For the first time since the 2020 bubble, the Philadelphia Flyers are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and will play in front of real crowds home and away post-game 82 for the first time since 2018. How did the Philadelphia Flyers get here after finishing 4th worst in hockey a year ago, losing all but 3 of 15 heading into the Olympic break, and the season-long drama between head coach Rick Tocchet and sophomore winger Matvei Michkov? Charlie & Bill look back on the regular season and discuss how it was Tocchet and Michkov together who led this team out of their January slump and into the postseason. Plus, a look at Porter Martone, Dan Vladar, and revisiting our preseason predictions. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What a night for Flyers youngsters! With most of the team’s veterans resting for the season finale vs Canadiens in preparation of their Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was the U24 crew that showed up big. Matvei Michkov scored his 20th goal of the season and led the way with 3 points, while Porter Martone added 1G, 1A, Oliver Bonk recorded his first goal and first assist in his NHL debut, and the oldest Flyer to record a point was Hunter McDonald, also making his NHL debut. Charlie, Kelly & Bill break down the regular season closing win, and discuss how the FUTURE IS NOW for Philadelphia’s hockey team. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras tied it in the second, and that score held for about 35 minutes, and we got our third shootout against the Canes this year (all 4 meetings went to OT). Zegras was stoned for his third time in three attempts, and second straight in the shootout vs. Bussi, as were Michkov (who also failed on an OT breakaway) and Konecny, but it was Tyson Foerster in round 4 who finally beat Bussi while Vladar made all 4 saves to SEND THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS TO THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2020! The Philadelphia Flyers just have to take care of their own business and they’ll be in the 2025-26 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They did exactly that on Saturday night, blowing out the Jets in Winnipeg to maintain their lead in the Metro division race. Travis Konecny and Porter Martone got the party started, while Matvei Michkov and Sean Couturier backed up their example, pushing the Orange & Black’s playoff chances to well within reach in the final two games of the regular season. Charlie & Bill break down the Flyers win, discussing Dan Vladar, as well as the contributions from both long-tenured vets and youngsters alike. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers continue adding to the center depth, having signed 2024 2nd round pick Jack Berglund to an entry-level contract on Thursday, one day before turning 20 years old, that starts in 2026-27. The 6-4 Swede captained his World Junior Championship team to a gold medal at this year’s tournament, and now looks to make an impact with the Flyers’ organization after playing in the SHL. Could Berglund challenge for an NHL roster spot in the fall? Charlie and Bill discuss both Berglund, and who could be joining him in the competition at next year’s camps. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers just could not overcome a special teams deficit on Thursday night in Detroit, giving up three power play goals as well as a short-handed goal in their loss to a desperate Red Wings squad. Porter Martone showed up, scoring and picking up a primary assist in front of his Michigan State teammates in the crowd, but there weren’t many other bright spots for Philly, outside of the Buffalo Sabres beating the Columbus Blue Jackets in regulation to ensure the Orange & Black hold their playoff spot for another day. Charlie & Bill discuss the playoff implications of this loss, as well as Dan Vladar getting pulled for Sam Ersson, Travis Konecny’s disappearing act, and much more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
With four games left the Philadelphia Flyers hold a one point lead in the Metropolitan Division playoff race, and are so close to ending a five season Stanley Cup Playoff drought, tied for the franchise record. There have been standout performances by Trevor Zegras, Dan Vladar, Owen Tippett and many others to bring the Orange & Black this close to the postseason, but overseeing it all has been Rick Tocchet. How much credit does the head coach deserve for turning around a team that finished 4th worst in the NHL a season ago? Bill & Charlie discuss Tocchet’s impact, as well as the integration of rookies Alex Bump, Porter Martone and Denver Barkey into the lineup. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers needed a win to create some breathing room in the Metropolitan Division standings, and they got exactly that, thanks to big games from Trevor Zegras, Tyson Foerster and Matvei Michkov. Bill, Kelly and Charlie break down the win, discussing Zegras at center, Foerster’s return, Vladar’s night, the Stanley Cup Playoff race, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Charlie O'Connor joins from Flyers practice, as "nasty" Porter Martone is making a serious impact as he pushes the Philadelphia Flyers toward a playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference, and the Flyers look to make a a run for the 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Meanwhile, Tyson Foerster finally speaks to the media for the first time since returning from injury—sharing insights on his recovery, mindset, and what he brings back to the lineup. Hear from Rick Tocchet and Foerster on this red hot Flyers' team, as well as an update on Rasmus Ristolainen's absence from practice. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers are currently in a playoff spot! Occupying the third seed in the Metropolitan Division with five games to go, the Orange & Black “control their destiny” with a one-point lead and a game in-hand on the New York Islanders thanks to clutch performances from an infusion of young talent, headlined by Porter Martone. Bill & Charlie take a look at how the Flyers have fought back into the postseason mix after their disastrous January, and the efforts of young players, as well as key vets like Sean Couturier and Christian Dvorak contributing to this comeback. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers needed just one point to lay claim to the third seed in the Metropolitan Division, and they got that, taking a 1-1 tie into overtime. And then, the much-maligned referees called back-to-back OT penalties to set the Flyers up with a 5v3, allowing Porter Martone to score his first goal and win it! Bill, Steve and Charlie break down the win, discussing Martone’s heroics, Dan Vladar’s day, and much more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
With new additions like Porter Martone, Denver Barkey, and Alex Bump for the Philadelphia Flyers, GM Danny Briere suddenly has his hands full with young, promising talent to pair with Russian phenom Matvei Michkov – who added a goal and 2 assists to his impressive resume against Ilya Sorokin and the New York Islanders. As these prospects have played in meaningful, playoff-type, championship-level games in their development, Michkov really hasn't due to Russia's KHL rules, thus questioning how much impact and experience Matvei Michkov has in these types of high-pressure situations and preparing for the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bill and Charlie of the PHLY Flyers Podcast discuss the Mad Russian's impact for a young Flyers team, and how this important stretch of this season will not only mean a lot for the team, but for Michkov's offseason as the Flyers fight in the Eastern Conference and Metropolitan Division. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers needed to beat the Islanders in regulation to keep their hopes of Stanley Cup Playoff action alive. Owen Tippett, Alex Bump and Matvei Michkov stepped up to provide big offensive efforts in front of a stellar Dan Vladar performance in net. Charlie & Bill break down the big win, discussing Michkov, Tippett, Sean Couturier, Travis Sanheim and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers certainly looked like the better team on Thursday night, outshooting Detroit 34-19, and the two most recent additions to the lineup, returning Tyson Foerster and home debuting Porter Martone, certainly did their part, but John Gibson and Patrick Kane teamed up to break the hearts of the Philly faithful. Bill, Charlie & Steve break down the devastating loss, discussing the officiating, the Stanley Cup Playoff race and the disappointing performances of veterans Owen Tippett and Travis Sanheim. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a great opportunity to move up in the Stanley Cup Playoff race, with the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings each losing in regulation tonight. Porter Martone played his first NHL game, and looked stronger as the game went on, but it was not enough to power Philly over the Caps. Bill, Petey & Charlie break down the loss, discussing a bad night for Dan Vladar, sloppy penalties by Trevor Zegras & Travis Konecny, and the team’s inability to win four straight games. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
