who God truly is.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Learn more about working with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.jessicahottle.com/mental-health-coachingOr book your free 20-minute consultation here!Check out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shopWork with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected] information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or clinical advice. Have you ever felt like God is silent or distant during your most painful moments? If so, you’re not alone. In today’s episode, we’re addressing the heartache of feeling abandoned by God and how these emotions shape our view of His presence. We’ll take a closer look at why these feelings arise, how our circumstances can cloud our understanding of God, and what Scripture says about His unwavering love. Have you ever found yourself constantly trying to keep the peace, avoiding conflict, or prioritizing others’ needs at the expense of your own? While these behaviors may seem like acts of kindness or love, they often stem from a deeper trauma response called the fawn response. In today’s episode, we’re exploring the fawn response from a nervous system perspective—what it is, why it happens, and how it impacts our emotional, relational, and spiritual health. Together, we’ll uncover how this response, rooted in fear, can lead to patterns of people-pleasing that drain our energy and distort our sense of identity. Most importantly, we’ll discuss how God’s truth and grace can empower us to break free from this cycle and embrace the freedom He intends for us.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Learn more about working with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.jessicahottle.com/mental-health-coachingOr book your free 20-minute consultation here!Check out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shopWork with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected] information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or clinical advice. As we step into 2025, I’ve noticed a common thread that keeps so many of us from experiencing emotional and physical healing: a lack of self-awareness and ownership over what we can control. Here’s the truth: we can’t heal what we keep hidden. In this episode, I’m unpacking how growing in self-awareness, taking responsibility, and allowing God’s light to reveal the hidden places in our hearts can set us on the path to freedom and healing. I want to share my journey with you because I've learned some powerful truths about emotional regulation, stress, and how we handle pain. For almost a year, I stepped away from something I loved—strength training. Not because it wasn’t good for me, but because God was asking me a hard question: “Is this good for your body right now?”That question was humbling. As a health coach for almost 14 years, I’d always focused on the external—workouts, meal plans, and supplements. And while those things are helpful, I’ve realized that true healing doesn’t start there. The real question isn’t about food, workouts, or your body. The real question is this: Are you handling your pain, offenses, and beliefs in a healthy way?In today’s episode, we’ll talk about the beliefs that might be holding you back, the ways unprocessed pain shows up in your life, and how surrendering to God can change everything.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Learn more about working with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.jessicahottle.com/mental-health-coachingOr book your free 20-minute consultation here!Check out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shopWork with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected] information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or clinical advice. Have you ever found yourself wanting to lose weight or make a positive change, but your actions just don’t line up with your intentions? You know what you want—to feel better, to be healthier, to grow spiritually—but there’s this frustrating disconnect between your mind, your heart, and what you actually do. Whether it’s reaching for that snack you promised yourself you wouldn’t eat, skipping the project you know would bring relief, or struggling to find time for prayer even when you long for a deeper connection with God, the question lingers: Why do I do the things I don’t want to do instead of what I know I should? This isn’t just about willpower—it’s about what’s happening in both our hearts and minds. Today, we’re exploring this age-old struggle through both a biblical and psychological lens to uncover the root of resistance and find practical ways to overcome it. For the past four months, nearly every morning, I’ve started my day with a quiet ritual: stepping outside, grounding myself by putting my feet in the grass (or snow) and soaking in 8 to 10 minutes of morning sunlight. In this episode, we’re diving into the power of rest, silence, and intentionality. We'll explore how embracing stillness not only helps us reconnect with our bodies and minds but also with God. Together, we’ll unpack the discomfort of silence, why we tend to avoid it, and how learning to sit with our feelings can lead to healing. Today's episode is very personal for me. We often hold onto pain because it reassures us paradoxically, convincing us to guard our hearts and mistrust the world around us. Pain can trick us into believing that love and trust will only lead to more suffering, pushing us into isolation and away from peace. Reflecting on my journey, especially during the time I became my mother's medical power of attorney after 14 years of no contact, I've come to realize how pain can dominate our lives. My mother's passing brought to light the enduring impact of her pain, which kept her from embracing love and reconciliation. This experience taught me the importance of confronting and challenging our pain rather than letting it define us. In this episode, I share these insights to encourage you to reevaluate how pain might be influencing your life and to inspire you to open up to healing, love, and peace. You're going to notice something a little different today! This episode is extra special because I’m sharing an interview I had with K-LOVE, a nationally recognized Christian radio station. I was honored to be featured in their “Positive People” segment, which aired locally in Pittsburgh, PA. In this conversation, we dive into the theme of walking through pain—what it means to face it, hold it, and ultimately grow through it. I share parts of my journey, my work as a Christian Mental Health Coach, and how I help women untangle the thoughts that hold them back. We also discuss how our beliefs about God shape how we experience life, why it's essential to reconcile pain with faith and the power of addressing root issues without dwelling in the past. Suffering is one of life’s hardest realities, but it’s important to know that God never chose suffering for us. His original design was perfect, free from pain and brokenness. Suffering entered the world through humanity’s choice to sin, not because it was part of God’s plan. In this episode, we explore where suffering comes from, why God allows it, and how He uses it for His purposes. We discuss the role of free will, different views on God’s sovereignty, and how suffering impacts our faith. While pain is a consequence of living in a broken world, God can use it to refine us, strengthen our character, and teach us to rely on Him. Above all, we’ll share the hope found in God’s redemptive plan. He is close to us in our pain and promises to restore all things through His love. Today I'm delving into a common yet often unspoken struggle: the need for approval. For many, this desire becomes so ingrained that it can feel impossible to escape, creating a sense of entrapment that often goes unnoticed. In this episode, I’ll explore the root causes of approval-seeking behavior, why it’s so challenging to break free, and the steps we can take to overcome it. I'll also give an overview of attachment styles and the impact they have on our relationships and self-worth. Let's unpack how we can start shifting from a need for others' approval to living with confidence in who we are in Christ. Last month, I talked about the difference