What a weekend for the Philadelphia Flyers! Their dominant win over the lowly Blackhawks was an appetizer for a regulation win over wild card rival Detroit and an OT thriller against the Dallas sandwiching the signing of top prospect Porter Martone, and all feels right on Broad St. as Philly is within two points of a playoff spot. Charlie & Bill now look ahead to Martone’s addition to the lineup, what it will take over the final 9 games to end the five year postseason drought, the resurgences of Sam Ersson & Matvei Michkov, AND MORE! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers went toe-to-toe with the 2nd best team in the NHL on Sunday night, and outplayed the talent-laden Dallas Stars for much of the game, holding them to 18 shots against Sam Ersson in a big 2-1 OT win that draws Philly within two points of a playoff spot. Charlie, Bill & Steve break down the monumental victory, discussing Sam Ersson’s game-saving stop late in the 3rd, Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras stepping up, and where the Orange & Black sit in the race to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
After Michigan State was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, it was a matter of time before freshman Porter Martone signed with the Philadelphia Flyers, setting up the 2025 sixth overall pick’s NHL debut. Now, Martone has inked his entry-level contract and will soon join his new teammates in Orange & Black. Charlie & Bill of the PHLY Flyers Podcast discuss Martone joining the team mid-playoff race, and what effect he could have on Rick Tocchet’s lineup. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers opened up a 3-0 lead in a must-win situation in Detroit against another team gunning to end a playoff drought, the Red Wings, who are also fighting to stay alive in the Eastern Conference wild card race. Owen Tippett scored goals in the first and second, while Dan Vladar was clutch with big saves throughout the game to earn the win. Charlie & Bill break down the win, Owen Tippett’s huge night, and the possibility of Porter Martone joining the team now that Michigan State has been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers wasted little time erasing the bad taste from Tuesday’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, going up 1-0 on an Alex Bump goal before 50 seconds were played, and taking a 2-0 lead via Sean Couturier in just over 2:30 of game time. Philly cruised to a victory over the lowly Blackhawks, and if for only one night against a bad team, put on a show for the Douth Philly crowd, providing a great encore to the Phillies Opening Day win. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, discussing the big night for Bump, Denver Barkey, Owen Tippett, Sam Ersson and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Charlie O'Connor was in Voorhees as the Flyers returned to practice after their disappointing 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on home ice amid the Eastern Conference playoff race in the NHL. Rick Tocchet revealed today that Nikita Grebenkin is dealing with an upper-body injury and getting tests done to determine the severity – meaning he's doubtful vs the Chicago Blackhawks. Meanwhile, Emil Andrae is expected to return to the lineup—can his presence give the team a much-needed boost? With the playoff race tightening, the Flyers’ chances are looking increasingly slim. Charlie breaks down the latest roster updates, injury concerns, and what needs to happen (if anything) for a late push. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers have not been mathematically eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but their chances have slimmed even further after a regulation loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Charlie & Bill discuss the disappointing performances by Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett and Philly’s top scorers last night, as well as the struggles Rick Tocchet’s club has had against Metropolitan division and Eastern Conference playoff teams. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers had an opportunity to put a dent in the Eastern Conference playoff race, facing off at home against the Metropolitan division’s 3-seed, the Columbus Blue Jackets. After Sean Couturier opened the scoring late in the first period, however, the Orange & Black put up little in terms of high-end scoring chances, and failed to convert on the ones created by Owen Tippett, Noah Cates and Matvei Michkov. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, and the disappointment of Rick Tocchet’s squad coming up small in South Philly after sweeping the West Coast road trip. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Flyers Podcast reports from Voorhees, NJ as the Philadelphia Flyers swept their West Coast trip with victories against Cutter Gauthier and the Ducks, Artemi Panarin's LA Kings, and Macklin Celebrini's San Jose Sharks to suddenly find themselves back in the Eastern Conference Playoff race. Hear from Owen Tippett and Rick Tocchet on the Flyers' winning streak, injury updates on Sean Couturier, Denver Barkey, and Luke Glendening, playoff odds, and more. An exhausted Philadelphia Flyers squad, playing once again with 11 forwards and 7 defensemen due to the absences of Denver Barkey, Sean Couturier and Luke Glendening, fought hard with Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks on Saturday evening, putting in a gutsy effort to sweep their California road trip. Bill & Michael break down the win, the Flyers’ seventh straight on the road, discussing Owen Tippett’s scoring run, the power play finally converting, and Matvei Michkov reaching 100 points for his career. Broad Street Hockey's Maddie Campbell breaks down David Jiricek’s recent performances with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms & his future in Philadelphia – as well as prospect insights on Oliver Bonk, Hunter McDonald, and other rising names you need to know. The Philadelphia Flyers have played 68 games this season. Thursday’s contest with the LA Kings is the 25th that has required overtime. That’s 37% of the schedule. Ridiculous. It took over 65 minutes, but goals by Zegras and Michkov in the shootout delivered Philly its 6th straight road victory for the first time in 8 years. Charlie & Bill break down the win, and the absurdity of Flyers Hockey. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers gave up their 2-1 lead in the final two minutes of regulation, but a 2-on-1 that appeared to be fumbled between Noah Cates and Matvei Michkov gave the Orange & Black the win in 3v3. Charlie & Bill break down the wacky win, including the OT offside review, Dan Vladar setting a new season-high for saves in a game, Owen Tippett’s night and much more! Should the Philadelphia Flyers consider trading top prospect Jett Luchanko? In this video, Bill and Charlie of PHLY Flyers Podcast break down why NHL insider Craig Button believes GM Danny Briere might explore moving the young talent—and what it could mean for the future of the Flyers. Bill and Charlie dive into Luchanko’s potential, the Flyers’ current rebuild strategy, and whether trading a promising prospect is the right move to accelerate success. Is this a smart long-term decision or a risky gamble? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On January 6th, the Anaheim Ducks came into Philly with the mindset of taking liberties and “avenging” the way they were pushed around in Cutter Gauthier’s first trip to Philadelphia the year prior. Bobby Brink got chicken-winged early, leading to a rare Noah Cates fight. Jamie Drysdale got blind-sided by Ross Johnston. Jacob Trouba delivered a flying elbow to Denver Barkey. Radko Gudas (currently suspended for kneeing Auston Matthews) and Garnet Hathaway dropped the gloves. With the Ducks now leading the pathetic Pacific Division, it’s now up to the Flyers to test just how “tough” the team that stole the color orange from them really is. Charlie & Bill discuss the potential for fireworks on Wednesday night, as well as Keith Jones’ assessment of the rebuild, his first year head coach and more on a recent appearance on the 97.5 Morning Show. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Over the summer, Flyers GM Danny Briere made several additions to the team, including Trevor Zegras, Dan Vladar, Christian Dvorak and head coach Rick Tocchet. On Monday’s episode, Charlie & Bill examine the impact of Vladar’s goaltending on this season, as well as Tocchet’s impact on the team’s overall offense, and whether personnel improvements can fix what’s wrong with a team that struggles to score 3 goals per game. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