between a mental health coach and a counselor, and today, I want to take it a step further. We’re diving into what it really looks like to work with a Christian mental health coach. As a trauma-informed life coach, my goal is to help my clients grow emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Coaching is all about meeting you where you are, setting goals, and taking real steps toward the life you want. It’s different from counseling—I don’t diagnose or treat things like PTSD or bipolar disorder—but I do help you tackle everyday challenges, whether that's setting boundaries, managing stress, or navigating relationships. Every client I work with gets a personalized action plan. We also talk through tough stuff—like those moments when you’re frustrated with God—and create space where you can be real, without any judgment. Sometimes, we touch on past pain, but the focus is always on moving forward. Today, we’re diving into a topic that many believers experience - the dark night of the soul. If you’ve ever felt distant from God, like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, or that you’re spiritually wandering through a desert, this episode is for you. In this episode, I'll define "the dark night of the soul," some reasons we go through it, and share some uncommon, yet powerful, ways to walk through this challenging season. Remember, this isn't the end of your story. God is with you, even in the silence, and He’s doing a deeper work in you than you may realize. Embrace the stillness, care for your body, lament honestly, and let go of the need to ‘do’ more. Trust that in time, the light will break through. In today’s episode, I delve into the experiences of those who grew up as the ‘good child’—the one who followed the rules, stayed out of trouble, and asked for little, yet often felt neglected or overlooked. As adults, many of these individuals find themselves in a constant cycle of seeking approval and validation. We will explore the reasons behind this, its roots in past experiences, and, most importantly, how to heal from it with Christ. Pain, whether physical or emotional, can lead us to question God’s goodness and presence in our lives. We might wonder, "Has God abandoned me?" or "Why is this happening to me?" These doubts can leave us feeling isolated from Him. In this episode, I explore the false beliefs that can arise from pain, such as thinking it's a form of punishment or that we're unworthy of God’s love. These distorted thoughts often keep us stuck in a cycle of guilt, shame, and self-punishment, but there is hope! Listen as I explain how to replace these lies with biblical truth, using both scripture and practical tools like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe our thoughts and reconnect with God. In this episode, we're diving into three common Christian phrases that, while often spoken with good intentions, might be doing more harm than good. Have you ever heard or even said things like, "All things work together for good," "Everything happens for a reason," or "God allowed this to happen"? These phrases can be problematic when taken out of context or misused. Today, we’ll explore why some of these statements aren't even biblical, how others depend on your view of God’s sovereignty, and when it's crucial to share them with care. Welcome back, friend! I'm so glad you're joining me for today's episode, which dives into a deeply personal topic I’ve had to walk through myself. This isn’t something I talk about lightly—it's a question I hear often from my one-on-one coaching clients: "Why doesn’t God heal me?" While I’m not addressing physical healing today, I want to talk about healing in terms of emotional pain and brokenness, and how it relates to our beliefs about God’s love for us. If you’ve ever wondered why you still carry pain or questioned if God is withholding healing, this conversation is for you. We’ll explore what it means to open our hearts and invite God into those difficult places, because healing starts with surrender. In today’s episode, we’re tackling a powerful and often misunderstood belief: the idea that God is punishing us for the challenges we face in life. Many of us feel guilty, thinking we deserve the hardships we're going through. But God's boundaries are set out of love, not punishment. Together we’ll explore the difference between discipline, consequence, and punishment, and how to break free from the cycle of self-condemnation. If you’ve ever felt like you need to "fix" yourself before coming to God, this episode will offer clarity, encouragement, and a fresh perspective. Have you ever set a boundary and then felt guilty afterward, wondering if you were now the "bad person" in someone else's story? In today's episode, we dive deep into that exact feeling—the guilt that comes with standing up for yourself. We explore why this happens, how pain and self-worth play a role, and what you can do to move past it. Setting boundaries is less about keeping people out and more about creating healthier, more respectful relationships—even if it sometimes feels uncomfortable. If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I forgive them,” but still feel weighed down by lingering anger or hurt, this episode is for you. This week, I dive into the often-overlooked factor that keeps us stuck in the process of forgiveness: blame. As someone who struggled to forgive for years, I know this is a hard topic, but my story has offered me valuable insight into how we can move beyond blame and take responsibility for our healing journey. Forgiveness doesn’t have to include carrying hurt with you forever. By releasing blame and taking responsibility for our healing, we can move forward with clarity and peace. “I bet you thought life wasn’t fair.” If you're a regular listener familiar with my family history, you can understand why someone would say this to me. And they're right - life isn't fair. But here's a different perspective: life in a broken world isn’t guaranteed fair or painless. However, God promises to be with you through it all. This doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real or that life has been easy. It means you’re not chasing fairness; you’re pursuing righteousness. The world often tries to make us choose sides and see things in black and white, especially regarding pain and healing. But sometimes, healing can coexist with moments of pain, joy can mix with sorrow, and grief can accompany hope. You can transition from seeing yourself as a victim to recognizing yourself as a survivor. Your heart changes when you focus on pursuing righteousness and what God calls you to do, rather than trying to understand everything. Faith isn’t about understanding; it’s about standing with God. I want to talk about something that is tough, but super important - forgiveness, reconciliation, and repentance. For years, I struggled with what others expected me to do versus what God told me. It was a constant battle because these opinions came from people I deeply respected. But every time, something inside me stopped. It took years and some recent experiences to realize that this hesitation was God protecting me.People often confuse forgiveness and reconciliation, thinking they’re the same thing. But they’re not. And repentance isn’t just about saying sorry to excuse bad behavior—it’s about truly changing. Forgiveness starts with God — it’s not just about saying, “I forgive you.” It’s about letting go of resentment while still acknowledging the pain.Reconciliation, on the other hand, is like two people with drawbridges. Both have to be willing to lower their bridges to rebuild the connection. Trust isn’t instantly restored; it has to be earned and maintained.Repentance means turning back to God. It’s a genuine response to godly sorrow, which is a profound recognition of our sins and shortcomings. This sorrow leads to repentance, changing our minds, hearts, and direction. It’s redemptive and life-giving, making us more receptive to God's grace and compassionate towards others. No matter the relationship—whether it’s with a friend, family member, partner, or spouse—these three elements will always be part of the process if both people are willing to work on it.Get my biblical study on forgiveness here! Are you dealing with pain, but you feel like no one