For the 23rd time in 2025-26, the Philadelphia Flyers went to overtime! After a mostly uneventful 3v3 (until the final 30 seconds) we got to see yet another shootout! Alex Bump scored his second career goal in the 1st period to tie the game after Kirill Marchenko scored early, and that was the last of the game’s scoring until Kirill Marchenko ended the shootout. Bill, Petey and Charlie react to the loss, and the lack of urgency in a must-win game. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers are in the middle of a full rebuild, and General Manager Danny Briere is taking a patient approach to building the team the right way. Instead of rushing the process, the Flyers are focusing on developing young talent, collecting draft picks, and building a core that can compete for years to come. In this video, we break down the Flyers rebuild and why patience could be the key to long-term success. From Matvei Michkov’s superstar potential to the development of top prospects like Porter Martone and the growing young core in Philadelphia, the future of the Flyers might be brighter than fans think. We’ll also look at Danny Briere’s strategy, how the Flyers are rebuilding through the NHL Draft, and why waiting for prospects to develop could eventually turn Philadelphia back into a contender. The Flyers were in one of their toughest spots of the season on Thursday night, playing in the backend of a back-to-back after traveling from Philadelphia to Minnesota to faceoff with one of the NHL’s top teams in the Wild. Philly scored the first goal for only the 21st time this season, and despite falling behind 2-1, Owen Tippett knotted it up with a short-handed slapper, forcing overtime, making it 22 OT games this season for the Orange & Black. Then, after Michkov and Zegras came up empty in the shootout, Travis Konecny scored the skills competition’s lone goal for the win. Charlie & Bill break down the victory and what this means for the Flyers’ playoff hopes. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers have won 5 of 7 and kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. Trevor Zegras, Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett and Jamie Drysdale all scored, while Sam Ersson was strong again to propel the Orange & Black to victory. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, and discuss what could have been if not for the dreadful run leading into the Olympic break. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers have 19 games remaining in the 2025-26 regular season, and with a sub-5% chance of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it’s probably time to give up on that dream after getting blown out by the last place New York Rangers last night. So, with a focus on these final 19 games, Charlie & Bill are looking at Dan Vladar and Sam Ersson’s workloads, as well as expectations for Matvei Michkov, Trevor Zegras’s performance playing center, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Dan Vladar has been the Philadelphia Flyers’ MVP through 62 games, but in game #63, Vladar was off and, with his team not exactly buzzing in front of him, the Orange & Black were blown out by the Eastern Conference’s worst team. Matvei Michkov made it 3-1 on the power play early in the second period, but that was basically Philly’s only highlight, as the Stanley Cup Playoffs become even less likely following an embarrassing loss to a team that has given up and declared a rebuild. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, including Rick Tocchet seemingly hanging Vladar out to dry, Alex Bump’s first home game, and much more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Alex Bump’s long-awaited NHL debut has finally happened and it’s a night he’ll never forget, scoring his first career goal in the second period against the Philadelphia Flyers’ biggest rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins. This game was high-scoring but also somehow low-event, with neither team registering double-digit shots on goal in any period, but still we got highlights from Denver Barkey scoring off a feed from Matvei Michkov, and Owen Tippett notching his fourth straight 20-goal season, scoring on a nice pass from Trevor Zegras. Charlie & Bill break down the shootout win, highlighted by Trevor Zegras’ shootout heroics, Dan Vladar stepping up in the final 35 minutes, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Why didn’t Rasmus Ristolainen get traded at the NHL Trade Deadline? Charlie O'Connor reports live from the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees to report on Danny Briere's press conference after the Orange and Black kept defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen after the NHL Trade Deadline passed despite intense trade speculation. As the NHL Trade Deadline approached, many fans and analysts expected Ristolainen to be moved for future assets. However, Brière’s comments shed light on why the Flyers held onto the big right-shot defenseman and what it means for the team’s plans moving forward. Briere also speaks on other moves the Flyers made, including Bobby Brink for David Jiricek, Deslauries to the Carolina Hurricanes, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers have already made a couple of trades, one sending Bobby Brink to his hometown Minnesota Wild in exchange for 2022 sixth overall pick, defenseman David Jiricek. Danny Briere also made an AHL move, exchanging Massimo Rizzo and Alexis Gendron for Boston’s Brett Harrison and Jackson Edward. Now, all attention shifts to if Briere can get his asking price for Rasmus Ristolainen, and if marginal pieces like Nic Deslauriers and/or Carl Grundstrom can fetch any sort of return. Charlie, Bill & Steve react live to the NHL Trade Deadline breaking down all the moves the Flyers make… or don’t! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On the eve of the NHL Trade Deadline, with a chance to earn their first 4-game winning streak in two years, the Philadelphia Flyers turned in one of their least inspiring performances of the season, losing without much push back to the Utah Mammoth on Thursday night. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, and the complete lack of offense Rick Tocchet’s squad was able to muster, while also focusing on tomorrow’s deadline, possible Rasmus Ristolainen trades, and more. We got a good ol’ fashioned goalie duel in South Philly on Saturday afternoon between the Philadelphia Flyers’ Dan Vladar and Boston Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman, with the first (official) goal of the game being scored 43:40 into regulation, with Travis Konecny breaking the scoreless tie early in the third. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, including Vladar standing on his head, Jamie Drysdale’s emerging offense and Sean Couturier breaking his 31-game goal drought. Through all the controversy and consternation we’ve seen through the first two-thirds of Rick Tocchet’s first season, there’s really only one thing that matters: can Tocchet coach this team to long-term success? Looking at his coaching history, as well as the rankings of recent Stanley Cup champs and the top-scoring teams this year, Bill breaks down the biggest issue with Philadelphia’s head coach- he has had almost no success in coaching a team to score as much as championship-level teams score. And that’s a legitimate problem. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
What a game! After a terrible first period, and an ugly opening goal given up by Sam Ersson, Matvei Michkov got the Flyers offense started with a power play goal in the 2nd and ended the game in overtime, coming out of the box and beating Igor Shesterkin for the winner. Bill & Petey break down the win, and discuss what this big game for the 21-year-old Russian sophomore could mean for the final 24 games of the season. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers have lost yet another game to an Eastern Conference opponent, falling to the Washington Capitals in the first action coming out of the Olympic break, despite a solid performance from goaltender Dan Vladar. Noah Cates scored to end an 18-game goal drought, tallying his first goal of 2026, but it wasn’t enough offense to keep up with the still-battling Washington Capitals. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, and discuss what more performances like this could mean for Danny Briere, Rasmus Ristolainen and others at next Friday’s Trade Deadline. With the 2026 Olympics in the books, and a pair of Philadelphia Flyers bringing home medals (silver for Travis Sanheim, bronze for Rasmus Ristolainen), Charlie & Bill discuss who could be the next members of the Flyers to play in the 2030 (or 2034) Olympics. Could Trevor Zegras crack the gold medal-winning US lineup? Will Russia be back on the international stage in four years, and could Matvei Michkov have a spot on such a team? Plus, we’re taking a look at the most recent NHL Trade Deadline rumors with Risto via Daily Faceoff as well as looking at Philly’s top 2 center prospects, Jett Luchanko and Jack Nesbitt, following Charlie’s 2-part interview with AGM Brent Flahr (https://allphly.com/philadelphia-flyers-prospects-flahr-luchanko-bonk/). Matvei Michkov’s rookie season was electric, at least the first third and final third of it. Facing big expectations coming off the best first pro season for a Philadelphia Flyer since Simon Gagne, Michkov hasn’t delivered a sequel as good as the first, let alone better. Bill & Charlie take a whole day to break down what they’ve seen from Michkov and what they expect from the final 26 games and his overall ceiling heading into next season. Plus, a check-in from Steve “Petey” Peters, former NHL video coach who recently broke down Michkov’s struggles on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SgSLZwsM2U Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Today we’re taking a look at some scenarios for how the final 26 games of the Philadelphia Flyers’ season could go. First, we take a look at the standings, to figure out what sort of pace Philly will need to play to get back into the mix. Then we’re going to talk about whether Sean Couturier can end his 29-game scoring drought, and what happens if he doesn’t, as well as Sam Ersson, and if a strong end to this season could keep him in Orange & Black another season. Plus, is there anything Rick Tocchet can do to make you think he’s actually improved the team? What if the power play is good down the stretch? And do we want Porter Martone to go all the way to the Frozen Four, even if it means he’ll only play a game or two in the NHL? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We’re got a show jumping all over the place today. We’re talking Rasmus Ristolainen and the how the Olympics could be improving his trade value, which has not been high going back to last spring. The Philadelphia Flyers have too many wingers, and more are coming. In the top-9 there are six possible spots on the wing for Matvei Michkov, Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster, Bobby Brink, Denver Barkey, Porter Martone, and Alex Bump. And what if Trevor Zegras is just better suited to play left wing? What if Danny Briere acquires another center who isn’t necessarily a first or second liner, and Noah Cates gets bumped to the flank? Not to mention all the prospect wingers taken in the top-half of the draft over the last few years. The Flyers are strong and overly deep at one position, and it’s the wing. Today, Charlie & Bill look at the Flyers glut of wingers, and talk about scenarios in which the group could be thinned out. Plus, more Olympic talk with both Canada (sans Travis Sanheim) & the US in action today. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Who are some dark-horse candidates rumored for the Flyers as the NHL trade deadline approaches? Bill Matz and Charlie O’Connor of the PHLY Flyers Podcast break down potential targets for the Flyers, including Emil Andrae, Nick Seeler, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On today’s show we’re going to take a quick look at the beginning of the Men’s Olympic Ice Hockey Tournament before turning our attentions to Danny Briere, and the contracts he has handed out in his tenure as Philadelphia Flyers’ GM. How is the Travis Konecny extension working out? Does it look like Owen Tippett’s 8-year deal will age well? And what do his early-tenure contracts for Nick Seeler and Garnet Hathaway tell us about his priorities? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The conversation from yesterday’s show (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB5HseADK9A&list=PL41s9y86dRgy9jEKycBC8mtG0YXbto_KF) continues, with Charlie & Bill breaking down young Philadelphia Flyers’ seasons. Today they’ll tackle Emil Andrae, Tyson Foerster, Trevor Zegras and more in the discussion. Is Bobby Brink the odd man out with the emergence of Denver Barkey? What could a Zegras contract extension look like? Do the guys have any concerns about Foerster’s long-term health following this current injury, incurred while shooting the puck back on December 1st? Flyers chatter has been consumed by Matvei Michkov talk over the past few weeks. But the team has plenty of other young players under 25 years old on the NHL roster. We’re dropping the puck on the NHL’s Olympic break with a jam-packed show of odds and ends from the Philadelphia Flyers’ first 56 games. With more than 2/3 of the season behind them the Flyers chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020 are slimming, thanks in large part to their 2-8 record in 3-on-3 overtime games. But while their special teams rankings don’t look great, there may be reason for hope! And what’s up with Noah Cates? Where did his scoring go? Charlie & Bill discuss all this and more on a Friday edition of PHLY FLYERS! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In the final game before a 19-day Olympic break, the Philadelphia Flyers needed almost 50 minutes to get double-digit shots against Ottawa Senators netminder James Reimer, who wasn’t in the NHL a month ago. Dan Vladar did everything he could, but through 50 minutes Sean Couturier was the only Flyer with more than one shot on goal. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, and discuss if this game could have been any worse. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers, who’ve won three games in 2026 and only one at home, badly needed a strong performance against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in the penultimate game before the Olympic break. Philly got off to a strong enough start, taking a 2-0 lead before surrendering a short-handed goal in the second and an early game-tying goal in the third. But it was Jamie Drysdale and the Flyers power play that won the game, along with Dan Vladar’s excellent third period, to give the Flyers their first victory against an Eastern Conference opponent since December 16th. Bill, Charlie & Kelly break down the game, as well as Danny Briere’s comments about Rick Tocchet and Matvei Michkov. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Despite coming out flat and falling behind 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the game, the Flyers turned it on in the final 40 minutes to earn a point against the Los Angeles Kings thanks to goals by Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras. Unfortunately, a TK breakaway shot off the post gave OT possession back to LA, which they eventually turned into the game-winning goal. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down yet another loss, discussing the Michkov - Zegras - Brink line, Konecny finding his scoring touch again, Dan Vladar, and more! It's everyone's favorite topics: Sean Couturier's captaincy and trades! Nikita Grebenkin scored with 55 seconds left in the second period to break a streak of over 162 minutes of game time in which no other member of the Philadelphia Flyers potted a goal other than Travis Konecny. The newly-formed Grebenkin - Dvorak - Konecny line played well, and nobody else did in Thursday’s loss to the Bruins, Philly’s tenth loss in 12 games. Bill & Steve break down the Flyers’ failures, including the mess that was Trevor Zegras centering Matvei Michkov and Bobby Brink, the disappointing effort from Sam Ersson, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
For the first 41 games of the Flyers season, Trevor Zegras was on a point-per-game pace. However, since his 2-goal game versus the Ducks, Zegras only has 5 points. What's going on with the Orange and Black's star, and the Flyers' offense as a whole? Charlie and Bill break it down. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers started slow, unable to register a shot against Elvis Merzlikins for the first 8:30 of the game, but Travis Konecny’s scored three times and Dan Vladar made some huge saves in his return to drag Philly to a 3-3 tie late in the 3rd. Unfortunately they have the lead back to CBJ in regulation, and gave up an empty-netter to lose 5-3. Charlie & Bill break down the disappointing loss, talking TK, Vladar, Rasmus Ristolainen leaving the bench after two shifts, leadership, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Charlie O'Connor was on the scene in Voorhees, NJ today, as some notable lineup changes were seen on the ice. The Flyers have an upcoming back-to-back, first with the red-hot Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday and the Boston Bruins on Thursday – both games with Eastern Conference and Metropolitan standing implications. Dan Vladar could start for Philly versus Columbus on Wednesday and Emil Andrae is likely to be a healthy scratch as well. Coming off a successful road trip and the biggest win of the season in Colorado, the Philadelphia Flyers came out flat against the New York Islanders, losing with an uninspiring effort against a direct playoff competitor. Ilya Sorokin recorded his fifth career shutout vs. the Flyers, while Tony DeAngelo scored his first career goal against his hometown team. Owen Tippett was the only noticeable player in Orange & Black, as he continues the most consistent run of solid play of his NHL career, but it wasn’t enough as the Flyers fell with a whimper to the Isles. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the loss, talking Trevor Zegras, Emil Andrae, Matvei Michkov and much more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Do you believe in miracles?! WOOOO! The Philadelphia Flyers, coming off one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory, handed the Presidents Trophy-leading Colorado Avalanche their second home loss of 2025-26 on the strength of awesome games for Owen Tippett (3G, 1A) and Matvei Michkov (2G, 1A). Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the most unlikely win of the season, discussing Sam Ersson’s incredible first period, another game with too many penalties and the ridiculous nature of the Orange & Black. The Philadelphia Flyers led 3-0, but somehow found themselves in overtime against the Utah Mammoth. Bill, Charlie & Petey break down the loss, discussing the power play & penalty kill, the goaltending situation, and the race to lead the Flyers in scoring. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We’re opening up the MAILBAG on today’s show, discussing potential trade targets for Danny Briere’s Philadelphia Flyers, as the need for a 1C is at the top of many fans’ minds. Should they go the reclamation route with Elias Pettersson, reuniting him with Rick Tocchet, or perhaps pay a lot more for Robert Thomas from the Blues? Bill & Kelly also discuss the defense, what a future “skilled” 4th line could look like, and whether they believe the Orange & Black can still make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Philadelphia Flyers faced a big challenge on Monday night, needing to end a 6-game losing streak against a Golden Knights team that had won 7 straight. It was Travis Konecny who came up huge for Philly, converting two breakaways, one shorthanded, for the Flyers’ two goals. The even more unlikely performance came from Sam Ersson, who’d been even worse than his terrible numbers lately, who closed the door on all but one VGK chance. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the much-needed win, discussing the goaltending, special teams, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