acknowledges it? Maybe someone tells you that you're the problem, or someone you care about manipulates or gaslights you. It's easy to feel like you're the issue, thinking you're a burden or no one cares about you. When bad things happen, the last thing you want to do is face them head-on. It's much easier to shut down, isolate yourself, and distract yourself with food, movies, or endless scrolling. Escaping reality feels better than dealing with pain. I know this because I used to escape pain by holding onto anger and pretending everything was okay. I kept myself busy to avoid thinking about it, hoping time would make it go away. But time alone doesn't heal; healing comes when we actively work through our pain over time. In this episode, I share three key things I've learned about processing pain in a healthy way with God. Remember, there's a loving Father who cares deeply about your pain and is with you through every step of your healing journey. The topic of today's episode is very personal because I've been learning lately through my relationship with God about letting go of offenses. It's about not letting myself think poorly of someone just because of how they react to my pain. It's tough, but our expectations of others often set us up for disappointment. Sure, it's healthy to have expectations in relationships, but when I start needing others to fulfill my needs before turning to Jesus, things get tricky. Often, when we have expectations, we want others to fill a void or a need. But some days, I don’t even know what I need or feel, so how can I expect someone else to meet a need I haven't identified yet? In relationships, it's natural to expect to be seen, heard and loved. However, relationships can be messy because they involve two imperfect people with different experiences and beliefs. Remember, their response to your decision is not yours to carry. What matters is how you respond.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Work with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.coachjessica.comCheck out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shopWork with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected]
If you're a Christian, or even if you've just considered it, you've likely wrestled with feeling like you need to get better before God will accept you. Why would you expect God to forgive you if you can't even forgive yourself? This mindset leads to isolation from God and others who might hurt us again. However, when we forgive ourselves, we heal through compassion—not self-centered compassion, but one led by the Holy Spirit. A healthy relationship with ourselves begins with a healthy relationship with God. If we judge ourselves based on our performance rather than His grace, we end up living under guilt and condemnation. It's about finding the balance—being kind to ourselves without being self-indulgent, being proud without being prideful, and saying kind things about ourselves without being conceited. Practically speaking, as we practice receiving God's compassion and grace, we'll see His goodness in our daily efforts. Ever found yourself letting someone say or do whatever they wanted to you, even when it felt wrong? Or maybe you’ve kept someone or something in your life longer than you should have because confronting it felt too overwhelming. It’s often easier to endure the pain of staying silent than to face the discomfort of speaking up. Setting boundaries requires understanding who we are in Christ, dealing with our pain, and communicating clearly. They are essential for true, genuine love in relationships, allowing us to connect while protecting our well-being. It’s not about making rules but fostering healthy, respectful relationships. Have you ever felt that what people say or do to you defines who you are? We often conflate actions — whether ours or others’— with our identity. For example, if you make a mistake, you might think that makes you a bad person. This is a natural, but misleading way to view ourselves. What if you viewed yourself through the lens of God's love rather than your actions? In this episode, I talk about understanding shame, personal growth through humility, the role of negative emotions, and processing guilt and repentance.Think about how you’ve internalized comments or actions. What would it look like to separate your actions from who you are? Recognizing this distinction can lead to a healthier self-view and a deeper relationship with God. We often find ourselves burdened by the weight of responsibilities, expectations, and fears, striving to "keep it all together." But what happens when we allow ourselves to acknowledge that we might not be okay? What if we let go and trust that God is with us through it all? God doesn’t tell us never to have emotions. However, when we choose to abide in our emotions and listen to them without reason, we learn the fruit of that is strife, jealousy, anger, and things like these as shared in Galatians. In this episode, I talk about how we move through our feelings so our emotions don’t control us. Navigating our emotions biblically and practically involves blending spiritual wisdom with tangible actions. This means taking time to honestly reflect on our feelings, allowing us to address them with humility and openness. Integrating biblical principles with practical strategies empowers us to handle our emotions with grace, resilience, and a firm trust in God's plan. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you desperately needed to take care of yourself, but the overwhelming feelings of guilt and shame held you back? This struggle is real, and many of us have experienced it. But why do we find it so hard to prioritize our well-being? A healthy relationship with ourselves stems from a healthy relationship with God. What we believe about God we will believe about ourselves and then live as though we believe it. In this episode, I discuss how misunderstanding scripture has led us to deny our emotions, feelings, desires, and wants - especially with our bodies. Let me start by honoring the part of you that's fighting to be seen. God sees you and He knows. Not only does God know, but I also know this fight. I pray that, however hidden you feel, you find comfort in knowing that other women are trying to “get loud” so they can be heard, too. In Hebrews, scripture reminds us that we are not hidden from God. He sees and knows us on an intimate level. But even when the world doesn’t see us, will the Father's seeing us be enough for us? Do we believe He truly sees us and wants to comfort us? And do we allow Him to comfort us? In this episode, I talk through practical steps to train yourself for Godliness, like acknowledging your feelings, reflecting on scripture, and practicing gratitude. You are deeply seen and known by God. Take comfort in knowing that you are never alone, for God's gaze is always upon you, guiding you with His grace and surrounding you with His unfailing love. “I’m just not good enough.” “I should have known better.” “I’m not worthy of forgiveness.” “I always mess things up.” “I’ll never be able to change.” Behind every one of those phrases, we find a piece of ourselves that feels like it should be punished. So, we impose self-punishment and call it "holy," but punishing ourselves is no way to live. Let me ask you this - Do you believe you are forgiven? Fully forgiven, especially when you repent? In this episode, I walk through the steps of genuine repentance, redemption, and restoration through Christ. When we genuinely repent of our sins, God extends His forgiveness to us through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. This forgiveness brings restoration of our relationship with God and freedom from the guilt and condemnation of sin. The topic in today's episode has been on my heart for a while because I've been reflecting on what my life might look like had I chosen to continue to make decisions that kept me headed down the same dark road much of my family has traveled. Maybe you can relate. In this conversation, I pose 3 questions that can help you recognize where you have been participating in generational sin and how to break free. You don't have to be a statistic. It will not be easy but it can be done. I am living proof that even the smallest choice can lead you down a new path. Every day, when our alarms go off and our eyes open, we begin making decisions. By the end of the day, when our heads hit the pillow to do it all over again, we would have made an estimated 35,000 decisions. But we have to do it, right? The family needs to be fed, we need to go to work, and our friendships are important, so the question becomes how do we steward what God has entrusted to us without living overwhelmed by stress or filled with anxiety day in and day out.In this episode, I walk you through two simple, practical things that you can do right away to release stress and refocus your attention back on God. Your childhood, what you have done, what has been done to you, what people have said to you, what people haven’t told you - every one of these sentences when answered holds pieces about who you are; a moment in your life that tried to form you into another image other than your Father’s. Those messages have tried to form this theme: “When you show up as who God has created you to be, you are too much and not enough all at the same time.” However, over the last couple of years, after letting go of some unhealthy relationships, I am thankful for God’s kindness in showing me that who I am in Him is enough, regardless of what it looks like to other people. My hope for this episode is that you get honest with yourself and see what stories you believe about who you are based on your life versus what is based on a solid foundation of the Father’s love for you. I hear the pain in my coaching client's words when they say, “I feel like God is punishing me.” Many of the women who go through my programs and coaching one-to-one have been taught a view of God that is vengeful, full of wrath, and all punishment. They fear that when they don’t do something perfect God will punish them for it. If our theology of God isn’t based on His goodness, then when things happen that we didn’t expect or plan for, it’s easy to think God is punishing us. But God doesn’t bring punishment; he does, however, discipline us. In this episode, I walk through what I've learned about the differences between punishment and discipline. God will prune the parts of our lives that do not bear fruit if we allow Him to. Do you often view God as a punisher? Do you have a healthy view of discipline? Let’s talk about it. I am very acquainted with this question - if God is good, why am I in so much pain? In this episode, I share my own story of abuse and striving. Through the years, it has been a process of renewing and redefining all the pain I have gone through with others. It’s also taken time to forgive myself for the pain I caused others and the choices I made. I had to fully receive what Jesus did for me so I could not hold myself to any other standard. When I talk about coaching and counseling women, I don’t come from a place of having arrived or not being able to empathize. I have watched God redeem the broken pieces of my life over and over again and I know He wants to do for you too. Sometimes we have to be willing to love people from a distance because love doesn’t require proximity, other times we commit to love closely. “I don’t know how to process through what I am feeling and struggle with anxiety daily,” a coaching client of mine told me. She continued, “I have been taught my entire life to deny myself, so how do I honor God but also honor who He made me?” Maybe, like my coaching client, you have felt the same way, a world where you need to get yourself together before you can go to God. In this episode, I walk through some scriptures about denying ourselves that are commonly misunderstood and explain how denying our flesh allows our life in Christ to grow, strengthen, and develop. I’m praying you know you can go to God with how you feel. You don’t need to pretend or deny any part of you because He already knows every part. I know this may not feel easy, but freedom is on the other side. A survivor struggles to bring together two irreconcilable realities - God and abuse. “If God is good then why did this not-so-good thing happen to me?” This is a question we ponder when the pain of what happened feels far from anything good. We can see a world where there is pain and suffering without God, but how do we live in a world with a good God AND pain and suffering? That’s what we will be discussing in today’s episode. I want to open up the conversation around the question so many people who are hurting are asking. Anger is an emotion that hits hard, has some of the most intense reactions, and can be felt deeply in the body. It doesn’t matter if you are someone who feels their feelings, shoves down their feelings, or has difficulty communicating them; anger is unavoidable because we are humans living in a fallen world. That is not an excuse for anger but a fact. Anger is one of the most basic emotions we, as humans, feel and experience. I aim to help you befriend the feeling of anger instead of running from it. In this episode, I talk about what happens to our bodies when we experience anger and the normal ways we respond to it. I also offer a few techniques that can help you manage anger and biblical practices we are all called to do by God. With the fast pace of this world, it’s no wonder we are finding ourselves in a constant state of anxious feelings. We think to ourselves that we will deal with it later until later never comes, and we find ourselves lying awake at night trying to process everything all at once. The good news is that the Bible offers wisdom and encouragement in dealing with these feelings. In this episode, I'm talking through a few techniques for overcoming stress and anxiety through both a biblical and clinical perspective and offering practical examples of how to work through anxious feelings. Did you know by the end of the day, when our heads hit the pillow to do it all over again tomorrow, we would have made an estimated 35,000 decisions? That’s a lot of decisions that can come with a lot of feelings - and not all of them are good. The fact is that our feelings are not going to go away. In this episode, I explain three differences when it comes to our feelings that we need to recognize so we can stop relying on our feelings. Today, take the time to check in with yourself - slow down and evaluate where you are with God and your feelings. Remember, it’s about recognizing and honoring where you are and being honest with yourself. It’s about obedience and submission that gives us the strength and courage to rely on God and not our feelings. I know how hard it is to forgive. I think the mistake that many have many over the years is by the phrase, “forgive and forget." First, we must understand there is no limit to which we are to forgive. We don’t get to decide who is worthy of forgiveness and who is not. Despite what they have done or may do, we are called to forgive those who hurt us. Forgiveness is not an emotion. In this episode, I walk you through what it looks like to forgive the hurts that are too hard to forget. Remember, those who forgive, choose to forgive. There’s nothing automatic about forgiveness. It’s a choice of obedience out of love and relationship with God. I know we don't often say that we need to reconcile with someone, but it is a topic that comes up frequently in my coaching. So if your heart is hurting because someone has hurt you and you're trying to figure out how to move forward with this relationship, this episode is for you. In this conversation, I walk through six stages of rebuilding trust. Some of the stages can take longer than others - some stages we may even need to repeat. However, continually showing someone through our actions that we are committed to them, that we value them, and want to repair the trust that was broken will be the greatest gift we can give someone in the healing process. Relationships can be messy and difficult, so in this episode, I'm walking you through 5 ways you can handle those relationships through the lens of faith by seeing them through God's eyes, identifying stressors, and delaying our responses. A proper relationship with yourself starts with a proper relationship with God. If you are always judging yourself by your performance, you will have a horrible relationship with yourself and live under guilt and condemnation. The release of our condemnation