The New York Rangers recently released an open letter to their fans declaring this season lost. Then they came into Philadelphia and blew out the Flyers. After Travis Konecny gave the Orange & Black the 1-0 lead, the Rangers scored three goals on their first three shots to chase Aleksei Kolosov before he could make a save, and proceeded to skate circles around the Flyers. Mika Zibanejad scored a hat trick before the game was half over, and Artemi Panarin is still sitting on 2 but will probably score his third after I finish writing this. Bill, Steve and Charlie break down the loss, including the brutal goalie situation, the continued struggles of the special teams, and what this 6-game losing streak means for the rest of the season. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Cam York and Travis Sanheim each took minor penalties before four minutes had been played. Sam Ersson couldn’t stop shots even when they hit him, and the penalty kill continued to be terrible in Thursday night’s loss to the Penguins. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, including Aleksei Kolosov relieving Sam Ersson after 22 minutes, the growing chemistry between Matvei Michkov and Denver Barkey, as well as Philly’s struggling offense and inability to finish chances. The Philadelphia Flyers went into Buffalo on Wednesday night looking to end a 3-game losing streak. Instead a total lack of discipline and the continued failure of the power play and penalty kill resulted in a lopsided loss to the Sabres, who have now won 14 of 16 to get themselves back into the Eastern Conference Stanley Cup Playoff race. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, including Vladar’s injury, Zegras’ slump, the terrible special teams, and much more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers have a busy schedule ahead of the Olympic break, with four games this week and 11 until the league pauses for the Winter Games. But there’s still plenty happening off the ice, with the possibility of Danny Briere trading Rasmus Ristolainen swirling, despite the Flyers making a playoff push. Charlie & Bill also discuss the embarrassing Philly power play, potential options to replace Sam Ersson as the backup goaltender, Matvei Michkov’s goal-scoring struggles, and more! Dan Vladar faired better than Sam Ersson did two nights ago, but only marginally, as the Philadelphia Flyers were beaten at home for the second straight game by the Tampa Bay Lightning. This game was certainly made more frustrating by the failure of Philly’s special teams, but even more so by how unevenly it was officiated. Not that the refs caused the loss, but it was still ridiculous. Bill, Kelly and Charlie break down the loss, including Trevor Zegras being held without a point for 3 straight games for the first time all season, and whether Rick Tocchet should’ve been more cautious with Vladar in the third period. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Even after firing Rocky Thompson, the Philadelphia Flyers' power play continues to be abysmal, ranking towards the very bottom of the NHL. How can the Flyers fix it? Should they make a trade or fire a coach? Bill Matz thinks it's simple: trade for New Jersey Devil Dougie Hamilton. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Well, the Philadelphia Flyers played the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night, and through 40 minutes it was kind of interesting. But the combination of a depleted offense, bad puck management, and Sam Ersson caught up to the Orange & Black, who got steamrolled in the third period, leading to a blowout loss. Join Bill Matz, Charlie O'Connor, Steve Jacot and the PHLY Flyers crew as they breakdown all the action from tonight's matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Philadelphia Flyers seemed to be in control of the game with a power play that became a 5v3 in the back half of the third period, but it was former Flyer Scott Laughton who tied the game short-handed, setting up a crazy overtime that ended with an Easton Cowan goal. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, discussing the power play woes, Matvei Michkov losing his scoring touch, and the emotional letdown after Tuesday’s win. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
We have reached the halfway point of the 2025-26 NHL season, with the Philadelphia Flyers closing the first half on a high note, a 5-2 victory over Cutter Gauthier’s Anaheim Ducks. On today’s show, Charlie & Bill dissect Trevor Zegras’ first 41 games in Orange & Black, and how complicated his contract extension negotiations with Danny Briere could be. Plus, we have to talk about this power play, a day after Philly went 1-for-8 with the man advantage, including a failed 5v3 and a failed 5-minute major. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Two first-period goals by former Anaheim Duck Trevor Zegras were the difference in what was an emotional and violent night in South Philly and the Flyers improve to 3-0 against Cutter Gauthier since he was traded away. Our very own Charlie O'Connor was on the scene in Voorhees, NJ to cover the Flyers' return to Philadelphia after their Disney On Ice road trip commenced with a 5-2 over McDavid's Edmonton Oilers, and before their big game Tuesday night vs Cutter Gauthier's Anaheim Ducks. Matvei Michkov missed practice for the Flyers today, with Rick Tocchet explaining he took a shot off the foot Saturday and reported discomfort. The Philadelphia Flyers will have representatives on three of the four teams vying for medals in tonight’s World Junior Championship action. Tournament standout Porter Martone, along with Jett Luchanko, will represent Canada against Heikki Ruohonen and Max Westergard’s Finland squad in the Bronze Medal game before Jack Berglund captains Sweden against Czechia in the Gold Medal game. Shane Vansaghi’s Team USA won’t be participating, but we’ll discuss him as well. Charlie & Bill will also take a look at the Flyers’ next month of games ahead of the Olympic break, and what they’ll need to do to stay in Stanley Cup Playoff contention before the 19-day pause in the schedule. We’ll also get into the Egor Zamula situation in Pittsburgh, mostly because it’s kind of funny. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers opened up a 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the first period, highlighted by Denver Barkey’s first career goal. But it’s never easy against Connor McDavid & Co. and the Best Player in the World extended his point streak to 15 games with his customary two points. But it was Dan Vladar and the Flyers defense that choked the Edmonton firepower enough to get out of Edmonton with a well-earned regulation win. Charlie & Bill break down the win, with a look at Matvei Michkov’s penalty taking, Owen Tippett’s playmaking, and much more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman reported earlier this week that the Flyers and Christian Dvorak are talking a contract extension, as the 29-year old center is having a career year with the Philadelphia Flyers and playing on the same line as Trevor Zegras. What could an extension look like for Dvorak? Would the Flyers be open to trading him? And are the Flyers prioritizing a contract extension for Zegras as well? Well, that game sucked. The Philadelphia Flyers just did not have it on New Years Eve, failing to generate any offense or get any saves in a loss to Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee and the Calgary Flames. Charlie & Bill ring in the new year breaking down a rough loss, while discussing a Matvei Michkov’s three “potential assists,” Jamie Drysdale’s power play struggles and taking PHLY Die Hards as call-in guests! The Philadelphia Flyers bounced back on Wednesday night, taking down Rick Tocchet’s former employer and earning Dan Vladar the his 14th win of the season, tying a career high. Matvei Michkov recorded his fourth multi-point game of the season and Carl Grundstrom extended his goal streak to four games en route to the victory. Charlie & Bill break down the win, including Travis Konency finding his scoring touch again, and Denver Barkey continuing his impressive run since being called up. The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t play a terrible game, although the second period wasn’t exactly inspiring, but Trevor Zegras, Travis Konecny and the Orange & Black offense couldn’t get anything going against Philipp Grubauer on Sunday night. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, as well as discuss Christian Dvorak’s potential contract extension, Egor Zamula wanting to terminate his contract, and Denver Barkey’s seemingly early call-up to the NHL. In his latest Diehard article for allphly.com, Charlie O’Connor spoke with Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Danny Briere on a wide range of topics, including Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov. The Philadelphia Flyers have 2 wins in 2 days, as goals by Travis Konecny and Noah Cates powered the Flyers to a win over the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center. Sam Ersson was solid as well, and a Carl Grundstrom empty net goal and assists from Zegras, Couturier, Konecny, and Drysdale sealed the victory. Charlie and Steve break down the win, the upcoming schedule, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. FINALLY! The Philadelphia Flyers’ long national nightmare is over, as the Orange and Black earned a regulation win for the first time since December 9. Nikita Grebenkin opened the scoring for the Flyers late in the second, and goals from Grundstrom, Dvorak, Tippett, and Michkov sealed the victory for the Flyguys. Steve, Kelly, and Charlie break down the Flyers’ last home game of 2025, their upcoming schedule, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What a game...of course Artemi Panarin opened up the scoring late in the first, but then rookie Denver Barkey scored 2 points in 2 shifts, giving Sam Ersson and the Flyers a much-needed 3-1 lead. However, the Orange and Black blew the lead once again, and couldn't convert on two power plays in overtime. Panarin's 2 goals, Flyers' killer Mika Zibanejad's lone goal, and a shutout in the shootout sealed the New York Rangers' victory. Steve and Petey break down the loss, Trevor Zegras' point streak, the power play, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We’re wrapping up the work week with a mailbag! We have Philadelphia Flyers questions ranging from Danny Briere’s plans this season and this summer, to looking back at Steve Mason’s tenure, and whether he could’ve beat the Rangers in 2014 if fully healthy. Bill & Steve discuss the past, present and future of the Flyers, as well as discuss Charlie’s interview with Philly’s GM. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Despite a highlight reel assist by Trevor Zegras and a 2-1 lead with under five minutes remaining in the second period, the Philadelphia Flyers choked away a game after dominating most of the first 30 minutes. Sam Ersson wasn’t great, but this one is on the offense, which was unable to beat Sam Ersson with a plethora of shots and chances before the Sabres’ skaters woke up. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the loss, the Flyers’ fourth in the last five games. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. After thinking rehab would get the job done in 2-3 months, it was announced today that Tyson Foerster is out five months as he’s now recovering from surgery on his injured arm. Bill, Kelly, and a checking-in-from the road Charlie discuss how the Philadelphia Flyers should go about replacing Foerster now that the duration is concrete. Carl Grundstrom needed very little time to take advantage of his promotion into the top-9, scoring his third goal in five games since his recall. Trevor Zegras scored on a 2-on-1 and Bobby Brink netted a goal off of a Matvei Michkov steal behind the net to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the win, discussing Rasmus Ristolainen’s return, Dan Vladar’s continued strong play, and much more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It happened! After months of rumors, the Vancouver Canucks sent star defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round pick. After the Flyers reportedly inquired about the star, why couldn't Danny Briere and company make the deal? Would it have taken Porter Martone or Matvei Michkov to get it done? Did drafting Jett Luchanko prevent the Flyers from making the trade? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers have lost 3 consecutive games for the first time this season, albeit they’ve earned a point in each. Trevor Zegras and Dan Vladar starred in a comeback for the Flyers, but Zegras couldn’t convert his shootout attempt, and Vladar surrendered the only goal of the skills competition, allowing the Canes to escape with another win over the Flyers, their 8th straight. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, discussing some of Rick Tocchet’s coaching decisions, Nikita Grebenkin’s roster spot, Matvei Michkov’s linemates, and more! The Philadelphia Flyers have not beaten the Carolina Hurricanes in South Philly since March 5, 2020, having dropped eight straight to Rod Brind’Amour’s squad heading into this game. Trevor Zegras and his teammates seemed determined to break that streak in the first, opening up a two goal lead through 20 minutes. But a dominant second allowed the Canes to tie it. The teams traded goals in the third and for the 12th time this season we got OT! Thanks to Sam Ersson, Philly survived the 3v3 and sent it to a shootout, aka the Trevor Zegras show. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the loss, and what consecutive L’s mean as a string of road games approach. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers played perfectly even with the Stanley Cup-contending Vegas Golden Knights through 60 minutes, going to OT tied at 2 and with matching shot totals. But a Travis Konecny giveaway in front of Dan Vladar proved fatal in the 3v3, allowing Jack Eichel and Mark Stone to connect for the winner. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, including solid performances from Trevor Zegras, Travis Sanheim, and Vladar. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We’ve got a jam-packed show today, as suddenly the national hockey media can’t stop talking about the Philadelphia Flyers. Elliotte Friedman is talking Owen Tippett, Paul Bisonette is talking Matvei Michkov, and we’re here to break down all the rumors, likely and not-so-much. Charlie & Bill also discuss whether the NHL/Flyers will ever be considered alongside the “Major Sports,” as well as Dan Vladar’s workload, Quinn Hughes and more! The Philadelphia Flyers dominated most of the first two periods against Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks, continuing their streak of strong play following a loss. But a hesitant third period gave San Jose life, but Dan Vladar was up to the task once again, notching his 11th win in 17 starts this season. Charlie, Kelly & Bill break down the win, sharing their thoughts on the fourth line’s big night, Vladar’s heroics, the Matvei Michkov of it all, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The NHL-best Colorado Avalanche got the best of Sam Ersson, as goals from Brent Burns, Brock Nelson, and Valeri Nichuskin secured the victory for the Avs over the Philadelphia Flyers. Sean Couturier and Nick Seeler both had milestones for the Orange and Black, playing in their 900th and 400th career games respectively, and Sean Couturier did open the scoring for the game early in the 1st. Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks has been subject to lots of trade rumors with reports Hughes may not sign a long-term extension with the team after his contract expires in 2027. With his connection to Philadelphia Flyers' head coach Rick Tocchet, and relationships with Trevor Zegras and Cam York, could Danny Briere and the Orange and Black trade for the talented defensemen? In the aftermath of a big 5-2 Flyers victory over the Buffalo Sabres, Charlie and Steve turn their attention to the three Russians on the team: Matvei Michkov, Egor Zamula, and Nikita Grebenkin. One appears to be finding his form, one is struggling to regain his, and the other is getting a big opportunity to show he can stick in a larger role. Can Michkov keep it up? Where does Zamula fit? Is Grebenkin poised to breakout now that he’s off the 4th line? The PHLY Flyers crew breaks it all down. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers have done it again, not only rebounding from a rough loss, but scoring a bunch of goals in quick succession, netting three goals in 59 seconds after falling behind 1-0 in the first period and take ahold of the game. Matvei Michkov, Bobby Brink, Travis Konecny and a bunch of others put up multi-point nights, while Trevor Zegras scored and survived a Rasmus Dahlin major-worthy boarding. The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a disappointing outing against the Pittsburgh Penguins, following a successful 4-game road trip. So we’ve got a lot to talk about as the calendar flips to December and the FlyGuys still find themselves very much in Stanley Cup Playoff contention. Tyson Foerster’s injury in the Pens game on Monday night is a major concern, and how the organization addresses the roster spot, perhaps by calling up Alex Bump from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, is a major point of concern for fans. As is the recent rumors surrounding Danny Briere’s pursuit of players from Rick Tocchet’s former team, the Vancouver Canucks. Charlie & Bill address all this and more, plus solicit donations from the audience, on this episode! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Sidney Crosby opened the scoring in this game, and added a second goal in the second period, to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. Tyson Foerster scored a 5-on-3 power play goal and left with an upper-body injury on a one-timer on the same power play to add injury to insult. Charlie, Bill & Steve break down the loss, including the struggling penalty kill, Dan Vladar’s performance, what the TyFo injury could mean, and much more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It wasn’t easy, and the Philadelphia Flyers nearly blew another 3-goal lead, but Dan Vladar held on to preserve Philly’s lead, built by goals from Owen Tippett, Matvei Michkov and Travis Konecny, to beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3 and hand NJ their first regulation loss at home this season. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, discussing Trevor Zegras’ up-and-down game, Michkov & TK heating up, Tippett’s 100th career goal, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers scored first for the first time in ten games, and opened up a 3-0 lead by the time 22 minutes had elapsed, on goals from Tyson Foerster, Sean Couturier and Trevor Zegras. But in true Flyers/Islanders fashion, the Isles scored three consecutive in the second period to tie the game. So after tying their season-long streak of three straight games ending in regulation, the Flyers once again went to overtime. Of course, 65 minutes wasn’t enough and we got to a shootout where Zegras, Ersson and TK team up to win it for Philly. Charlie & Bill break down the win, discussing Michkov, Foerster, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
What a night! After falling behind 2-0 to the Florida Panthers, it was a huge second period for Emil Andrae and the late heroics of Tyson Foerster that lift the Philadelphia Flyers over the Cats, 4-2 in Sunrise. The Flyers' 2024 13th overall draft pick has been traded from the Guelph Storm to the top team in the Brantford Bulldogs. What does this mean for the Flyers and their top center prospect? This was as low-event as a game could be in terms of highlights. Nic Deslauriers’ first period fight was the only thing that registered as a Philadelphia “highlight” in the opening 40 minutes. Sam Ersson battled through a sleepy game with a solid-enough outing against the Lightning, but with no help from Trevor Zegras, Matvei Michkov or Tyson Foerster, this was one of those games that brings Orange & Black expectations down to earth. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, and Rick Tocchet’s options to try to get this team scoring more consistently. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. WHAT A NIGHT IN SOUTH PHILLY! After allowing the first goal for the seventh straight game the Philadelphia Flyers caught fire, scoring four goals in the first period, including 3 in 26 seconds and 2 by Tyson Foerster within 17 seconds to open up a big lead. From there, Dan Vladar was solid, Bobby Brink and Trevor Zegras added some insurance goals, and the Flyers put a big number up on one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, discussing TyFo’s big night, Matvei Michkov timing his break perfectly to score in his 100th career NHL game and NOT GOING TO OT! With the Maple Leafs' shaky start, should Danny Briere and the Flyers keep or trade their top-10 protected 2027 1st round pick from the Scott Laughton trade? Should the Flyers' fourth line be more skill-based? What's the protocol if you miss a podcast – do you play it on 2x speed or skip it entirely? Did you think it was possible for a Philadelphia Flyers game to end in regulation? LOL. Of course the Flyers went to overtime for the 4th time in 5 games and 9th time in 19 overall. Once again, the Orange & Black started slow, falling behind 2-0 in the first. Fortunately, Dan Vladar was excellent, allowing the comeback. Rodrigo Abols and Tyson Foerster scored to tie the game at two and Travis Sanheim scored the winner to send the Philly faithful home happy! Bill, Steve & Charlie break down another extended edition of Flyers/Blues, discussing Vladar, Owen Tippett, Travis Konecny, Trevor Zegras and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It has been a little while since our last mailbag episode, and with the full gang in studio today, we’re answering YOUR QUESTIONS! Many of them dealt with the same subject- which wingers (Owen Tippett, Porter Martone, Bobby Brink, Travis Konecny, etc) should be traded to either make room for Alex Bump, Denver Barkey and the next wave of LWs & RWs, or to add the help they need at both center and defense. Other questions ask for updates on Jett Luchanko, Jack Nesbitt and other Flyers prospects, while others are just funny. Plus, a conversation on Sam Ersson from an article Charlie has written. When healthy, Tyson Foerster, Bobby Brink and Noah Cates have basically been inseparable as a line for the better part of a calendar year. And for good reason- they’ve been amongst the Flyers’ most consistent producers from when John Tortorella put them together through the beginning of Rick Tocchet’s tenure. Now slumping, however, Charlie & Bill discuss whether it is time to break the trio up, and look for one or more of them to play alongside other teammates. Is Foerster the perfect complement to Matvei Michkov? Could Brink get more offensive opportunities with Travis Konecny? Plus, we talk Adam Ginning’s conditioning stint with the Phantoms, Alex Bump’s likelihood to get promoted to the Philadelphia Flyers, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. PHLY Flyers' Charlie O'Connor was on the scene in Voorhees, NJ to report on the latest at Flyers practice after their back-to-back games versus the Dallas Stars and Blues this weekend. Rasmus Ristolainen and Oliver Bonk were spotted on the ice today at the Flyers Training Facility for a chippy practice, and Rick Tocchet comments on the battles he saw from the team today coming off their underwhelming defeat to Dallas. The Philadelphia Flyers had a split weekend, putting on one hell of a show in their shootout win over the St. Louis Blues, and then looking completely out-classed in their loss to the Dallas Stars. Coming out of the 2-game trip, the Flyers won’t play again until Thursday, meaning we’ll have time to get into some odds and ends with this team, starting with a minor (?) trade Danny Briere made with the Ottawa Senators to swap Dennis Gilbert for an unsigned RFA Maxence Guenette. Charlie & Bill will also discuss Christian Dvorak, and his linemates Owen Tippett and Trevor Zegras, the goalie situation, and, of course, Matvei Michkov. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers were flat-out bad on Saturday night. There was a stark difference between the still young and rebuilding Flyers and the Cup-contending Dallas Stars, and the travel/schedule certainly didn’t help either. But regardless, Philly was never in this game. Join Bill Matz and Charlie O'Connor, as the PHLY Flyers crew breaks down all the action from tonight's matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Dallas Stars. Bill and Charlie break down the goalie matchup between Dan Vlad and Jake Oettinger, give their 3 stars of the game, and breakdown everything that happened on the ice tonight in Dallas. That was wild! The Philadelphia Flyers erased a pair of 2-goal deficits to force yet another game to overtime, and then, following a failed OT penalty shot for Trevor Zegras, took the shootout, with Zegras being the lone scorer. Charlie & Bill break down the ridiculous Flyers win, discussing the huge night for Zegras, Owen Tippett, Christian Dvorak, Emil Andrae, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers were thoroughly outclassed for much of the first two periods of the game, but Dan Vladar continuing his early-season Vezina chase, and Matvei Michkov scoring on the power play gave the Orange & Black a chance and it seemed like Travis Konecny won it but an offside review took away the winner and Edmonton netted the winner in OT. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, Michkov’s resurgence, Vladar’s hard luck loss and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. PHLY Flyers' Charlie O'Connor was at the Flyers' Training Facility in Voorhees, NJ to report on the latest news surrounding the Orange and Black before their matchup versus the Edmonton Oilers. Tyson Foerster skated without a non-contact jersey for the first time since being placed on injured reserve, and Rick Tocchet was optimistic he could return to the lineup shortly. Meanwhile, some new lines were ran in practice today, with Captain Sean Couturier on the 1st line with Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Philadelphia Flyers took a chance on trading for Trevor Zegras, and thus far it has paid off. So well, in fact that now the discussion surrounding Zegras is how soon Danny Briere can get him signed to a long-term contract. Charlie & Bill discuss the Zegras contract situation, comparables and scenarios that the Flyers are weighing ahead of finalizing an extension. Plus, MORE on the Matvei Michkov/Sean Couturier “controversy” (we’re just wrapping it up, we swear), the 4th line’s scoring woes, Owen Tippett’s slump, and more! All the talk on social media this weekend was about the perceived criticism by Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier directed towards Matvei Michkov in Saturday’s postgame scrum. Coots mentioned Michkov “playing the right way” and it benefitting the team, seemingly complimenting the 20-year-old sophomore, but many Flyers fans took it as a shot at the franchise’s future cornerstone. Charlie & Bill break down the controversy, playing clips from Coots, Michkov and head coach Rick Tocchet, and discuss the dynamics of the Philly locker room. Depending on how long all that takes we may also get into the goaltending, Trevor Zegras, Emil Andrae, and who knows what else. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. After another slow start for the Philadelphia Flyers that saw the home team fall down 2-0, the Orange & Black fought back to take complete control of the second half of the game, tying it on goals from Matvei Michkov and Jamie Drysdale to force overtime, while allowing only one shot on goal for the final 28 minutes of regulation. It was an optional practice today at Voorhees for the Philadelphia Flyers, and PHLY Sports' very own Charlie O'Connor was on the scene to report on the latest. The puck dropped on the NHL season on October 7th. One month later, the Philadelphia Flyers are in an Eastern Conference playoff spot! Dan Vladar has been mostly very good, Trevor Zegras looks like a star, Cam York, Noah Cates, Bobby Brink and Tyson Foerster (prior to the injury) all look like they’re taking steps in their careers, and pretty much all is well for Rick Tocchet’s squad. Except for the Matvei Michkov of it all. Philly’s sophomore winger is off to a disappointing start. Today, Charlie & Bill discuss how the Flyers are adapting to Rick Tocchet’s style, how they can generate more shots on goal, the successes of Danny Briere’s summer moves, and what we’ve seen from Michkov, positive and negative. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The game started out as a shooting gallery in Philadelphia’s end, with only Dan Vladar seemingly awake for the first 15 minutes or so of the first period. Vladar surrendered one that ping-ponged off 2 men in front, but was the sole reason the Flyers were in the game. From there, Matvei Michkov and Noah Cates tallied goals and the Flyers earned a hard-fought victory. Charlie & Bill break down the win, discussing the hopeful end of Michkov’s slump, Cam York’s solid start to the year, Rick Tocchet’s line-juggling, and more! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. No matter the combination, the Flyers 4th line has NOT generated any offense this season so far. Should the Danny Briere and the Orange and Black call up a prospect from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to try and spark some offense on the struggling line? Charlie and Bill of the PHLY Flyers Podcast discuss some possibilities, including Alex Bump, Karsen Dorwart, Tucker Robertson, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Trevor Zegras has been a revelation to start his first season in Philadelphia, leading the team in assists, points and power play points through the team’s first 13 games. The Flyers power play, thanks largely to the addition of Zegras, is over 20% and looks greatly improved from the group that has run under 14% in the previous 4 seasons. Charlie, Kelly & Bill look at the best and worst of the first month on the Flyers season, highlighting Zegras, PP success, Matvei Michkov, Dan Vladar and Noah Cates. Plus… Cutter Gauthier has scored his first career hat trick and that upsets us. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What a wild freakin’ game. The Philadelphia Flyers opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period, getting 2 points from Bobby Brink, Trevor Zegras and Cam York. And then they gave up 4 in the second, only for Nikita Grebenkin to tie the game and force overtime in the 3rd. The Flyers won in a shootout thanks to Dan Vladar and the magic of Zegras, and that was ridiculous. Bill & Charlie break down the win, Zegras’ big night, Philly’s power play, and a second straight shaky game for Vladar. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
What a slog of a game. After a 3-shot first period for the Philadelphia Flyers, things didn’t get much better over the following 40 minutes, and the Flyers dropped a home game to the NHL’s last place Calgary Flames. Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice for the Flames, and Dustin Wolf was up to the task on the few occasions the Flyers got anything through to him, as Matvei Michkov, Owen Tippett and basically every other forward was invisible for pretty much the entire game. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the loss and discuss what Rick Tocchet can do to jumpstart this team’s scoring. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Well, things were going so well, it was bound to come back around. The Maple Leafs came into Philadelphia while most of Toronto is watching Game 7 of the World Series and out-classed the Philadelphia Flyers. Auston Matthews, Easton Cowan and Nicholas Robertson all scored on absolute seeds, and Dan Vladar was relieved by Aleksei Kolosov after surrendering 4 goals. Bill, Petey & Charlie break down the loss, discussing the goalie decision, Trevor Zegras’ faceoff woes, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Matvei Michkov & Trevor Zegras turned in their best performances of the young season on Thursday night, combining for 2 goals and 3 assists in a game that saw Sean Couturier leave with what may be an arm injury after the first period. In what has become a habit for the new Flyers goaltender, Dan Vladar was very strong once again, especially through the first 30 minutes when the Flyers didn’t seem to have the jump they’ve had recently. Bill, Steve & Charlie break down the win, discussing the big nights for Zegras and Michkov, Jamie Drysdale picking up his first goal of the game, and what the Samu Tuomaala trade could mean for Emil Andrae’s NHL status. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
PHLY Sports' Charlie O'Connor was on the scene in Voorhees, NJ for Flyers' practice after their big, chaotic shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Trevor Zegras spoke to the media after practice today regarding the huge melee at the end of overtime and his misconduct penalty forcing him out of the shootout. New head coach Rick Tocchet also spoke on Zegras' actions and what he's seeing in the new Flyer. Two surprising injury updates are also discussed regarding Christian Dvorak and Sam Ersson. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Philadelphia Flyers mostly outplayed the Pittsburgh Penguins, who’d won 7 of their first 10 entering tonight. Bobby Brink stood out with a multi-point night, as did the team’s speed and possession overall. Unfortunately, Sidney Crosby got a Crosby Bounce in the third to tie the game and we got sent to OT because of a strong effort from Artus Silovs, and some typical Crosby nonsense. Bill, Steve & Charlie discuss the game, Sam Ersson’s season, Trevor Zegras’ hot streak, and some really questionable officiating. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Danny Briere and the Philadelphia Flyers front office has made the decision to send Jett Luchanko, the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, back to the OHL to play for the Guelph Storm (and potentially Team Canada in the World Junior Championship), rather than remain a fixture on the 4th line in Philly. Charlie & Bill discuss the decision, as well as Jamie Drysdale & Trevor Zegras’ success through the first 8 games. Plus, updates on injuries to defensemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Oliver Bonk. The Philadelphia Flyers overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Islanders 4-3 in a shootout. The Philadelphia Flyers came out on fire early in the first period, putting a ton of pressure on the Ottawa Senators in the opening minutes, including Tyson Foerster beating Linus Ullmark 29 seconds after puck drop to put the Flyguys up 1-0. But the Sens were able to turn momentum after the Flyers’ fast start and Olle Lycksell scoring against his former employer 3 minutes into the second was enough to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead through 40, despite Dan Vladar’s best efforts. The Flyers had a chance early and late in this game, but just couldn’t muster enough quality scoring chances to support another strong game from Vladar. Charlie & Bill break down the loss, discussing the Flyers goaltending, penchant for taking penalties, and all of Matvei Michkov’s scoring chances. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere opened up some space under the salary cap on Sunday, trading the long-injured Ryan Ellis’ contract to the San Jose Sharks for Carl Grundstrom & Artem Guryev.