doesn’t hinge on our ability to forgive ourselves; our freedom from the strongholds we carry comes through Jesus. We aren’t striving to be set free, we are renewing our minds to stay free. We can’t forgive ourselves, but we can show compassion, patience, kindness, and gentleness toward ourselves in the healing process through the choices we make. In this episode, I explain two different types of forgiveness in scripture and walk through the differences between decisional and emotional forgiveness. “I’ll never be good enough.” “I’m not worthy.” “I don’t deserve to be happy.” Do any of those phrases sound familiar? When we make a mistake it’s easy to miss conviction and move straight to condemnation, which creates a cycle of self-hatred. That is not what God wants for us. In this episode, I explain the difference between condemnation and conviction, how to break free of the weight of feeling unworthy, and what it looks like to repent. Betrayal, whether it's from a family member, spouse, friend, or co-worker can be devastating. So, how do we find hope? In the new year, I am releasing a biblical study on rebuilding trust. In it, I talk about one of the key stages in rebuilding trust in finding security in God before finding security in people. However, in this episode, I walk through scripture that informs us of why forgiveness is the first step to finding hope after betrayal. Forgiveness is not an emotion, it's an act of love and mercy that God has called us to, and the Holy Spirit anoints us to do. Forgiveness is simply the release of debt. Jesus paid our debt that was owed. Forgiving others starts with being forgiven. That is our hope. That we can do this, not by our might or by our feelings but through because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. That’s how we get through this - we take one step at a time. Are you stressed right now? It’s easy for us to feel all the expectations from other people and, if we are honest with ourselves, the expectations we place on others to meet our needs this time of the year. However, the most important thing I have learned about stress is that it comes down to perception. What story do I tell myself every year around this time? Do I look at everything I have to do as a chore or as something I get to do? Do I look at this time of the year as a place of discontentment? It’s okay where you land at this time of the year. It’s hard in general, and then you add in family trauma and history with unhealthy people, and it seems like too much. But what if we could also find a more simple rhythm in our day even when stress feels high? What if we could find a way to keep our nervous system from being overloaded or heightened day in and day out? In this episode, I share practical techniques you can use to help you ground yourself with the help of God and practice silence and solitude in the times you need it most. I feel like when November hits, we can move into a season of either hurry or rest. The holidays can bring a lot of emotional turmoil or joy and also a lot of preparation and tiredness. When that happens, usually one of the first things to go is our time with God or even taking care of our emotional and physical well-being with the Lord. My hope for you today, though is that you don’t let this holiday season happen to you, but that you learn to find the joy, even in the chaos. I recently shared in one of my teachings how I heard this phrase, “The body of Christ is the only army that I know of that shoots its own wounded.” To further this statement they added, "We bury people before they are dead." As Christians, we rush to statements like, "There is a purpose for your pain" or "Everything happens for a reason." Let it be said there are some truths to those statements, however for the moment nothing feels right. The hardest part about all of this is that all of us experience loss. Therefore, all of us grieve. Loss impacts all of us on a deep level. In this episode, I discuss facing losses when we all grieve differently, helpful phrases to use for those around us who are grieving, and helpful tips on how to respond to those who are struggling. If you are currently in a hard or heavy season that feels like it will never come to an end, I hope this episode will be an encouragement to you. During these seasons, the pressure builds and some days it probably feels hard to breathe. But, even through it all, we can cling to a hope that doesn’t lie in the things we can control or the things we can’t control. Our hope lies in the Promise Keeper. Remember, hope isn’t a wish. Hope is a confident expectation that God will do what He says He is going to do. I’ve learned that my hope in hard and heavy seasons hinges on my perspective. Do we trust God to get us through this season? Do we believe He will provide for our needs? Can we trust Him? Depending on those answers will be the hope we feel and experience or the doubt and worry that will consume us. In this episode, we are going to a place together that may feel tough, but I’m putting my big sister hat on to tell you the truth in love because I care. I’m sorry for any time scripture was used against you and your pain to manipulate you or to cause you to stay in a situation of abuse. I want you to know this isn’t God. He’s not okay with how you are being treated by His Word. Jesus' goal isn't to punish you through the Word; the Word isn't to condemn you or to keep you a slave to fixing yourself to be approved by God or to only make others happy while you are stuck in a cycle of abuse, feeling like there is no escape. His Word is meant for encouragement. God cares about your hurt deeply and He desires for you to know that you are loved, capable, and whole in Him. If you’ve been listening for a while, you’ll notice today’s episode is a bit different, but the message is still the same. My passion is to help Christians address the very real mental health struggles they face from depression and anxiety to shame and fear. I’ve wrestled with these issues myself, and while God’s truth is key to us changing our thinking, it’s going to take more than quoting scripture to see real change. It’s time for us to address mental health in the church and my hope is that is podcast will be a first step toward facing off with your feelings and finding healing, hope, and freedom in Christ. Relationships are hard and can sometimes end with us wondering where and why things fell apart. Whether it's something from the past or something happening now, we all want answers. We want to know the reason things happen, especially when they hurt. The hardest part is not knowing. It's like trying to solve a puzzle without all the pieces. Without clear answers, your mind races, thinking of all the things you might have done wrong or what could have happened. This can make you doubt yourself a lot and make it hard to trust others in the future. So, what can we do when we don't get the closure we need?In this episode, I walk you through some foundational steps toward closure. When you're hurt, remember that you don't need someone else to find peace. We may not get the answers we desire, but with God's help, we don't have to stay stuck in our pain, we can find closure and move forward.Rooting for you,JessicaFree 3-Day StudyLearn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way.Get my 3-day study here!Taking the First StepDo you have a hard time accepting God’s love and believing He is good to you and not just good to others? Therefore, sadness after a choice doesn’t mean it’s the wrong one.In this episode, I walk through various physical strategies, emotional techniques, and spiritual practices to help you stop overthinking. REBROADCAST: Our quiet time with God will not always produce a feeling, but we can guarantee that we are becoming transformed. We know this because it’s not about what we do by effort - the Spirit is who brings transformation. In this episode, I explain the purpose of quiet time with God, why it's important, and how to spend your time with Him. The length of the quiet time does not matter, but it should be enough time to meditate on what was read and then pray about it or anything else that comes to mind. Drawing near to God is a rewarding experience, and once a regular habit of quiet time is created, a specific time for study and prayer is eagerly looked forward to. REBROADCAST: The depth we know God is the depth we will be able to trust God. Overcoming anxiety isn’t about pushing away your feelings, ignoring them, or treating what you are going through like nothing. Overcoming anxiety starts with knowing who God is to you and what you believe He believes about you. In this episode, I explain how our physical response to anxiety is connected to the beliefs we carry about God and how scripture instructs us scriptures to handle our cares and what to do with them.Rooting for you, Jessica Next steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Have me as a coach in your corner: https://www.patreon.com/jessicahottleCheck out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shop Work with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected]
REBROADCAST: We can spend years building trust and growing deeper into our relationships only for a moment to occur that can begin to slowly destroy the time invested. When that happens, rebuilding broken trust takes time and the intentional pursuit of restoration. In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when trust is broken, how to rebuild trust with that person by taking Biblical action, and how to learn to trust again. I know repairing broken trust is not easy, but time will help begin to rebuild what was broken. However, it will still take intentional steps to rebuild trust. REBROADCAST: Scripture talks about three kinds of strongholds. One is a fort, fortress, castle, or secure place (a physical place) to be safe against the enemy’s attacks. Another example is when God himself is referred to as our stronghold. The third refers to negative patterns of thinking, prideful thoughts, or worldly messages that have written negative messages on the minds and hearts of believers. In this episode, I'm talking about how you can use God's Word to destroy the negative strongholds in your life. We are called to destroy strongholds, not to compare them, ignore them, or act as though they don't exist. We are to destroy what comes against the Truth, take our thoughts, and make them obedient to Christ. Rooting for you, Jessica Free 3-Day Study Learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way. REBROADCAST: It’s our brokenness that blinds our eyes from the truth and keeps us focused on our pain. We can’t see clearly because our pain changes our perspective, and our perspective directs our path. Over time, ignoring our emotions, feelings, and pain only obscures our vision and ability to see clearly. Trying to pray them away or ignoring them causes even more blindness to the truth. In this episode, I'm talking about how you can start learning to trust in God and grow your relationship with Him by posing three questions -1. How do we befriend the broken parts of us without allowing the broken parts to break us? How do we care for the pieces of our stories we aren’t ready to draw near to? Our pain wants someone or something to blame. If we keep our pain far enough away from us, then we don’t have to deal with it and we think it becomes someone else's problem. We can’t take responsibility for anyone else's actions or reactions. However, we can take responsibility for ours. When we continue to blame someone for something they did instead of forgiving them, we become physiologically dependent on the person we are blaming. In this episode, I talk through three steps we can take to stop blaming others that have hurt us and start taking responsibility for healing our souls with God's help. What is anger? What beliefs cause us to become angry? Are there different types of anger? I'll be exploring all those questions in this brief study on anger, as well as investigating the seven-stage cycle we tend to go through when anger becomes toxic. When left unchecked, a disagreement may become contempt for another person. Anger becomes dangerous when we give in to it because your relationship with God is tied to your relationship with people. If we allow anger to infect us our hearts like cancer, we are in danger of hell in the here and now. According to the Bible, God's will is revealed through various means, including His written word, the scriptures. But what does God’s will look like when it involves change in our life? In this episode, I walk through key aspects of God's will in the Bible, God’s will and how it can change your life, why change feels so hard, and how we can embrace God's will for life change. We talk about change often inside the Spiritual Growth Mentorship. We talk about the tension and how sometimes we want to give up fighting for change. I’m here to share that change is possible. God’s will isn’t out of reach. Change doesn’t come by trying. It comes by trusting. Change doesn’t come by walking after the flesh, but by the spirit. Change doesn’t come by willpower but by God’s power. We can know God’s will for our life when we know His word. We have the ability to renew our minds because of God’s power within us through Jesus. Faith over fear is what we choose, walk out, and become disciplined in. To live in faith over fear, we must know that experiencing safety with God is physical, spiritual, and emotional. The enemy of our hearts is fear because it reminds us of the absence of our safety and comfort. In this episode, I'm walking through some questions we can answer to determine how we arrived at this place of fear and how can we choose faith over fear. It’s our proximity to God that demands change. Safety is restored every time we are in His presence and He comes to our defense. Choosing faith over fear requires intimacy with God. In the presence of God, we are emotionally safe, physically safe, and spiritually safe. “I’m praying; I’m begging God. I want it to all go away.” Are you someone who feels like prayer isn't working? You are not alone in this wonder. When we call upon Jesus and He doesn’t show up when we want or how we would like, it makes us wonder and question. So what do we do when our prayer doesn’t take our pain away? We stand and we fight. In this episode, I'm chatting with you about the power of spiritual warfare through prayer. Prayer may not take our pain away or the feelings that come with it, but it will strengthen our weary souls. Prayer allows the Father to tend to our hearts versus allowing our pain to talk to us and convince us we don’t matter. Prayer will be what steadies you as turn your gaze from your pain to the Father. If it’s one thing I talk a lot about with the women in the Spiritual Growth Mentorship, it’s helping them walk through forgiving themselves for the mistakes they have made.We know God forgives us of our sins through Jesus, but we continue to carry the weight of the sin. We think we have to get ourselves right before we go to God. With this belief, we isolate ourselves. Making mistakes suck. It’s the last thing we want to do and it’s also something we can’t seem to let go of when we do. In this episode, I walk you through the process of forgiving yourself by accepting God's unconditional love, finding self-acceptance through God's forgiveness, and moving forward by forgiving yourself through God's compassion.Rooting for you,JessicaNext steps:Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/Have me as a coach in your corner: https://www.patreon.com/jessicahottleCheck out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shop Work with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/healEmail me at >> [email protected]

Hearing from God is discerning between the different voices we hear. Whether it’s through our feelings and what they communicate or what the enemy is trying to distract us from or with. Hearing from God requires us to think about what we are thinking, instead of allowing what comes to be have the ultimate say over our lives. I want you to know, above all, that you have the ability to discern, knowing hearing from God is possible and true. (In fact, I bet you are hearing from God more than you think.) Moving forward with God means we must allow Him to heal us from the pain of our past. Trusting God is more than a feeling; it’s a choice to have faith in what He says, even when your feelings or circumstances would have you believe something different. It’s not about convincing ourselves or others we have moved on. Healing is about honesty and humility. Honesty with where we are and humility in recognizing our need for the Lord. Trusting God is living a life of belief in and obedience to God even when it’s difficult. Are you holding on so tightly trying to make it all work out, but exhausted? Trusting in God's guidance can provide the strength and wisdom needed to move on from difficult situations in life. Sometimes the best thing for us to do is to let go. Letting go isn’t giving up. It’s giving it over to God so the yoke we now carry is His and not ours. Through prayer and faith, we can seek God's guidance and find the courage to move on from past hurts and mistakes. In this episode, I'm talking about how embracing God's guidance can help us navigate the uncertainties of life and find the path to healing and growth. You spent months with a person, building trust, only for the trust to be broken in what feels like an instant. Sometimes trust isn’t broken in an instant, though, but slowly over time. Sometimes their words are what we cling to the most, hoping for change. However, their actions are what often speak the truth. I know how hard it is to walk through broken trust and also the steps and time it takes to try and rebuild trust when your heart is hurting. In this episode, I'm talking about finding strength and guidance from God in learning how to rebuild trust, the role of forgiveness, and faith-based strategies for healing. There is something about the idea of control that leads us to feel safe. So, how do we let go and trust God will come through? Sometimes to let go and trust God feels unbearable because we think we are in charge. Anything outside of that brings uncomfortable feelings and doubts. Control is a false sense of security and safety. Our relationships, money, jobs, all of it, is something given to us by God to steward well. Nothing we have is truly ours. It’s His. So the question becomes do we trust God? Why or why not? Can we let go and trust God? In this episode, I explain what we can learn about trust from the parable of the sower found in Matthew 13, walk through why we struggle to trust God based on our view of Him, and share some scripture that will empower you to allow God to take control of our lives and hearts. Friend, I know what it’s like to feel like a burden to those around you, but you will never be a burden to God. You can not exhaust or empty His love for you. God isn't asking you to have it all together, to right your wrongs, or to try and do it all by yourself, He's inviting you to the table; He's welcoming the pain and the offense. In this episode, I explain what the Bible says about the spirit of offense and being offended, talk through six steps that can help you not take offense, and share how you can begin to break the bondage that offense has kept you in and embrace true forgiveness. There will be people who will never be able to see the pain they caused us, but nothing is hidden from God. Our pain can drop us to our knees, but it's our anchor and hope in Christ that allows us to stand again with forgiveness in our hearts. When we fix our gaze on Jesus, our pain can be met with gentleness and the tenderness it deserves. In this episode, I walk you through what forgiveness is, what scripture has to say about forgiveness, and why forgiveness is so important to God. If you're struggling to find hope in the midst of hurt, you need to hear this conversation with author and speaker, Toni Collier. I invited Toni on to talk about this topic because she is also the founder of an international women’s ministry called Broken Crayons Still Color, which helps women process through brokenness and get to hope. In this episode, Toni explains how embracing the complex middle of life prepares us to hold both hurt and hope simultaneously, as well as the importance of not grieving alone. She also speaks about how recognizing that redemption was more important than resentment allowed her to find the healing through the Lord that she was desparately seeking. Remember to be kind to yourself as you process through your pain. You are only human, it's okay to pause and come back - just keep showing up.Be sure to follow Toni on her website, Instagram and/or Facebook! Emotional healing isn’t about fixing you. You are not a project to be fixed but a person to be loved. It’s not through your effort and all that you can do to heal your soul. It’s welcoming the presence of God into your pain. In this episode, I'm talking about what it means to emotionally heal, looking at scripture to see what God says about emotional healing, and giving three ways you can begin to emotionally heal. You don’t have to continue to live in pain and believe you are alone, abandoned, or rejected. Jesus has something better for you. When our goal is to read the Bible daily and to get in the habit of consistently reading, it’s important we address how habits are formed. Reading the Bible daily is not something we check off of our to-do list. Our human effort alone does not change or transform us. It’s the Holy Spirit who delivers and transforms us, which is why reading the Bible daily is important. God provides the revelation of Himself to those who follow Him. In this episode, I talk about how habits are formed, discuss different learning styles, and give you 3 ways to get into the daily habit of reading your Bible. We all have moments when we're confronted with something that causes us to clench our fists and tighten our jaws. In those moments, it’s not that we need to tell ourselves to not be angry. It’s in those moments that we get to redirect our anger to God. Not to ourselves, not to the person who wrongfully accused us or hurt us, but to the One who knows the anger we carry. In this episode, I talk through three different ways scripture instructs us to process anger with God. Don’t allow the sun to go down on your anger. Be proactive in redirecting your anger so your anger doesn’t redirect you. Our quiet time with God will not always produce a feeling, but we can guarantee that we are becoming transformed. In this episode, I want to share with you 3 prayers for anxiety: Befriending Your Body Speaking Life in the Wildnerness Healing Your Heart Our prayer life is more than perfect Bible words. It’s communion and communication with God. It’s a relationship. We don’t have to approach our time with God with a systematic equation, hoping He hears our prayers for anxiety. We can be confident, knowing, He hears and answers our prayers. I don't know what you have been through, but I can say, without a doubt, healing is found through Jesus. Your prayer for anxiety doesn’t go unheard. Remember, your healing journey from anxiety isn’t about praying away your emotions. Your body is communicating specific needs and it’s okay to check in with them. Dealing with our emotions biblically is not about bypassing what someone is going through, but rather helping them take the truth and apply it to their certain situation. I think, as believers, we are known for spiritually bypassing people in the name of Jesus and calling it holy. In layman’s terms, spiritual bypassing is using our faith to disregard our real human experiences. Dealing with emotions biblically allows the truth to be the foundation and healing while leading them in love to reality. In this episode, I’m taking a look at what the Bible says about our emotions and feelings and walking through 5 ways to manage your emotions. Through our identity in Christ, we have the strength and power to process our emotions, put them into obedience to Christ, and deal with emotions biblically. We all have moments in our lives where trust between relationships breaks. The question always comes up, “If people continue to hurt me, how can I trust that God isn’t hurting me too?” In our minds, we know the word says God cares and He won’t leave us, but it becomes hard to receive in our hearts when it seems as though relationships become like revolving doors, people regularly coming and going. Feeling spiritually safe is knowing we are saved through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. God is not man. Therefore, He will not act as man does. We can trust Him.In this episode, I walk through what makes a person feel safe, how to feel safe emotionally and spiritually, and five questions to consider to feel safe.Rooting for you,JessicaConnect with me -> www.jessicahottle.comFree Stuff:Join my Facebook Community to learn how to heal emotionally and hear from God >> https://www.facebook.com/groups/2090810004481127/Are you ready to live by faith and not by how you feel? How do we know if we are hearing God’s voice, the enemy, or our feelings? Hearing God’s voice requires us to think about what we are thinking instead of allowing what comes to be to have an ultimate say over our lives. When we bring God’s Word into our current thoughts, our thoughts are confronted with two opposing viewpoints. Since Jesus is the embodiment of truth, anything that goes against His Word is a lie. When we realize that Jesus invites us to see His perspective and not ours, then healing comes through His kindness and compassion, extending toward our pain and experiences. Holding both our feelings and God’s truth is where we begin to bridge the gap from feeling to healing. Recognizing these patterns allow us to begin to hear God’s voice more clearly. To lean on God is to be interdependent with Him. It’s knowing that we cannot depend on ourselves alone and that we are also a part of bringing heaven to earth, co-laboring with Christ. However, we struggle to lean on God because our beliefs about God have hindered us from trusting God. Not to mention, God isn’t someone who is right in front of us. How can someone care who isn’t physically here? In this episode, I'm sharing 3 Bible life lessons from Psalms that help us lean on God. Learning to lean on Him is a process. Trusting God takes being intentional about pursuing His heart and love for us. The depth we know God is the depth we will be able to trust God. Overcoming anxiety isn’t about pushing away your feelings, ignoring them, or treating what you are going through like nothing. Overcoming anxiety starts with knowing who God is to you and what you believe He believes about you. We can spend years building trust and growing deeper into our relationships only for a moment to occur that can begin to slowly destroy the time invested. Have you ever said to yourself, “Why can’t I stop eating when stressed?”Learning how to stop stress eating isn’t about getting food under control; it's about understanding that food cannot solve emotional hunger. Being able to stop stress eating God’s way is not about applying scripture to cover up a wound, but rather allowing God to heal the wound. Healing happens when our hearts become aligned with His word and we begin to live from our relationship with Him.In this episode, I explain what stress eating is and why we struggle to stop it. I also offer three practical tips that will help you stop stress eating and lose weight God's way. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, so don't be discouraged. Anxiety has increased so much recently that it's rare to find someone who says they're not managing at least a mild level of anxiousness. If you're a Christian, that anxiety may be compounded by the guilt you feel for your inability to "cast all your cares on Him." In this episode, I'm talking with author, podcast host, and certified NeuroCoach Alicia Michelle about what is happening in our bodies when we experience anxiety, how we can dig out the root of it, and the gift we have to use our God-given power to renew our thoughts. We can bury the pain of our past, but it doesn’t mean it’s dead. Trusting God with our future means it’s equally important for us to allow Him to heal us from the pain of our past as well. In this episode, I'm talking through three ways we can know our past needs healing, taking a look at what scripture says about how we can heal from old wounds, and sharing why trusting God is essential for our restoration. Scripture talks about three kinds of strongholds. Unfortunately at some point, we all experience heartbreak, whether it be from the loss of a relationship, a friend, or a dream. With that loss comes complex emotions and if we're not intentional, we can get stuck in our pain. In this episode, I'm chatting with Kandace Bateast about what it looks like practically to process through and heal from heartbreak in a healthy way. Kandace is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, author, and host of the Goodbye Heartbreak, Hello Purpose podcast. Although seasons of heartbreak may be long, we don't have to stay there. Have you ever said, “I’m depressed about my weight, but can't stop eating?” Emotionally eating is not bad in itself. However, when we are using it as a way of coping, we need to address the underlying issues. We cannot solve emotional hunger with food. Knowing about the mind-body connection helps us understand specific emotions we have towards food and why we find ourselves emotionally eating. In this episode, I talk through some reasons you might be overeating and share 8 simple ways you can begin to heal from overeating. I also encourage you with 3 Biblical truths to feel comfortable in your body because being comfortable in your body starts with the foundation of being kind to the body the Lord has blessed you with and learning to properly steward it well. In our search for understanding and reason for what’s happening around us and in us, we can begin to wonder how we can continue trusting God in challenging times because nothing seems to make sense. In this episode, I share three reasons why trusting God in difficult times is our foundation for wisdom and healing moving forward - He’s the God who sees, our hearts are not hidden from God, and there’s nothing that can’t be redeemed or restored by God. Trusting God in difficult times isn’t about trusting what we know, it’s about trusting what we know about God. We can continue to turn our gaze to the One who sees, hears, and knows regardless of who else knows. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. Does the thought of setting boundaries make you uncomfortable because you associate it with cutting people out of your life? Sometimes that is necessary, but healthy emotional boundaries lovingly offer choice to others rather than attempting to control them. When we want to create community and deepen relationships, we must communicate with others about our levels of safety and what protects both people involved from getting hurt any further. And when we refer to the Bible, we can see that boundaries also have to do with self-control. In this episode, I talk about why it's hard to set emotional boundaries, what scripture has to say about boundaries, and what it means to walk in forgiveness. What does it mean to forgive yourself? Scripture teaches us that we are forgiven and receive forgiveness for our sins through Jesus, therefore forgiving yourself starts with recognizing what He has done for you. We aren’t striving to be set free, we are renewing our minds to stay free. In this episode, I talk about the two types of forgiveness found in the Bible - the forgiveness of our sins and the forgiveness of others. If our goal is sanctification and becoming more like Christ, how can we extend compassion towards others, but not ourselves? Forgiving yourself is healing with the Lord and changing the way you view forgiveness. It’s our brokenness that blinds our eyes from the truth and keeps us focused on our pain. We can’t see clearly because our pain changes our perspective, and our perspective directs our path. Over time, ignoring our emotions, feelings, and pain only obscures our vision and ability to see clearly. Trying to pray them away or ignoring them causes even more blindness to the truth. In this episode, I'm talking about how you can start learning to trust in God and grow your relationship with Him by posing three questions - 1. What’s causing you to go under and punching holes in your identity? 2. What storms have changed your view of God? 3. Do you know the God who calms the sea? Do you know God’s true character and nature? Fear does not always mean the absence of faith. Fear can sometimes mean the absence of safety. Faith over fear is what we choose, walk out, and become disciplined in. To live in faith over fear, we must also know that experiencing safety with God is physical, spiritual, and emotional. In this episode, I'm talking about how fear came to be, the foundation of fear, and what we can to do restore safety with God so we can begin living in faith over fear.
